Ugh - feel awful for her..
Right. No one has ever had back to back years of injuries and came back. Someone should tell Paige Bueckers.Or maybe it's time to listen to what her body is telling her?
I asked a question. Your contempt is uncalled for. And Bueckers suffered several different injuries, not the same one three times.Right. No one has ever had back to back years of injuries and came back. Someone should tell Paige Bueckers.
If it is a stress fracture, then that would suggest overuse. If it is a traumatic break, then it is most likely an unlikely coincidence.Put me in the group that thinks Braun's health was mishandled by the coach.
Before they played a game this season, Braun was interviewed and on camera discussed how she was apprehensive/anxious to see what happened/how it went because she hadn't played in a game for so long. I found that mindset for such an experienced player odd...like she was telling us something wasn't right.
Then, we go on the road. we travel across country and Braun plays 31 minutes in a blowout ... 73 to 38 over Oregon St. And the very next day she plays 39 minutes? Back to back less than 24 hours apart and she gets hurt. Hmmm
You could have argued that the absolutely ridiculous cream puff pre-season schedule was to keep your top 8 healthy with reduced minutes and develop additional players but that was not the plan.
Braun played 33 minutes vs Vermont. Johnson, for instance, played less than everybody thought she should of...and now a possible Braun replacement is not as ready as she might have been.
We can blame the shoes, the medical staff/trainers and the coach ... I don't think they are all blameless. I'm not there but that preseason video gave me angst...I'm sure there were other signs she wasn't right/fully healed/comfortable with her foot. But 70 game minutes within 24 hours was very dumb.
Ya, I know...I'm taking cheap shots...people get hurt...people have bad luck but there are is also common sense and awareness/things to look for to prevent bad things from happening to people sometimes. The Gopher folks in charge failed Mara Braun.
Well written, logical response that I am in agreement with overall. If it is a stress fracture, then that would suggest overuse. If it is a traumatic break, then it is most likely an unlikely coincidence.
A broken bone, once healed, is no more or less likely to break again. Typical timelines are 4 to 6 weeks, sometimes longer depending on the break. X-ray will show if the restructuring process is complete or not, and more than one doctor is going to look at her films. The green light to resume normal activities will not be done in a vacuum.
She is at least 6 months post injury, certainly long enough for mere mortals to heal and rehab, not to mention a D1 athlete with access to top medical professionals, facilities, trainers and nutrition.
Without knowing the details of the break, suggesting anyone failed her is more a function of expressing disappointment in the news than it is an accurate medical assessment.
Her comments are not unusual. After having a knee reconstruction, the mental healing took years to finally feel comfortable with it, long after the physical part was completely healed. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Just note the shoot around was after two plane flights and 70 minutes of game action in a 24/48 hour period. She literally got hurt in morning shoot around. How anyone can put blame on anyone is ridiculous. It’s unfortunate what happened but we as spectators should not think a coach or staff would put anyone at harm.
I would agree, that is not unreasonable, especially considering they were blow outs.Well written, logical response that I am in agreement with overall.
You make a good point about surgeries. Most of the injured players returning for me were not surgeries...sprained ankles, concussions, bad bruises with major swelling etc. And in those cases players were always begging to play before it seemed prudent..."Please let me play", gung ho, confident, "I'm so ready" kind of mindset with zero apprehension.
I would not have played her 70 minutes within a 24 hour period if it were me. Let me say it that way.
I’m not arguing when anything took place. I just would never put blame on anyone like that. Everyone has opinions and beliefs.Just note the shoot around was after two plane flights and 70 minutes of game action in a 24/48 hour period.
Obviously, I got no real idea from 10,000 feet away. Definitely just my opinion/speculation coupled with disappointment for Mara.I’m not arguing when anything took place. I just would never put blame on anyone like that. Everyone has opinions and beliefs.
