Mara Braun Watch Continues -- Return from Redshirt Injury Season

Not sure, but I think she may be eligible second semester since she didn’t play for the Gophers this season. Oregon has been listing Heyer as Out on the game availability report, which wouldn’t make sense if she is not eligible. Can’t be Out if you’re not eligible.
The Oregon announcement said she won't play until next season

I understand that Heyer's plan was to sit out this year. I was just suggesting that she might be eligible to play second semester, if she had wanted to. When Sophie Hart transferred mid-year, it was emphasized that she was ineligible because you can't play for 2 teams in one season. But mid-year transfers who didn't play the first semester are eligible, I think. South Carolina, for example, has a new player this semester from France. Of course, coming from France and another school is not the exact same thing, but Heyer didn't suit up a game for the Gophers this season.

The rules with the transfer window now is that you have to transfer within the window to be eligible for any part of the following season. Because she did so well after that window closed she is not eligible until next season. And you would list someone on your roster as OUT if they are on the roster but not eligible to play.... because they are OUT (due to ineligibility).

The Oregon coach quote about her on her official page talks about how she will help the team "next season".

Good points. But I’m still a little uncertain. Big Ten availability reports have three categories: “Out for Season”, “Out” and “Questionable”. Oregon has been listing Heyer as “Out” rather than “Out for Season.” By your logic, shouldn’t she be listed as “Out for Season”? Her being listed as "Out" is what got me to thinking in the first place that she might be eligible, even though she was going to sit out.

Could it be they decided not to play her for the second half of this year and lose a whole year of eligibility. Giving her more than a year to mesh with the new team.
How does the scholarship work? Is she under scholarship for this year and next year?

She is going to Oregon for management grad school and NIL. She enrolled at Oregon this January. She graduated from Minnesota in December. She is not playing this season. She will graduate in late 2026, possibly early 2027, not sure.

She was outside a transfer window, making her declaration 13 days before the start of the season.

It is possible the phrase used is irrelevant or reflects she practices with the team but will not play until next season. She is redshirting this season.

Not related to anything else I wrote, I am really unhappy to not be seeing Heyer of Chaska playing for Minnesota this season.

Also unhappy to mysterioisly see her 3 point shooting % plunge last season, although her field goal percentage was .428.

Dang you Minnesota.

One other variable, is Braun depressed to see her friend get the shaft and leave, wonder what those long road trips would be like with Heyer along just kidding.

I don't know why they list her that way, but if you want to just ignore the clear NCAA rules to keep your uncertainty, that's fine.

Mara Braun against WI played an unbeleiveable game. She didn't force her scoring and picked her spots to attack. She rebounded well always hit the open person and helped handle the press. I don't think people reallize how hard it can be to come off two foot injurie and to adjust your game not to be a scorer. For what ever reason, WI left Grace and Mya open from three with plenty of time to load up and shoot the 3. They were much more agressive with Mara and she moved the ball to the open person and had a great overall day playing a team game. I hope she continues to play well, but no matter what, I'll always praise Mara not only because she is one of "us", but because she gives all she has each game and plays through the hard times with full effort.

Agreed, Braun played well. I think the biggest impact though was having a healthy, aggressive McKinney. Adding that extra scorer to the line up improved every player. We got a lot of easy lay ups and wide open threes from everybody. We just had too many options for Wisconsin to cover. Add the D doing a solid job and you get a 30 point victory.
Stay healthy.

Agreed, one of her best games of the year on defense and ball handling. She is starting to look like she is returning to her past form. Braun was fantastic on the boards yesterday.

Agree that Mara played winning basketball yesterday, despite not shooting well on relatively few attempts. She also didn't force bad shots. I am a huge fan of Mara's attitude, hustle and determination. Mara's shooting percentages have not impacted her effort and positive contributions in other areas.

Mara's game yesterday was also emblematic of her games in the Gophers' 5 conference wins. The Gophers have won 5 BIG games at the mid-way point, and Mara has yet to score in double figures in any of those wins, averaging 6.4 pts in the wins, on 7.8 field-goal attempts:

Mara has scored in double figures in each of the Gophers' 4 conference losses, averaging 15.75 pts, on 14.5 field-goal attempts:

I am not sure what to make of Mara's statistics in the wins versus losses, but found the differences interesting.
