KFAN/Barreiro saying they will have some info. on today's show

Maybe all these guys are gunning for Miami. Once they hire the rest will fall into place.

Why would any coach do that? The Minnesota job is closer in status to Miami than one might think.

Through Maroon and Gold glasses they are. You can't be serious.

Lou Nanne

Like Chryst is going to let his ego turn down a $1M pay raise. Get real. The guy will be lucky to be coaching in the MAC next year muchless turning down a Big Ten school because he wasn't one of the "top targets".

As if Gaard has any contacts in this whole thing, a KFAN hack. Even Lou Nanne, you think Lou is all connected on this coaching search??? Come on, the guy is vacationing in tropical regions this time of the year, what you think Maturi is on the horn updating him on the "top secret" search??

This whole thing is just done to get a reaction. Maybe Gaard will dive into why the Hawks got their @sses kicked up here last weekend? Got any reaction to that Gaard??

I watched Lou Nanne on Sports Show last Sunday night and he predicted that a new football will be announced sometime next week. I believe he may have knowledge on the search and he did not seem negative about the outcome at all. I don't think he is Gaard's source. Paul Allen was talking up Chryst yesterday so he may be a source. It appeared that they got their info from a Trestman booster because they were pressing Brackin about why Trestman has not been interviewed.
My take is that even if these coaches named by JG have turned JM down, I would be very happy with a Jerry Kill hiring. His Northern Illinois Team has one more game this weekend.

Health issues probably would stop that. Could a new school even get a contract insured for him?

Gaard is an Iowa hack. He is the KFAN Gopher reporter and he forget to report the Iowa loss to MN. His source is probably Doogie.

Doogie, keep up the great work.
I enjoy the news you provide very much.
Even if you get a scoop wrong, I know it was put out in good faith. And best of all, you don't spin your info to push an agenda (KFAN).

If it's true, and nobody wants the job--- how can some of the only on the record information we have about the search be that a decision will be public "soon".

I don't buy this KFAN report.

Further, after the news of Brewster's firing was leaked by the athletic department, does anybody else remember how upset Maturi was? There is no way he's going to let that happen again, especially when the first leak is that fresh in his mind.

My guess is that there are people fairly high up in that athletic department that have no idea who the "finalists" are and where exactly this process is. Loose lips sink ships...

Maturi isn't an idiot (as much as some people think he is). If the U plays their cards right and they have a big name hire in line, they're going to manage this announcement and milk it for all the publicity it's worth.

Doogie,

What do you think of my Nanne being the source theory, you used to be a KFAN producer, did you ever get insight on how connected he is at the U? Did you ever produce a segment that he appeared on?

Would a guest like Nanne normally call in ahead of time to go over that days segment, confirm times, etc., giving Gaard a chance to glean some inside info?

I think it's entirely plausible.

Remember, your moniker is off by a letter or two.

and yours is off by one letter, but if you're this big sports reporter, you'll need a lot tougher skin. Maybe if you trolled less here and actually reported, people wouldn't question your credibility. But you have bamboozled some of this membership, so nice "work."

I thought Kill was healthy now. He had cancer in '05 but is now cancer free and a gall bladder issue late this summer. He might have a head cold now, though.

Never troll... post regularly, and have since Nadine and Rob brought me aboard for a while last year... not afraid to hide behind some made-up moniker... and I never report something without having at least one credible source telling me something, i.e. an agent/an agent handler/coach/Bierman contact.

I think it's quite likely that all of the top candidates are waiting to see what all the openings might be. I know I would do that if I were in that position. Most of the potential openings should be apparent by early next week. We may not get our top choice, but I suspect we will have a very good coach in place by mid-to-late next week.

Don't ask me who, because my crystal ball broke last week. My preferences are Harbaugh, Richt, Mullen, Golden, in that order.

Doogie, I appreciate you posting on here. I don't always agree with everything you say or write, but it's still good to have you here.

With that said, I don't understand why you always bring up the gopherholers hiding behind a moniker thing. Your job is one that makes you a public figure. It would be stupid for you to not indicate who you are on here. Stating who we are doesn't do any good. What's the difference if you know who I am or not? I'm not part of the media, and don't work for the university. You knowing who I or anyone else is doesn't change anything.

You make it seem as if Kill coached from a bed in the ICU.

;)

Nope, but I've dealt with insurance companies before. I'd doubt they'd be lining up to insure a contract for 5-8 years at $2 million plus for Mr. Kill. Those that would be be asking for a lot of money to do it.

Maybe the U would self-insure it but really, why take the risk.

It's relevant only when others do little except personally attack on here. It's easier to do that when no one knows who you are.

It isn't hard to say things behind a moniker. I would say the same things to Doogie's face. It isn't said with malice. It is just my opinion. Based on what I have seen. What is he going to do to me in person? Fight me? I'd be happy to meet Doogie. I am sure he is a good guy. He just loves his old KFAN buddies and trusts too many "sources".

You would, but I suspect others might be more subdued if their comments could be tied back to them. Confrontation is a lot easier through a computer screen.

I see your point, though. Just saying that some people have a shtick that's more comfortable to do anonymously.

Interview Leach!

If things are going as badly as reports are indicating. Why not look at Leach?

Texas Tech wishes they had him back. He creates instant buzz ,excites the students/fan base sells tickets and in a state that elected Jesse Ventura and Al Franken ...who says we cant take a chance. You would not see an empty seat in the student section.

I'm a lover, not a fighter... always glad to discuss face-to-face... lunch soon? Friday? Anyone else available?

At the risk of sounding like a "Rube" or "Homer" let's not forget that letting out a leak that says coach X wasn't interested is a soft landing for him. Coaches don't want it to be known that they were considered for a job and then passed over for someone else.

Lou Nanne is basically telling burrito and hogeye they don't know what they are talking about in regards to the coaching search. burrito quickly changed the subject.

Also heard on the sports update that Mullen is Miami's first choice. All the plots thicken!

How has this thread turned on Doogie? The guy really doesn't need to come here and doesn't really do it within the confines of his job. I almost never agree with Doogie but aren't we all really here to simply argue about sports?

As far as KFAN and Dan Barreiro, I have always thought that part of their problem was that they seem to have a ton more confidence in some of their sacred cows than they should for information. I like Lou Nanne, but you are delusional if you think he is super plugged into the coaching search. They also rely on info from TT when it comes to basketball and I really don't think i've ever heard one of his predictions come about. I really can't believe that all of these coaches would be turning down a huge contract and the opportunity to coach in the Big 10. It just doesn't make sense.

I think it's hilarious that Chryst would say "too late" when it hasn't been a week after the season has ended (Wisconsin still has a bowl game). That suggestion is laughable that he would shake off such a major career move because of a perceived slight. If Chryst wanted the job two weeks ago, he would want it even more now.

The problem is not that reporters are lying, it's that no one really knows anything yet. No one has the ear of the sources that officially know (Maturi/Bruininks) and the second-hand people who are close to possible candidates are purely speculating.

Why are people bashing Doogs? He's mining his sources and trying to figure things out. I'm glad he's doing it and is active on Twitter and GopherHole with readers/listeners. If you don't like what he is doing, go to wordpress.com, start a blog, pick up a phone and get to work.

I enjoy coming on here... those who watch Ch. 5 are more casual sports fans... 1500 is a different animal, but I love communicating/going back-and-forth w/ super passionate fans... that's what this board is.
