So, assume you are Norwood. Assume you decide the occasional naught chants from the student section are embarrassing to the school and you need to stop it.

What the heck do you do? What can you do?

Have security kick out anyone they see doing the chant. Obviously each person can only grab 2 or 3 people at a time, but the risk of getting caught would get most everyone to shut up. Or at least quiet it enough to not be very clear. Add in some extra security guys for good measure.

I for one don't think that should be done, but that is the way it would be silenced quickly.

I DO think that the barnyard should encourage more creative cheers however. You'd never see the fans at Duke come up with such a horrible chant.

Naught is zero. I assume you mean naughtY. As such...

If you actually want to stop it, you put a whole bunch of ushers in the student section, inform the SS that anyone who takes the lord's name in vain will be removed from the game, wait until the SS stops looking at you incredulously and stops jeering you, then enforce.

throw em out, do the rest of the fans and children need to hear screamed obscenities ...

It's simple. You infiltrate the SS with CIA and when naughtY happens, the CIA simply stuns the offender/offenders and then props up the offender against the person next to them as if he/she all of a sudden fell asleep. Over a short period of time everyone in the SS would become paranoid about falling asleep and missing the game that the naughtY would stop. IMO

I hate it when student sections act like students....

They've got 166 hours the whole rest of the week they can use to talk like sailors. All we ask is 2 hours a week to pretend they're civilized people.

So do the parents of children spending hundreds of dollars to take their families to the game.

Then those parents better not take the kids shopping in a Mall of any kind, because the language there is worse on a consistent basis, where ever you go. I am sure the youngsters hearing chants like that at a College game will be traumatized for life.

Definitely agree with you!

Wow. Dropped the "y" twice.

I've got 3 tickets. I either bring friends or my kids to every game. Kids are 6, 8, 10 and 10. I don't care if my kids hear it. They usually can't understand it anyway.

I'm more concerned about how it makes us look...especially on TV.

Don't forget the chant of (something like) "Beat 'em up, beat 'em up, shove it up their a**hole" (or something like that).

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there, Doctor. The student section at gopher football and basketball games has the most bad language of any pro-sporting event or public venue I've been to (besides maybe a bar or the cheap seats at the Vikes game). People are free to use whatever words they want, but when they began to chant them loud enough for millions of people to hear on TV, well, that affects the Universities image. Also, if the student section gets a reputation for continually behaving like this. It will affect the ticket sales among families which will hurt us as we don't have a fan base full of die hards.

While I do think that the students should be able to do whatever they please, I would prefer they be a little more creative.

The F You Izzo kind of stuff is weak. Come up with something funny and creative. Anyone can just swear. I think it is classless to encourage that kind of stuff. I am all for talking some smack, just get a little creative with it, and keep it PG 13 or so...

Lol, it's college and college sports....Kids will be kids. I graduated from SCSU a year ago and these chants don't even compare to what I heard or witnessed at the hockey games there...

Kill, rape, pillage, burn, kill, rape, pillage, burn, eat babies ... Spartan babies!

That one?

I think it's fine to be disrespectful and mocking to the other team, but BE CREATIVE. The stupid, lazy F%$@ so and so is just boring and makes us look stupid.

I could list multiple creative chants others have used, but most people know them. We'd just rather not be creative anymore in our student section. That said, this is a minor complaint IMO. Showing up and being loud is number 1.

Funny - but may open the U to lawsuits.

Tubby writes another letter appealing to the students to properly represent the U. In the letter, Tubby explains that the U will be videotaping the crowd to ensure proper behavior. Any fans behaving improperly will face sanctions including expulsion, loss of future tickets, blah, blah, blah (not sure what all they can do to the students).

OK, I went thru the video several times. The problem is this...In large numbers of people yelling very loud, an S sounds like an F.

The chant was harmless, the SS was yelling "Suck You IZZO!"

Ah the yearly...er... weekly thread on the student section shouting obscenities. Nothing is going to change. Stop whining. New blood learns from old blood and never can take off with new ideas because they cant get it heard. From what ive heard any and all creativity has been essentially nixed by security anyway.

Good god, this is literally the worst idea of all time. Honestly the septogenarians can go take a hike if they're offended by some F-bombs. And I'm not going to use Duke fans as a barometer for anything; that's just ludicrous.

If you're going to use big words, learn how to spell them. Now please, go back to your man cave. The OP asked how to stop it. That's the quickest way.

Agree - the F-bomb chants need to go. An occasional bulls*** when warranted happens in most college arenas and is just fine.

I think the students should go f**k themselves!! :)

(The bigger deal you make of it the more they are going to do it.)

I don't disagree that the chant is weak and should go, but you must not get out to other games/venues very often. Gopher games are extremely tame compared to other places I've been to.

Like someone mentioned earlier kids will be kids. Gotta just be happy that we had a good turn out especially being that it was winter break for them it's doubtful they will have chants like this every game . Gotta look at the positive !
