Jones, Vaughn, Travis, Ellenson, etc.

Somebody produce some concrete shooting stats on this guy. I'm sure his own team will have stats, but those are never accurate. Hard to believe there's not a website that tracks that kinda stuff. Anyway, from what I've seen in the videos on his "all things" page, he's nothing special and I suspect he'll wind up being a role player on a team like Duke. From what I saw, he's a decent ball handler and passer but he's nowhere as quick or athletic as someone like Pressey at Mizzouri, Ferrell at IU or Burke at Michigan.

I'd venture to guess that Vaughn is the only guy who will ever be a 1st rounder in the NBA. Jones doesn't have that kinda talent.

Hmm. I thought winning more basketball games was precisely why we have this coach. If the U bought Tubby's services with the understanding that he is a great recruiter, they made a bad purchase based on bad information. He has never been a great recruiter. He got a few McD's All-Americans at Kentucky, because everyone at Kentucky gets McD's All-Americans. Despite not being a great recruiter, he has won a ton of basketball games, is winning them still, and will continue to win until he retires. The sun will still rise the next day even if zero of these recruits sign with the U, which is a very real possibility despite what some may want to believe.

I'm going to bookmark this thread and bump it in two years. This is simply priceless.

There's your mistake. You can't judge a player solely from highlight videos. I won't try to use logic to convince you though since you make it clear you ignore that type of thing. I'm sorry, but you are just plain embarrassing.

Those of you trying to judge Tyus based on his stats are missing the point. If you watch a game or two, Tyus makes everyone around him better. That quality is what makes Tyus special.

Where do you think HS stats come from? The Stat Fairy? At the HS level, the team's stats are the official stats. There's no independent statistical service that goes around and compiles its own stats on every HS game in the state. Granted, every team does stats differently. Some have managers keep stats during the game - other teams will break down the game film (assuming they have game film - not everybody does) and do the stats from that.

Yes - stats will vary depending on who is keeping them. But, for the basic shooting stats, those are going to be fairly accurate. Based on my experience, you run into more issues with things like steals, turnovers and assists, because the kids keeping the stats may not understand what constutues an assist, and so forth. (although, I had a nice argument with a girls varsity coach once, trying to explain that when a player is fouled in the act of shooting, that is not counted as a shot attempt - she said it was......)

What's it like being you? Holy crap, this thread is the tops!

If this was a troll attempt, I'd say bravo. Sadly, I don't think it is.

Stats in high school are a little suspect when it comes to things like steals and assists. It's pretty tough to mess up shooting stats. They might mess up a few here and there, but that hardly is going to affect the overall numbers that much. Is there that much of a difference between shooting 44% and 43.4%?

Even if Tyus was a meddling guard at Duke.... That's likely way better than any of the 3 star recruits we typically get. If Tyus was a 4 star rated recruit from Apple Valley, I would want him all the same.

He is the #1 or #2 recruit coming out of Minnesota in 2014, we should/need/want to have him on our squad for the simple fact is that he is good (I'd argue GREAT if not THE BEST PG in the nation at his age group). We are not in a position to pass on people because we think he will be a bust.

If his shooting percentage is low, I don't give a damn. I would love to have a guy that can handle the ball, distribute, run the offence all of the things we harp on Mav about and freshman Andre Hollins about.

Give me a break Moses, you are sippen a bit too much on the hard stuff here.

Yikes just got caught up reading this and here is my two cents...

Stats aside none of us are experts on recruiting no matter what we say. There are professionals who do this for a living and evaluate hundreds of players for years and years. They see stats, they see games, they see video, whatever. These guys have Tyus rated as NUMBER ONE for his class. They have him rated that high for a reason...because he is good.

Could Tyus go to college somewhere and be a bust? Sure. Can we assume that though? Absolutely not!

If this guy is supposed to be a bust all of the professionals who get paid money to evaluate high school basketball players would either A) rate him lower or B) get fired.

Tyus Jones is a great basketball player and anyone who says the Gophers are better off without him for any reason is a complete bust at life.

Moses87 lives 1800 miles away and has only watched highlight videos of him... So there you go...

Here in the metro area, I've watched him play games/tournaments with Howard Pulley, and seen him with Apple Valley, and read local and national scouting reports of his game and his progress.

I can come to a conclusion that he is an elite player? #1? That's another story? An elite talent? For sure!

Moses has to be trolling because no one in their right mind would make such stupid statements.

Moses you are starting to sound like Donald Trump. Stop it man you are embarrassing yourself.

Moses is a 480 volt power tool. When he opens his mouth the lights dim. I have him on ignore and I suggest others do the same.
