I don't... think you know who you're talking about.
And you do? Watch and wait...my comments will hold up.

The poster said he had "inside information" on a new coach. That IS a joke. There is no way that his list is close to reality. Watch what Maturi said about a "Minnesota-Like"coach. The new coach will
1. want the job badly
2. fit the Minnesota mold or have direct connections
And I do have some connections. You can take the last two points I made to the bank.
Your list is a joke...
Tuberville just took the Tech job..why would he bail out
Leach has issues, he's a jerk for the admin to work with..no way on him
And anyone who hires little Stoops deserves him. He's a total rear end from everything I've seen.
And NONE of these has any Minnesota connections-a primary prereq. according to Maturi.
Sorry, your insider is on the outside.

You're saying nothing and revealing less.
What does that even mean? "Fit the Minnesota mold." Talk about platitudes.
Hey everyone - I have breaking news! The next Gophers coach will be a carbon-based life form who breathes oxygen and emits carbon dioxide! My comments will hold up!
Let me explain this again...the new coach will be:
1. Former Gopher asst coach
2. Someone from Minnesota
3. Someone with direct connections to Minnesota
The coach will want the job as a "dream job." And will stay.

Candidate will have one of my three points, not all. But ties to the state or university are the major factors. Trestman is a strong candidate, but there are probably some OCs or DCs at other Universities who will be considered. I assume Maturi will be on the University jet flying to neutral locals for the interviews. You won't see much of him for the next week or possibly two.

What is this Neinas Search Firm going to do if we've already got our final 4?

Well the only other name that would fit Letsgogophers criteria would be Cory Sauter, now the HC at Southwest St.
Don't you think it's interesting how Maturi went from one day saying we will spend up to 3 mil a year for five years for a coach. Then two days later that we need someone "Minnesota-Like?" The two are not the same. So he either had a dose of fiscal reality, or changed the priorities for the new coaches credentials. The U will not spend even close to that number.
No, because that's not what he said.
I look forward to reading your rant in the a.m. while I am enjoyng my Folgers 100% Columbian.
Maturi's exact quote, we will pay up to 2-3 million a year with a five year contract...I believe that has now changed. It will be more in the 1-1.2 range. Top end 1.5
Looking at Sumlin's wikipedia page it says he was a WR and QB coach with Minnesota in the mid 90's. He was born in Indiana and played at Purdue so he has Big Ten roots. He was an offensive coordinator under Bob Stoops at Oklahoma where he was successful and so far has done well at Houston going 10-3 in his second season last year. My friend lives in Houston and says that people love him there. He may be a risk but he sure has the resume. I'd be very happy with Sumlin as our next coach!
I'd love to know who your source is, because I can't see more than two of those guys even garnering an interview.
Mike Stoops would be a terrible fit here. He is a macho, hyperactive loose cannon. He'd alienate people more than Brewster did. I can't see Maturi giving him the time of day. Plus, his Arizona tenure has been mediocre at best (he was on the hot seat to start this season). That'd be a bad hire, in my opinion. I can't see Maturi meshing with Stoops in any way, shape or form.
Tommy Tubberville does nothing for me. He's struggling at Texas Tech right now.
Leach, if Maturi decides to go that way, would be fine and certainly there would seem to be some interest on Leach's part. But, as indicated, Bruininks has said he'd prefer to steer clear of "baggage."
Sumlin will likely get looked at, be interested, and could be in play.
Not sure who your source is, but I find it very hard to believe that those four are the front runners. (Not doubting you GL, just doubting your source.)
Agree with tj here. I will add that I don't think the U will go anywhere near Leach.
GL: You should not be leaving the country at times like this...........Gopher Hole suffers in your absence. Not sure how much you have caught up on but check out Bleed's threads on Shama and Prez B's Q & A,....... good reads.
