Joseph out long-term?

Time to get Big Mo a new roommate. He and Devoe are rooming together and consider each other like brothers. I'd hate to lose Mo after this season.

Go Gophers!!

This Gopher team needs Devoe's talents, as long as he's committed to team and not individual goals/vices. But if he's not, I completely agree with what Pewter's saying. The fact of the matter is, this Gopher team played its best basketball in Puerto Rico while Devoe was back in Minneapolis. It'll be a blow if we don't have him, for sure, but it doesn't mean the end of the season by any stretch. Tubby will adjust and move on, as all good coaches do.

I'm just saying that if this announcement came out at the same time as grades came out then this might have been something to push them over the edge and suspend him.

I agree with SS. Its crazy to say we will be better without him.. that said, we have proved that we can win without him. He does add something to the team which, currently, is not available anywhere else on the roster. He can create his own shot and is a threat to score from the point..

Even if nolen plays well.. we will still miss the extra outside threat. We need Austin to pick up his outside shooting game. It also wouldn't hurt if Rodney decided to be aggressive every game. That said, we can still win big games without Devoe. I guess we will find out soon enough. If we can beat Indy and Purdue to go 2-3, I think we will be just fine.

Another tweet from Myron says devoe has been not attending practices. That'd likely get you in some trouble.

Honestly I'm disappointed but I am sick to death of worrying about off court issues and whether or not a player will be available. At this point I'm just putting Joseph out of mind and hoping Al stays healthy and Armelin and Hollins mature quickly.

Agree with all this. Here's the real oddity: Last year the team played better late in the year without Nolen this year we started better without Joseph. Why can't we achieve some synergy?

Um...yeah, I'd say that might be a problem.

He didn't tweet it though, That was my mistake. It was a quote from tubby in myrons blog That he hasn't been at practice, and That it "is the only issue we've had so far"

Blaming how the team has played the last few weeks on Devoe is crazy. Expecting Nolen to pickup the slack is equally crazy. Look for Maverick to get a lot more playing time than anyone would like to see.

Unreal. I was one of the fans who felt Devoe was the key to this season. He is the only guy who can get to the rim. He is the only other guy (Hoff) who can hit a three. He is the only other guy who can play the point (right now) in the big ten. This is going to hurt.

I got balls deep into the whole Royce and Trevor fiasco last year. Regardless of what Devoe does or doesn't do or whether he plays or doesn't play it's out of my personal control. It's just not worth the energy for me to worry about it. So, there ya go.

This could be the reason why this team hasn't been playing as well as we've expected. It seems like this team's fortunes went down every since Devoe returned. There could be some internal issues on the team. If Devoe leaving this team allows us to become more cohesive and play better like we did in P.R., then I'm all for it.

Armelin can get to the rim as good or better than Joseph- it's just the outside shooting and experience that we lack there. Nolen can get to the rim- he just can't get it inside of the rim.

I forgot about Armelin when I typed my reaction. I agree, he can get there for sure, and he will need to play a lot more. Nolan is a lost cause when it comes to scoring.

You know what? I applaud Tubby for making these guys be stand up guys. Thinking back to how selfishly Devoe has looked at times the past couple games, I am guessing he knew what was coming. These guys have the opportunity to play for a D1 basketball team in the premier D1 conference in the country...your at school to play basketball, not playing basketball to go to school. Standards have to be lived up to. Its a 2 way street...do what is expected and you will get rewarded. So sick of the drama with the team, but what an opportunity for guys like Armelin and it only will make us better as the season goes on. If I was a betting man, I would bet that Joeseph will not be in a uniform the rest of the season.

Potential disaster. This team already probably didn't have the guards to go far. If Joseph isn't back soon, the situation gets even worse. Armelin is not the answer to anything, and Ahanmisi should be playing at a JUCO somewhere.

Devoe just seems to be on a completely different page from the rest of the team when on the floor. I don't post on basketball too much, but Tubby plays too many guys and it kills the flow of the game at times. Addition by subtraction might be good.

Starting and stopping with Joseph is not the answer either. More than likely, IF he comes back, he will play in less than half the games. I would rather see this team grooming one of the younger guys who obviously want to be here more than Joseph. IMO, this team is a year away from being REALLY good anyway.

Marcus now tweeting that Devoe might transfer.

Just got this tweet from @RyanJamesMN: Now there are Devoe Joseph transfer rumors hitting hard. Word is he missed a practice to go along with things.

Myron just Tweeted:
I'm told that Devoe issue is a two-way street. Joseph not sure he wants to play for Gophers anymore.

If that's the case - best of luck to him. No need to drag any drama out, and have a soap opera like last year. He contributed a lot last year, and I wish he could have this year as well. I just hope these guys really think this stuff out - and if it's worth sitting out a year, to possibly get to the level he was at here?

Tweet from Myron:

"Devoe Joseph meeting with Tubby Smith today about his future with the program."

"Source: Joseph "serious" about quitting team and transferring to another school."

Go Gophers!!

Then let him go and replace him.

his reverse lay-ups are out of this world!

Missing practice(s)? That's a no-no.

Devoe's not an idiot so the academic issues are just laziness on his part.

I hate the win-at-all-costs mentality so I'm glad we have a coach like Tubby that doesn't put up with this crap. I'd rather be medicore and maintain a certain set of rules, integrity, etc than win with a bunch of d-bags being run by someone like Slick Cal.

This hurts us in the short term but in the long term we will be ok. Right now we don't have anyone but freshmen to fill in and you know freshmen make mistakes. Devoe was not quite as turnover prone as our freshman although the ill advised 3's are just as good as a turnover. He gave us some experience at the point and was a decent ball handler. The freshmen will need to step up and we will see some mistakes but eventually they will settle down and play decent for us.
