Barreiro comes on at 3 p.m.

Another smokescreen?

They probably will have some info. Useful info, probably not. Probably just more rumors from the usual unreliable sources. If they really had anything, they would be rushing to get it to the air to beat the competition.

Yeah, they wouldn't sit on it if it was real information. Probably just a repeat of one of the bazillion things floating around here... San Diego writer convinced Hoke is coming here, Fedora has been contacted, Golden, etc. etc.

Sounds like it's the "may have to go with Horton since no one else wants to come here" take.

Gaard is reporting Golden, Calhoun and Mullen have all said no to Maturi. In addition, he is reporting that Paul Chryst was interested, however after the first set of interviews Maturi went back to him and he said no because they were "too late."

That's hilarious. KFAN's Gopher page has the same ridiculous Sprint ad that spent the past two days doing its best to ruin GopherHole.

Reporting and Insight from KFAN? Nobody's expecting it to be accurate, are they?

/dismissive snort

If any of this is true, at what point does the New President have to come and and hire a new AD and do the hiring. I know that is extreme, but guys are turning down 1-2M to coach in the Big Ten.

First off, how would Gaard know any of this? I'm guessing no one at KSUCK has very good contacts at the U. They are throwing more sh*t at the wall and hoping some sticks. Here is my "report". Bud Grant, Belicheck, and Gruden all said no to Maturi and Trestman said we were too late as he's now in love with Montreal.

Gaard is an Iowa hack. He is the KFAN Gopher reporter and he forget to report the Iowa loss to MN. His source is probably Doogie.

Knowing Gaard from his college past, he has some pretty connected friends. But unless he names them, I'm skeptical.

all the scum bag sports journalists in town

want to be the first to break the news .... Sid/Maxx at CCO - Schmidt at KSTP - the KFAN crew - iI am sure ESPN is also out there in this regard It is embarrasing to them all to watch how they conduct themselves - I have no respect for any of them - our media frenzy society has found its way into sports...they all play the "I am a journalist and should be taken seriously" card whenever pushed on anything or need to act important - In the scheme of all things there is nothing they do that is of any importance and I wish they understood this

Lou Nanne could be the source, I think they said he would be on for his regular weekly visit later on today, Gaard could have chatted with Nanne about what they would discuss with Nanne on the show today with Nanne revealing some tidbits (off the record)?

Nice rag on Doogie given the fact that he has tweeted repeatedly that he expects the coach to come from several of the names Gaard claims aren't interested. But ya know, Doogie is the devil and all.

Gaard probably posted that crap because its likely a new coach will not be named till next week and this gives him and Barriero a week of material and negativity...

Actually this gives Doogie cover if he is wrong. He can say that he was right, but that MN was turned down. I don't care who is right or wrong. However to suggest that someone knows everyone that has turned down the job, I say BS. You do not offer the job to someone with no interest. I am sure some on JG's list had no interest and no offer to turn down. Also, Chryst and Maturi families are very close. I doubt Chryst would not take the job or be pissed at his family friend Maturi because he wasn't their top choice.

Like Chryst is going to let his ego turn down a $1M pay raise. Get real. The guy will be lucky to be coaching in the MAC next year muchless turning down a Big Ten school because he wasn't one of the "top targets".

As if Gaard has any contacts in this whole thing, a KFAN hack. Even Lou Nanne, you think Lou is all connected on this coaching search??? Come on, the guy is vacationing in tropical regions this time of the year, what you think Maturi is on the horn updating him on the "top secret" search??

This whole thing is just done to get a reaction. Maybe Gaard will dive into why the Hawks got their @sses kicked up here last weekend? Got any reaction to that Gaard??

Hilarious that ANY gopher fan would listen to jackhole barrerio and hawkeye piglover gaard about our new head coach. It's a bit guys, we crushed the soul of hawkeye nation and this is JG's rebuttal with the approval of perennial gopher hater barrerio.

Somethings coming, it's still Maturi so we will be strung out to dry for awhile until a candidate comes back and takes what is a VERY good Big10 job with low expectations, a high salary, and a new stadium to recruit to. Make no mistake, Maturi is an amateur and a badger at heart so he will screw up in the end, but that's why he has training wheels in the form of Mona, Dungy, and Bruininks.

My bet's still on Hoke, maybe Golden if we're lucky.

I'm sure it was presented in a fair light with the proper perspective. I'm sure they pointed out that Golden also turned down schools like Tennessee and his dream job is Penn St. I'm sure they pointed out that Calhoun is coaching his alma mater and is very loyal. And I'm sure they wouldn't point out that this is only rumor.
Or they could have spun it to make the U look as bad as possible and that nobody wants to coach here. And anyone who doesn't believe them is a rube or a bobo

In fact, isn't Joel Maturi Chryst's godfather? He is I think. So he got pissed at his godfather and now won't take a Big Ten HC job because he wasn't at the top of the list? What a pile of BS.

Calm down, Calm down. I don't think any of the other jobs have been taken yet. Maybe all these guys are gunning for Miami. Once they hire the rest will fall into place. Never know I guess.

How in god's name can they get away with this garbage? Seriously? It's like their asinine assertion that negative press and ripping the H out of the program has no affect on local recruiting.

Seriously bush league reporting from KFAN, really awful. I guess that's what happens when you give a Hawkeye a microphone.
