KFAN is a joke

Scout had Brandon Owens as a 5-star, too.

These may be "opinion" guys, but there's an old saying that you are entitled to your own opinion, but you aren't entitled to your own facts. Even if they only use Scout, 10th isn't last, that's just dishonest. But they should also mention that two other respected sources have the recruiting class in the middle of the pack.

Kfan is great at leaving out details to get their point. I was listening and heard talk on how many MN kids were getting D-1 schollys. Amazingly, they went thru a few, mentioning the kids that signed with WI, Nebraska, Stanford, and etc. Didn't hear them mention the 2 highly ranked MN kids that are staying here, Edwards/Gjere.

Is it too much to ask for them to actually have an intelligent conversation? It was Common, but seriously. You don't need to be experts, but purposely skipping talking about the highly ranked kids that WANT to play for the Gophers is so disappointing to me. And there are a few that think the media is not bias towards the Gophers and think they "tell it like it is".

I would settle with an honest conversation. They make no effort to find anything out, and cherry pick so they can talk smack. They are supposed to know more about sports than their audience. A lot of their audience is interested in the Gophers, but all the information the audience gets is filtered through ignorant KFAN smack.

I rolled my eyes when they said that Brandon Green was a freshman last year. And I still can't get past them saying the Totino RB was the best player in the state by far but "didn't have the grades" so he went to NDSU. I've never even heard of the kid before.

KFAN doesn't know the Big Ten has 11 teams. That is the root of this misunderstanding.

Calling him the "best player in the state" is ridiculous hyperbole. But it is true that he's a beast, and it's safe to say he would've been going to a better school than NDSU if not for academics. The kid absolutely dominated the state playoffs.

KFAN blows.

It's not a sports station at all. Their "talent" are a bunch of shock jocks that don't know *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# about sports.

I think there would be a market for real sportstalk radio in the Twin Cities. But KFAN just isn't it. The people I talk to who are regular listeners are always plenty eagar to talk about sports but end-up knowing nothing about sports.

Listening to the "talent" on KFAN try to talk about college football is only slightly less akward than walking through the Walker with them while they try to convince you they would make a wonderful art critic. At a certain point you just have to agree to leave, go to the bar, and talk about Kim Kardashian's boobs.

They just don't know what they are talking about. They can't even fake it. And it is painful and embarassing at times.

And people still think the Vikings have nothing to do with the Gophers. This event would be covered so differently if there were no pro football team in town.

Why? What big Vikings story are they covering today instead? If they were in the Super Bowl this week, you might have a point. But that isn't the case this year, or any of the last 33 years. Find another excuse. The real reason is that most people don't care. Even many of the people who are legit Gopher Football fans don't get that excited about signing day. Mostly because with the exception of the SH's of the world they've never heard of these players yet. Also because more times then not in the last 25 years, we have a spectacularly medicore class. Miami has everything Minneapolis has, including the Dolphins, yet there is probably more coverage of signing day there.

Not really. It's been mostly Pro Football talk down there today. Jarod from Subway is on next. Here's the Hurricane's Home station:

No offense, but you just learned today that KFAN is a joke? I've often thought that if I had the capital, I just might start a real sports radio station around here.

Wait, are you saying other cities have sports stations that talk sports all day? Like all of their live programming are solely focused on sports? And their hosts would actually have knowledge of every team in town and not just the Vikes and Twins? That's a crazy idea, but it might just work.

I'm guessing a big reason Miami (which is an awful, awful pro sports town) has more coverage of the Hurricanes than we do of the Gophers because the Canes have won 5 national titles in the last three decades. If the Gophs got even one Big Ten title, let alone a national championship, there'd be a big increase in regional interest, but we just can't seem to turn the corner.

So the Hurricane fan base doesn't have an inferiority complex like many in Gopher nation? Perish the thought.

Oh I'm sure they do it's just that, as strange as it would seem, the Hurricane "fan base" makes Gopher Nation look massive.

That assumed that the type of coverage that KFAN gives to the Gophers matches the regional interest. Perhaps there are less people interested in Gopher sports here than are interested in Miami sports in Miami, but there are still plenty of people interested in Gophers sports here. I don't think people are interested in listening to KFAN smacking the Gophers all the time. But that's all that is offered, so people will take it.

