Nate Mason Commits to Gophers

You're absolutely wrong. Rankings are highly correlated with college production. Higher rated prospects generally do better than lower rated prospects. Lower ranked players can certainly have better careers than higher ranked players, but that's not generally the case. Thus, I would rather have a a four or five star player than a three star player in almost all circumstances.

Of course, I would rather have a 4/5 star over a 3 star any day of the week, but what I'm trying to convey (not sure I did correctly in my original post) is that just because he isn't 4/5 star doesn't mean he can't be a program changer. That's all.

Can't argue with that.

Did some quick digging, mostly checking out how Nate played in the EYBL against top competition. This is what I found:
As most of you probably know he played for the CP3 All-Stars who had Theo Pinson (UNC - #13 ESPN), LJ Peak (Georgetown - #58 ESPN), Gary Clark (Cincinnati 4*) and Shelton Mitchell (Wake Forest 4*)
Stats:
12.1 PPG - 3rd behind Pinson/Clark (13 PPG)
3 APG - 2nd behind Mitchell (3.5 APG)
2.7 A/T Ratio - By far the best on the team
46 FG% / 35 3P%
Not saying he should or shouldn't be a "3*" recruit but for him to put up those kind of numbers on a team that went 15-3 in the EYBL and finished 2nd at the Peach Jam, I've come away impressed.

Here's a pretty cool video that follows the teams at the Peach Jam (including Howard Pulley) and has some Nate Mason highlights at the end from the championship game. Also gives you an idea of the talent on the EYBL circuit
