Joe Schmit's Twitter - Larry Fedora is the visitor today

Iowasucks: I'm pretty sure Rescooter was kidding with that post.

Of all the other candidates, I actually don't feel any indifferent in regards to Fedora positively or negatively either. I'm just saying that I get a strange sense that Vacation Joe & Doogie are slinging sh!t at the potential coach wall and hoping that one of them sticks.

GREAT find - a quick browsing of the So Miss fan pages corroborates that he had a press conference in Hattiesburg this afternoon. There is no way he is in town right now.

What if this press conference was staged like the moon landing?

The story is changing that he has visited. Not that he is currently or recently did visit.

FireDaveLee: If you count people -- coaches/Bierman contacts/agents -- as slinging sh!t, so be it. Trust me: I would rather be right than first. Only passing along credible nuggets.

Coach_MikeLeach Twitter: I'm going to kill a Manatee if I don't get the Miami or Minnesota job.

Don't kill the messenger - I'm only passing along what I read on Twitter.

Hahaha. Good one.

Thanks FDL.

My internet "tongue in cheek" posting needs some work. I'm actually much more funny in person.

Does He Look Better With Headgear?

This was a name I had never heard of so I checked him out on Wikipedia and it sounds like he's sort of a poor man's Mullen. I then google imaged him to see what he looks like, he reminds me of Mac from It's Always Sunny:

Personally, I like this shot of him in a Fedora!

Fedora's recent defensive accomplishments make Mason look like a defensive genious.

Let's face it, the guy's got a GREAT name, and there is so much you could do with that. As someone mentioned earlier, you could have the stands full of fans wearing maroon or gold fedoras, and that would just be cool as hell.

It's not as great a name as Jerry KILL in my opinion, but a good name for a coach nonetheless.

Now as to whether he's a good coach, great coach, average coach, I have no idea.

I know I'm the only Edsall fan around (and it sounds like that won't happen). I can't see why anyone would think Fedora is better than Edsall.

During 2007 to 2010;

Southern Miss is 1-9 (.100) versus AP Top 25 teams
UConn is 7-13 (.350) versus AP Top 25 teams

I know that is only one stat, but it is as apples-to-apples as I can get.

It is what it is. Let's just say that I'm quite hesitant to believe any twitter posts regarding the coaching search.

Very rarley do Conf USA, MAC or Mountian West teams have good defenses. Those conferences generally have high scoring games. any speed they can recruit goes on O.

I think it goes to show that even people who one would think are in the know really don't know either. Everything is secretive or smoke scree.

There are other considerations the U has to keep in mind besides keeping the fans informed, such as how interviews with other coaches would affect their present positions being one.

Common man said on his show about an hour ago that he was announcing Fedora would be the new coach.

In Joe, Doogie's and everyone's defense that's putting stuff out there - I'd rather hear a rumor, and get pieces of info (some true, some not true), than be completely left in the dark. As fans it's our job to sift through it and believe what we want. In all honestly - this is just fun and exciting speculation, don't take anything too seriously or as fact until it's actually announced.

can someone verify the Fedora

weekly press conference? I would like to watch it or see some verification of it. I have been unable to find it but I'm not very good at finding those things.

In other words, Joe and Doogie know as much as my 4 year old daughter. ;)

Speculation is fun though!

I heard that line with Brewster too. I'm not impressed with this guy at all.

I don't think most people would argue that Brewster brought in some good coordinators.

Cosgrove was a terrible choice don't get me wrong. But everyone seems to like Horton, and Mike Dunbar was a big splash with a big contract so we could run the spread.

Then Brewster fired him, against the advice of the Athletic department, and constantly had a revolving door of coordinators.

Dang it. I just blew a half hour on the clock "researching" Larry Fedora for nothing?

Keep in mind that the OP is wrong. The tweet says 95% sure Fedora visited - nothing about today.

I spoke with a reporter who was there. It was at 11:45 a.m.

Maybe he was here yesterday, since Joe Schmit said Fedora "visited" campus. There was a charter flight from MSP-->Hattiesburg around 9:00 last night.

If there's someone different on campus today, then this sounds like a final round of intereviews as someone else pointed out.

YES!!! We've arrived at the flight tracking stage. This is when the searches always turn good

Then we've lowered the bar to the ground for the trained journalists in town. A lot of these aren't being presented as rumors but facts. I wonder if the two papers and Rosen, Perkins, Schmit etc. are really comfortable saying "here's something we've heard and we have no idea whether it's true or not"
I'd rather have something confirmed before it's thrown-out there, particularly if it's a reputable journalist. Hoping for two sources may be asking for too much.

By the way I admired the fact that you threw in the potential for "sour grapes" in your Strib piece. Nicely done.