The idea of a real sports radio station seems like it makes more and more sense. If people could choose what sports channel to listen to, they might listen to one where the host actually know and care about sports, one where they don't act like it is a burden when they have to talk about the Gophers. They might prefer a real sports radio station.

The market drives the producers not vice versa. Minnesota is a bit odd but I don't think we've suspended the natural order just yet.

Kfan has been awful since they canned Puffy and fired Anselmo. I use to listen to them 20-30 hours a week, now I haven't listened to them in 3 months and will never again. I use to like to listen when they would have Brewer on but PA's annoying antics of always turning everything into a Vikings conversation got to be to much. That guy is the biggest poser I have ever heard. He was never and will not be again a Vikings fan, as soon as he is fired, the Vikings move, or he is hired by Fox or CBS. It bothers me when others reminisce about Vikings stories before 1998(when he joined KFAN) and he always is either quite or acts like it does not matter. That guy is all about self promotion and it drives me nuts. I crave talk about the local sports scene when I am out driving around and the only option is that drivel they put out there. Hes a guy who on air admitted he did not go to his own sisters funeral but went and called a horse race. He jumps on whatever is the "fad" thing at the time and acts like he is knowledgeable. This station has gone down hill ever since they fired Anselmo as the head honcho. The sad thing is I liked him the best of the on-air staff when I decided not to put my self listening to that crap anymore.

Surprise Surprise...Barrero saying the recruiting class sucks and its all Brewster's fault......

Then where, pray tell, IS this Hurricane coverage in Miami? It certainly isn't on their flagship station. The Pioneer Press and Strib have as much or better coverage then the Miami Herald does today. The Palm Beach Post is more focused on Florida then Miami. The Sentinel's main story is a kid who signed with West Virginia!

Nope, the Gophers actually get BETTER local coverage then the Hurricanes. Who would have thought. KFAN not with standing.

Well, whether or not its good or bad is subjective, but ultimately the responsibility or the praise belongs to the head coach.

You know... if you don't like Sid, Pat, or KFAN -- stop listening to them! They're making a living off of pissing you off and you listening in!

As a believer in free enterprise, I have to think that if there was a huge, unmet need in the MSP market for more pro-gopher coverage, it would have been met by now.

Most of the in-town stations have their 10-15 minute Gopher segments from time-to-time. AM830, AM1500, etc, etc...

By the way, I am a Gopher fan and I would love to listen to a 24-7 pro-Gopher radio station, but I think I/we are in the minority. Everyone thinks this is such a conspiracy. The market tends to work itself out with things like this. The market has spoken.

I am friends and grew up with a few people who have interned or worked for Clear Channel and both of them have said that PA is just a complete jerk. One went so far as say that if he saw PA walking down the street and no one was around he would jump him. He was kidding of course

Magpie
I figured that out one day when I was yelling at the radio in my car, I thought to myself you know that they are making money off you listening to it. Right then and there I decided that was it and haven't been back since. Can anyone confirm that PA said he was your signing day leader. My friend texted me and let me know that. By the way I am in Lacrosse for work and was listening to there local this morning and they weren't to happy with Buttheads effort this year. The guy didn't know how a 10 win team wouldn't be ranked higher but they were only going off of Rivals and not Scout.

That was my point. Some here want to blame the Gophers problems on the Vikings, which is just sad.

Recruit someone worth mentioning and maybe they'll have more info on them.

How about 4 Stars Lamonte Edwards and Jimmy Gjere the local angle everyone talks about. Besides that if your going to do a half-ass job like has been reported on here then don't do anything at all. They obviously have an agenda and it must get ratings to rip the Gophers.

Anybody hear lately whatever happened to Jeff Dubay? He had that run-in with the law awhile ago and let go from the station. Just wondering. Thanks in advance.

Go Gophers on signing day!!!

Was reported a couple of weeks ago that he failed another drug test and I think was headed to the workhouse? Might be wrong, but sounds like he hasn't come close to pulling it together yet. Very sad to see someone ruin their life like that.
