Max

It's really obvious, Max is the current backup to JJ. You seem to think that is still in question?
Bold: that was never in question, and was not the point I was making. Unless you bring something new to the table, I don't think there's anything further for us to discuss.

Both Darrisaw and Jackson were DNP for Wed and Thur. Today will be huge.

Having Skule be your LT is not what you want for Max's first start. Better pray the gameplan is to hand the ball off and do a bunch of quick passes.

I haven’t watched every Viking game this year but are JJs woes primarily:

1) quick pressure ie blocking issues
2) slow developing play design
3) slow processing at QB position
4) innate poor accuracy
5) careless throws
6) opponent greatness
7) due to being 22 yrs old
8) injury-related
9) related to metrodome construction on Indian burial grounds

1,3-5, and 7

Yes.

Well, the point is:

Having Skule be your LT is not what you want for Max's first start.

Probably not the ideal scenario for his first start (on the road with a patchwork O-Line) but as an undrafted guy all you can do is hope for an opportunity and then go out and make the most of it if/when it happens.

Hopefully Max goes out there and kills it on Sunday. He showed a real ability to read things quickly and make good decisions at the college level. If he can do that he has some true weapons to work with in guys like Jefferson and Addison.

Great chance for him to showcase his abilities to the league which may help lead to future opportunities if things don't work out with the Vikings.

I trust KOC on QBs evaluation.

If he really thought Brosmer was the next Romo, he would've been playing Brosmer already this year.
I do as well. I still do. The odds of him becoming successful like Romo are slim and none. So I'm not going to put any money on that. (As a Gopher homer, I'd love nothing more than that.) My ideal scenario is Max becoming the reliable backup while JJ is turning things around and becomes what we all expect him to be. I still believe in JJ too. KOC's track record speaks for itself. Some consideration to be had is JJ has missed more than an entire season due to injury and he's one of the youngest quarterbacks in the league, if not thee youngest. Its somewhat uncommon for rookie quarterbacks to have the type of success we were aiming at. Not to mention, letting Sam go, essentially saying the keys are yours, puts more pressure on him.

Every QB under KOC has moved the Viking offense at an average or much better pace. Luminaries such as Joshua Dobbs, Jaren Hall, Nick Mullens. Kirk Cousins looked immediately washed in Atlanta after he left. Even Carson Wentz put up nice passing totals this year.

McCarthy is the problem. He played a whole career to this point on easy mode and can’t hack the NFL.

Max has a very tough draw for Start 1 but if he gets a couple more games after that at US Bank vs bad pass defenses he takes the job and runs with it for years.

Watching the Vikings the last handful of years I’d argue the receivers made things easy for Cousins et al. Always running open and/or catch everything. Talent, coaching, combo. The contrast to the Gopher receivers…well, won’t say. What’s his catchable throw rate?

I think McCarthy will turn out to be a decent professional quarterback. From watching him, I think his biggest problem now is that he's too confident in his abilities and as a result is making a ton of bad decisions. He has to play within the game at this point until he has the experience to push things up.

It is too soon to give up on JJ but he has also been historically bad in his brief time as an NFL starter.

Vikings will have a big decision to make in the off season. If they are going to role with JJ they will have to believe that he can improve enough in the off season to be much more effective in 2026.

Here's hoping Max goes out there and does so well on Sunday that the Vikings have even more things to consider.

Sure it was by your own words. Ever since Wentz went down for the season you've stated Max wasn't really the backup and would never start if JJ went down again.

Where are you getting that? I never said anything of the such. It's possible you misread or misinterpreted the point I was actually making.

Have to disagree with 7. If that's the case then our guy Max should have been starting in the first place.

Tark started ten games when he was 21. You ever heard of him?

You are a good guy Word but I get tired of the too young BS.
Just saying it's A factor, not the only factor. Exacerbated by the fact he didn't throw much in college and when he did, he knew which plays the defense was running. So it's not just age, but inexperience.

In the Vikings thread, where you also post complete nonsense. These were in response to this post:

I don't think there's any fear to put Brosmer in there. And they need to know if he can be QB2 going forward for 2026 and 2027. A guy with a handful of career starts who's been on the team for 2 weeks doesn't give you a better chance to win just because he's a "veteran" IMO.

This is a wild take.

I get that you're being a Gopher homer on a Gopher site, which is not only allowed but encouraged.

But it's not going to be something taken as real, anywhere else in the country. He's an undrafted rookie.
If JJM goes out for the season vs Balt, yes Max finishes the game. But then you seriously consider Wolford and you also look at who is sitting around.

Looking at SEA's defensive stats when they play at home, factored in with the current status of our OL, and I almost feel obligated to create a pre-emptive Go Fund Me account for Max.

I have that nervous excitement to see what the kid can do. My expectations are low but Gopher aspirations are high. Let it fly, kid.
