Marcus tweet on Coleman's upcoming visit to Iowa St: "Uh-Oh"

I gave you several EG's of such programs in the Big 10.

Tubby and the Gophers play up-tempo, too. Other recruiters whisper otherwise in recruits' ears.

Oh, do they? Hmm . . .

You both suck at making points. Minnesota is the 4th fastest in a historically slow conference. Prior to the loss of Nolen, Gophers played a much more uptempo game on both sides of the ball. With the right personal, Tubby wants to run.

His Kentucky teams weren't particularly up-tempo either.

FOT can you provide statistical proof of your argument otherwise point goes to Plinnius

Sure. Each of those 5 schools signs recruits who like to play "up tempo" basketball, too. The best recruits ALL want to play that way.

You'll find each has a good "smattering" of Top 100 recruits http://www.rscihoops.com/ and RSCI Winners recruiting classes.

What recruit WANTS to play slow-it-down, walk-it-up basketball? Never heard ANY recuit say that.

Actually, that's false. Kentucky and Florida were 1-2 in offense over the 1998-2007 timeframe.

Some teams more so than others, but both teams were SEC leaders in offense those 10 years.

His teams at Tulsa ran. His Georgia teams did, too. Most of his UK teams did (but not all).

His Gopher teams have been a mixed bag (on offense).

Funny http://kenpom.com/factors.php?y=2010&t=d but Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke were 3 of the top teams on DEFENSE in 2010.

Who knew that Calipari, Self, and Coach K were plodding, defense-oriented coaches? Hmm.

WTF is your point?

I used to think Marcus was 10x better then Myron and I have no problem with criticism where warranted, but Marcus really has slipped in his coverage and turned negative about everything. He's now no better then Myron with 20% of that being Myron improving and 80% of it being Marcus falling back.

Say what? Marcus has been all over it, he has actually provided a lot of information this summer, while Myron comes out with old/stolen info days later.

Marcus and his negative tone has really been annoyed and hearing far less from Myron (Thanks Royce) is fine by me. In a perfect world Myron would follow Royce down to the Ames Tribune.

I understand the question, and to me it is valid. My only response is that RW and Coleman are buddies, from what I understand.

So says Shooter, from what I have heard they aren't that close.

Yeah, so what?

Your link to KenPom is meaningless unless you look at 2003-04-05-06-07-08-09-10 rather than only 2010. Tubby likes his teams to play up-tempo. Not all of them do. His UK teams under Hawkins and Rondo were up-tempo. His Gopher teams with Nolen at starting PG were up-tempo.

Yeah, so what?

Tubby has wanted to run at Minnesota from the word go. He likes to start the fast break out of a pressing defense and get easy points in the transition. In fact it worked real well, until teams figured out we couldn't rebound and our interior defense was soft, so then the opponents slowed the game down and pounded it inside. Not sure if you have watched much Gopher basketball, but if you have, you would know that when the Gophers could transition they scored a lot of points, when they had to play half court offense they sucked. The problem has been the players, not Tubby's scheme, that has slowed things down.

Since you don't seem to know that I am assuming you have not watched much Gopher hoops.

POINT goes to Plinnius! Based off the statistical data provided in Plinnius' post FOT's claim that the gophers play an up-tempo style is false.

Statistics don't prove anything. Tubby's scheme has been a pressing/trapping defense and then fast transition for easy points. The problem is the execution of the scheme, not what Tubby's system is. If you took UNLV circa 1989-90, and put slow plodding players on that team, guess what their stats wouldn't be good despite the system being a run and gun style.

False. Look at Tubby's UK teams www.kenpom.com in 2003-04-05-06-07 and Gopher teams in 2008-09-10. The majority of those teams (not all) played an up-tempo game. Do the math!!!

Yeah, I looked at those years. The highest any of those teams ranked in adjusted tempo was 137th.

04 - 137
05 - 162
06 - 221
07 - 159
08 - 195
09 - 214
10 - 211

What does it matter what his scheme is if he doesn't recruit players that are suited to execute it?

Not sure what caused the problem, the uncertainty of who would be eligible because of White, Mbwake, and Nolen, or learning the players capabilities, but the half court offense sucked as you said. It seems the adjustments could have been made sooner than they were, the last four or five games of the season and the Big Ten tournament they looked decent. I don't expect them to have the same problems this year. You have what is basically a veteran experienced team comming back, if similiar problems persist I would have to say it is the scheme regardless of the players capabilities.

It's the highest honor a Gopherfan can attain. It means you've won.

Come on, Ma. You're just saying that because of your son Art. When he's not called it, many people think it. Though i'm not sure he's won that often.

Royce will have zero influence over Joe Coleman.

However, it's been no secret for awhile now that the Gophers are far from the locks most considered them to be for Joe and that it will be a very interesting and nervous recruitment for MN fans. Joe is a kid they absolutely must get. Won't go into the details of why Joe is down on MN but there are some issues in his mind and Tubby and co. need to fix it as best they can. He hasn't eliminated us by any means but it is not the slam dunk so many thought it would be.

Up-tempo means an offense that scores a lot. Most of those seasons, Tubby's teams were in Top 25 of Div I offenes (per KenPom).

I don't know really how to express this but my opinion of recruiting has changed dramatically in the last few years. Sure...I still get disappointed if a big-time recruit doesn't choose the Gophers, but if the kid doesn't want to play here, have we really lost out on anything?? If Coleman wants to play elsewhere, I wish him success but also, don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out. Tubby DOES need to secure a good recruiting class for 2011, though...no doubt.

Needs F, SG and PG.

Are the issues basketball related, or personal? Can it be fixed? Not that I trust rivals, but Coleman doesn't have the Gophers in his top 5 according to his profile.
