They're discussing the Gopher's soft scheduling and about how they'd like to see them schedule at least one decent opponent to measure themselves against. I decided to email them to point out the scheduling of TCU the next 2 years. Here is the exchange:
-------------------------------
Dan and AP Sports Guy,

Please do some research and see that the Gophers are actually doing EXACTLY what you're begging them to do....scheduling a good opponent in non-conference play:

2014: TCU
2015: TCU

This is 2012. We are evaluating this program now.

They are talking about this years soft schedule. I also don't think TCU gets on the schedule if the UNC deal doesnt unfold. Kill did not expect the back lash, this idea that the media is out to get us gopher fans is getting out of hand. .

Uh, this year isn't 2012.

Great, a guy that hates Gopher sports, and knows NOTHING about it, is breaking it down with something that doesn't even use it's own name. What the hell is "AP Sportsguy"?

Please please PLEASE respond back with A) it's NOT 2012, it's 2013 and B) they essentially moved the one tough NC game back one year (UNC this year and next to TCU next two years). Of course, they will pick a subject, formulate an uneducated opinion, and hold fast to said uneducated opinion all the while mocking anyone who presents them a challenge.

..but THEY did. That was kind of the point.

Didn't hear that. I'm at the driving range listening on my phone and probably missed something. I'm sure gopherhole will throw a fit for about a month about it though.

They will probably say something like TCU stinks this year and is 4-8 in their last 12 games vs BCS level teams.

It's Jon Krawczynski or @APkrawczynski, that's just a bit on KFAN, like Funkadelic Flip...Flip obviously still has a last name ;).

I gotta get AP Jon's back here - he doesn't hate Gopher sports, and he actually knows a ton about it. He's probably one of the most knowledgeable writers I've met, and I got to him frequently to get his opinions and see what he's heard. He's all over the place, and covers everything Gopher related with Dave Campbell.

When you get the chance read the O.P. It was funny and a little ironic. Nothing for people to get worked-up about. Now commenting about a post without actually reading all of it?

Now THAT'S a Gopher Hole standard that we all seem to have been guilty of.

;) well played salesman

Why don't journalists use their real names on GH? Cowardice.

NM. I was blowing off steam.

I normally like Krawcynski, but I thought this was a rough segment for him. He was pretty much Barreiro's little sycophant the whole time (which I'm sure made Gaardsy a bit jealous). Krawcynski pulled out the ol' "Gophers fan base is tiny and provincial" line to describe why most fans are defending Kill. Don't jump to "we're rational, thinking people capable of forming our own thoughts on the impact of Kill's Epilepsy on the direction of the program, and most of us come to a similar conclusion." Nope, just provincial. That's like saying that popular opinion thought that Django Unchained was a good movie only because Tarantino fans are provincial. Maybe it was just a good movie, and most people came to that conclusion on their own after watching it. Plurality of opinion does not equate to provincialism.

Barreiro also said that fans who support Coach Kill are patronizing him. His argument: Coach Kill doesn't want sympathy, so people who support him as coach are patronizing him. That's a pretty perverse take, to say the least.

Barreiro and Krawcynski also spent the first part of the segment talking about why it should be fair to ask questions and have a discussion about Kill's health. I agree with that, but try this on for size: Actually frickin' talk about it then! How does that grab you? It seems like everybody who's said Kill's Epilepsy "is something that we should be able to talk about" never actually talks about it. Actually have the conversation, instead of just waxing intellectual about the possibility of having the conversation. If you can't follow up from "we should talk about it" with an actual conversation about it, maybe there's not actually that much to discuss.

I did. The rest of the exchnage was as follows:

ME: Actually, this is 2013 smartass.

KFAN: 2012 any better?

ME: I thought we were discussing the present. Now you want to discuss the past?

Let me see if I understand: you'll discuss the present and past (because it fits your argument), but not the future (because it doesn't).

Gotcha.

True. I assumed everyone knew it was Jon. Wasn't trying to imply he was hiding his identity.

The post was mostly about the email exchange with Barreiro (or someone at the FAN). Though I will say that both Jon and Dan were happy to bash the Gophers for their scheduling and made no mention of TCU being set for 2014 & 2015.

Was trying to point out facts, but seems those aren't of interest much these days. Silly me.

Scheduling is always the topic that media members who like to poke fun at the football program fall back on. At the moment, the public is showing their support of coach Kill at a time where unfair things have been said by the media, and the team is 3-0 and heading in the right direction. A guy like Barriero needs to stir the pot, so of course he chooses to talk about scheduling. It's so predictable.

You have shown yourself to be a bit of a rube at times in the past Nadine with more established media types so I'll maintain my alternate opinion.

What was said?

I didn't catch the schedule piece. I thought Dan and AP Guy were pretty balanced on Kill - Dan pointing out that some supporters risk going too far and treating Kill as Jerry the epileptic (needs to be treated with kids gloves) and that Jerry might just want to be Jerry the coach. Not a bad take in my opinion.

Dan tried blasting Teague with Nannette. Lou had none of it, saying waiting until Monday was right and that he never spoke about trades after a game - wait until the emotion is gone. Dan tried to counter that a Saturday presser may have diffused things somewhat...Lou again had none of it, stating the conversation would've only turned to second guessing Teague's decision if he immediately answered Kill questions. I think the word vulture was tossed out.

This is dead on. And something that's bothered me for a while. Sadly, the one guy who did actually talk about it, did so in such an uninformed and tactless manner, that he lost any credibility (if he had any left to begin with). Then he knee-jerkedly decided that Kill should step down (or the U should force him out). Talk about extremes.

I love Lou Nanne. Barreiro has great guests that usually put him in his place. It makes Dan's whining somewhat tolerable.

If it was up to the media our non-conference schedule would be:
Alabama
Notre Dame
Stanford
Miami

I am so sick and tired of people like burrito. He especially thinks he knows more about play calling and coaching then the people who get paid to do it. No wonder he got fired by the trib. Hopefully suchan is right behind him.
