"Why not" is to keep players (and coaches) away from gamblers and casinos!
Maybe a bunch of teams will tank if the tournament is announced to be played in Vegas. That way they can keep their players out of harm's way
Are you going to confiscate their cellphones too? That's where a predominant amount of "action" takes place.
My guess is the gambling/ tourism industry in Vegas can ensure the conference big $ whether they sell one ticket or not.
That risk does put a crimp in advanced planning.
Those casinos might be the safest ones.

At a minimum, we will be in the Last Three Out group.
First Three Out. But I'm an optimist.
I suspect the depths the NCAA will go for choosing teams from the Power conferences will be dependent on the middle and bottom of the leagues. If they are really bad, like B1G was last year, it will damage the middle rung bubble teams. Leagues like the Big 12 who really do have a lot of good teams will really benefit. A lot of it will depend on which power schools decide to compete and which ones just give up and take the TV money checks and become paid losers for the higher end of the league. I think there will be several in each conference, and I think we are a good candidate for paid loser.
That's a really good synopsis on U of M athletics at this point. Pretty much sums up perfectly why I'm finally not renewing my Gopher season tickets but continuing my St. Thomas season tickets. Whatever this new era of college athletics brings, I'm confident UST at the very top is committed to excellence. I don't feel that same way about the U of M, and haven't for quite some time.
