Joe Schmitt says its Jerry Kill

Just remember......

Leach would love to coach here.....

Why wouldn't have Kill or Chryst been considered initially if we initially considered Calhoun, Golden and Hoke? How are they worse candidates than those three?

Agreed, not sure what the hell the weakness would be in hiring Kill or Chryst? They'd be considered for every other Big Ten opening cept Michigan and OSU.

KILL HAS HAS WON WITH EVERY TEAM HE HAS COACHED.

I will take those odds.
He breaks the tradition of hiring a sub 500 coach.

I'm praying to my God and yours that this is an intentionally leaked last-minute downer before they announce the actual homerun hire.

Pray with me, boys.

While Kill isn't extremely high on my list, he wouldn't be as bad as people think.

That's my hope as well. I can't see how either of these names are even in play.

Kill is Wacker 2.0

Headlines will read: Maturi Finally Kills Gophers Football Once and for All

Rather than calling for Maturi to be fired I want pretty much everyone in the Minneapolis media fired. Doogie included. What a mess this whole thing has been on their end.

I can't speak for all of the media but Doogie specifically has simply tweeted what he's heard. Considering how air-tight the U and whoever the coach is have been, it's no surprise there were several tips that were wrong. I for one am glad Doogie tweeted what he was hearing, he hasn't 'reported' anything yet.

I realize hiring Chryst or Kill would upset all of us, but don't take it out on one of the few media guys who seems to understand the fans and doesn't belittle them like Reusse and Souhan.

Wacker only had 2 out of 9 winning seasons at TCU.

Not a fair comparison.

Jerry Kill has been my #1 second tier choice behind Harbaugh, Peterson, etc.

All he has done is win at every level.
He has a extremely loyal and experienced staff.
Has been recruiting the midwest for years.

The Gophers will become competitive quickly. No 4 year rebuilding.

What I like about Kill is that he worked his way up from the bottom and has been successful at every step. The guy obviously is a hard worker who knows what he's doing. If he is our next coach I will give him a chance.

Jerry Kill appears to be a very good football coach. Which would be far and away better than the last hire but this is not the kind of shot in the arm this program needs right now.

Can he win here since he won every where else he is been will remain to be seen if in fact he is the choice.

I'd be really effing offended if I'm Tubby Smith: "You're comparing me with THIS GUY?! I won a national f---ing championship!"

Ugh.

The Fresh Prince is pissed off, too.

You're speaking for me today, Greek.

While not a HR, I'm ok with Kill. I like him more than Golden, Fedora, and definitely Sumlin.

As for Chryst, I'm not as anti Chryst as a lot of people. My only beef with that would be why we didn't consider more coordinators from the start and paint ourselves in a corner saying only current head coaches. A lot of good names that are current coordinators could have been a part of this search along with Chryst, such as Malzahn, Smart & Venables.

I think he'll coach 'em up just fine. But does he really look like someone who will steal a lot of recruits from anyone? Nothing about him inspires me in that regard. If so, we'll see Mason-levels at best.

Kill is more like a Punto dive single into first.

3 years of D1 recruiting in the MAC?

Can people calm down, please?

If Kill (until announced, we know nothing), consider a) his record/experience, b) his staff (vast majority have been with him for YEARS), c) at 49 years old, he seems like he could be a long-term hire (if successful)

I love how people are ripping him because he's bald... Would you take Brewster's hair over Kill's coaching record?

Again, step back from the ledge, take a breath, and think about it for a couple hours and just see what happens.

If all we're considering is looks, to me he looks like a skinnier version of Joe Tiller. Would people have been happy with Joe Tiller and his record (including a Rose Bowl)?

He's been my #1 choice too, of all the realistic candidates who might come here. I would be happy if we got him, and wish that people could just try and hold off on prematurely freaking out if we were to hire him. Some of these criticisms of the guy like bagging on his personal appearance are just ridiculous and totally non-relevant.

Do you have a fiddle on hand by any chance?

Joe Tiller was much better looking.

Great. Invoke more anger. ;) The only thing that would make this day better is Bill Smith announcing the new 3 year/$12 million deal for Little Nicky

I'd be okay with Kill is he's getting $250,000 per year on a 2 year contract. Other than that, I'm going to be really disappointed with Macturi bringing in another crappy a$$ Mac coach.
