Mike Sanford Fired

Zero percent

we didn’t fire fleck
I genuinely don‘t think fleck would be against letting Tanner call his own audibles. Fleck has for the most part let the coordinators do their thing. This was Sanfords system

Good job Coach, I respect you for finally realizing and doing what's right for the program.

We've discussed it recently. It's how Guety replaced Holtz, and it was a disasterous move.
Oh how I remember that now. Good pick-up. Things slide off my ever-smoothening brain more often these days.

I wonder if Bobby Ross ever sent Ray Hitchcock a thank-you note for running him out of town.

I’m good with our going in a different direction from Sanford as OC. The change will be good; should add some creativity and new dimensions to our offense. But Sanford was “not extended” in the face of his contract expiring. That isn’t like firing a guy who still has significant time on his contract, aka Robb Smith. Sanford will land somewhere decent, maybe utilizing his skills as an offensive analyst rather than a play caller.

This is great news! Tanner seemed totally off at times this year which caused me to feel there was something going on behind the scenes and I suspect that was something to do with Sanford.

Wooooohooooooo!!!

Splitting hairs.

Something clearly changed in our offense after the Illinois game. Whether it was Simon taking the reigns or some other shift the offense just looked different. Not so much in the plays being called but in the way we would line up for the plays. Morgan wasn't sprinting around up to the last second or making multiple sideline checks. We got into more of a one check and go style, much more similar to what we were doing back in 2019.

The real question is, was the toss play Simon or Sanford? That was a heck of a wrinkle that we put in for the Iowa game and it caught them off guard. Has stayed part of the offense since that game too along with BSF becoming more of a focal point.

If Simon gets the job that will tell me the change happened in season and just wasn't announced. Will be interesting to see if they stay internal or go outside for the next OC.

My perspective.
Lol

so you’re going to answer a fact question of who called the plays with your opinion about what the fact is?

you may well be right but Lol

CLEARLY, this happened after the Illinois game.

Morgan 93 rating.

Then all of a sudden, nice jump up during Iowa and progressively better onward?? We all know what happened: Simon started calling the plays.
He said they'd be looking at everything. This is everything.

Spoiler alert - it was Sanford
I distinctly remember some folks on Reddit warning that they felt Sanford “ruined” some opportunities with good a good QB on another team…

That has been echoing in my head for a while.

Right?

Remember during the Iowa game when we hit that nice screen and we're all like "where TF did that come from???"

Simon
There was a point in the Wisconsin game where I thought, THIS would be the time for a screen, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don’t NOT want him to be OC

I am predicting he won’t be the OC

If I had my choice we would run an entirely different system. But that’s not happening under fleck. So we aren’t getting anyone I want.
They have recruited for 5 years to the system, why would you change, unless you want to be the second coming of Tim Brewster. It doesn't need to be overhauled, just need to utilize the plays and players in the right way.

What are the chances we find an OC that doesn't rely on standing with your hands out looking at the sideline because QB can't call his own audibles?
Apparently you don’t understand. It has almost nothing to do with “audibles”. It’s Fleck’s way of slowing the game down. 80-90% of the time it’s a decoy. You’d think after 5 years you’d get it.

Patterson is very creative, I think. His team, albeit lower level, was an offensive production demon. We might look outside, but I think a Simon + Patterson combo would move bring us a very good offense. And both have several years experience now dealing with B1G defenses.
It's been a crime having that much coaching talent sitting behind an under-performing Johnny come lately. Thank goodness neither of them bolted.

Late to the party but was thrilled when I heard this! MN sports seriously can’t quit winning!!
(Vikings, don’t care they’re stale and irrelevant as long as Cousins is qb).

Just call it a hunch

The lack of any kind of screen when it was needed nearly killed me earlier in the season.

Isn't that how you'd almost always answer those kind of questions?

Like if I asked "who is the fastest guy on the team?", you'd reply with your opinion, right?

The part of the recent offense I found refreshing was no booing of the play calls. That alone was worth the price of a ticket.

I was a run-and-shoot myself, my EA sports team broke several records lol

Sanford was the OC at Utah State Jordan Love's junior year and Love's stats dropped dramatically from his sophomore to junior seasons.

So, if it is going to be an internal promotion …. what are they waiting for to make the announcement?

Simon/Rossi getting offers to go elsewhere?

Fleck on the phone with his agent and Notre Dame right now?

Targeting outside candidates?
