KFAN Knuckleheads a little sensitive today regarding...

Again, the bizarre complex this board has about the Vikings continues. If a similar Tweet had been made bashing the Gophers, this thread would already be 10 pages long and consist of nothing but tantrums. "You've won THREE conference games, bro" is a reasonable response to that tweet.

Please, for God's sake, stop. Stop ALL of this. It's ****ing dumb.

Ending a response with "bro" is never reasonable...

Barreiro never said "don't investigate". He also never let the Wilfs off the hook for whatever they have done. Part of what Barreiro said, to the apparent expense of everything else he said, was that Dayton, Mondale, and others didn't do their jobs by looking into this sooner. It was never a case of saying "don't do it now, you had your chance and missed it". He wanted to know why it hadn't happened from the get go and chided Dayton for trying to earn political capital when he'd actually blundered by not investigating in 2011 when stadium talk started heating up.

The funny part is that the tweet didn't refer to the Vikings at all.

Okay, that sounds more reasonable but if he didn't mention that it was the Wilfs or no team, or stadium for that matter, then Barrerio was being disingenuous at best.
The authors of the bill, Dayton and Mondale were all very open about the NFL's position that the Wilf's were going to be the owners period.

Wonder how hard Danny has hit THAT one?

I'm a fan of both teams, and I find the tweet to be true. I also find it hilarious that the KFAN guys are so sensitive.

If that tweet the U put out is bashing the Vikings, I shudder to think what anything more strongly worded would be called. Honestly, the UMN tweet didn't call out the Vikings, its fans, their play, or anything else. They were referring to the success of their own team by highlighting the fact that MSP actually has a football team that plays on a national/major level that's winning right now.

For all the Vikings apologists who come here and whine that certain Gophers fans get too worked up with the Vikings and how they've negatively affected the U's ability to succeed by saying that people can be fans of both the Vikings and Gophers, spend money/time on each, etc and that everything can co-exist... That's great until you remember that the media in this town has downplayed Gopher successes, ridiculed the team/AD/fans (making them the socially-accepted joke of the town despite middle-of-the-pack play over the last 14 years, minus 2 Brew years), and flat out given little to no coverage when not doing the previous 2. This is just another example of their overreaction and negative coverage of a completely innocuous tweet.

This, all of this. +1! Well done, Rail.

I met PA one time at a bar/restaurant. Biggest ego of anyone I have met. I find him difficult to listens to. I don't think he listens to anyone, he has an agenda.

To be fair, I've met PA several times and I don't think his ego is out of control at all. He's actually a pretty down to earth guy if you get a chance to talk with him.

Barrerio has thrown the usual Monday Viking talk out the window. He's leading with Gopher football talk. Going through specific talking points right now. Topic #1: Which QB starts against Penn State?

Yeah, threatening 3 hours of mockery and sarcasm. That's what people were asking for?

Though to be fair, Gaard has been very fair and COMMON, yep Common Man Dan Cole has been the bloody voice of reason today and a few times last week.

Make of that as you will.

It didn't even mention the Vikings, vs the many many overt rips on the gophers. If they had said, "hey Vikings fans, tired of watching a bunch of overpaid losers? Come give the gophers a try" then it may have been warranted. This is a very obvious marketing ploy to get people excited bout the gophers, nothing more.

Agreed; I didn't read the tweet as a dig on the Vikings at all. But maybe that's because I don't watch much NFL to begin with.

A Gopher fan base that for the most part despises the local media desperately wants that same media's acknowledgement and praise.

You hung back as long as you could. Not jumping in right away must have taken a lot of willpower. Nice job. :drink:

To be fair, I did. But a cheap dig, but a dig none-the-less. It's the truth, though, so it's fair.

Keep in mind, I'm also a big Viking fan.

Jesus Christ man. Let it go. I know your family in the TC media appreciates your backing of them, but you are way off base here generalizing a few poor sports on GH. Obviously you don't get it or even TRY to understand. So just drop it.

I think you've mischaracterized the Gopher fan base on desires for media coverage. We don't want 'praise' or sunshine and rainbows blown up our collective rear-ends. We want knowledegable, even-handed coverage. Not clueless hacks taking cheap shots. The decades worth of cheap-shottery is the cause for the media hatred.

I think, however, that the years of the media discussing mostly disappointing teams and games, with even some of the bright spots of the past 15 years not always seeming so bright, has created a perception in some quarters than reasonable criticism of the Gophers equals potshots.

All of this being said is there enough excitement to sellout a 50,000 seat stadium?

I think that is what many folks here think is part of the solution to increase attendance. It's the Chicken vs Egg debate. The program wants to have influential people talking positively or at least objectively about the program to stir or at least not deter the interest of fans, recruits, and sponsors The team has to show a little success so the influencers don't feel like they are going out on a limb.

Why can't the Gopherhole board be more reasonable and less sensitive about their team? You know like every one over on Rube Chat.

I have played both softball and basketball against him in rec leagues and couldn't disagree with you more. Also have several friends who work for Clear Channel and they would agree with me.

Do you play basketball Wednesday nights E.P.? Agree he is arrogant as heck on basketball court.

I have met him and he is a pompous ass who loves kissing up to the horse trade and the Vikings but treats the common folk like shat.

If they wanted to take a shot at the Vikings, they could have been a little bolder. Maybe something like: "Come watch the Golden Gophers run through the Nittany Lions like Fred Smoot and Bryant McKinnie 'run through okra patch' on the Love Boat."

Can't I just keep hating KFAN because I don't think any single person on that station is worth listening to?

Don't know how much they've put here but I listened to it in the car while Junior was at viola lessons.

I'll take this every week in spades. It was good radio, with good jibes at GopherNation as well as VikingNation, WolvesNation, and WildNation...but no TwinsNation.

Brick-by-Brick...even with the media...and even on the "flagship."

Go Gophers! Beat the Lions!
