Gonna be a fun Insight bowl press conference tomorrow
Maybe Kansas appreciates a coach that can upgrade the talent level of their roster and bring enthusiasm to their program? Maybe their fanbase is willing to wait for said talent to mature and give their coach a chance to succeed.
Schad is reporting that Gill, Holtz Jr., Brewster and Butch Jones are the finalists for the Kansas job. No word on who the sources are and whether the source is Brewster himself or his friends.
I can't believe Kansas would be this foolish. Even making him a finalist looks bad. Maturi will probably pay for the airfare to get him down to interview.
I hate you but this made me burst out laughing.
Well, now what happens if he doesn't get the KU job and doesn't get extended? A friend of mine just brought up a good point - in that scenario, why would/should Brewster expect/be expected to stick around as a lame-duck for another year?
Now, it's almost as if Brewster has to get the job (I think he would succeed down there) or Maturi is going to fire him. In which case, here are guys I hope we would talk to:
Butch Jones (although it wouldn't look good if KU hired Brewster over him, no would it?), Central Michigan
Temple's Coach (can't think of his name, but I'd imagine if he'd leave there for here, he'd probably leave here for somewhere else)
Dan McCarney (form ISU coach and I believe now the Associate Head Coach at Florida)
Glen Caruso - St. Thomas (HUH?!!!)
McCarney would be my top choice.

No way is Kansas stupid enough to hire Brewster. Mark it down.
Al Golden is the Temple Head Coach. Nice resume with Big 10 playing experience at Penn State and a nice college assistant coaching resume.
McCarney wouldn't be a bad choice.
I tend to agree with your basic points. This is going to make it really tough for Brewster to come back in any capacity.
It's really a mess, and disappointing because really, nobody wins here.
All of you that are screaming for Brewster to be gone are flat out idiots. He's not even done with his 3rd season.
This isn't the NFL, there's no free-agency and we have very little money compared to the schools that are at the level we want to be at.
Either way, the people that lose here are us, the fans.
I can't speak for anybody else, but I'm not saying Brewster should be fired based upon his performance. I'm saying Maturi and Brewster have put themselves in this position - if he comes back now, he has to sell himself to recruits that he is in fact committed to the program and not just willing to leave for any job (I wouldn't consider Kansas anything more special than the U of M). How do you do that at this point?
Maturi, not willing to suck it up and extend Brewster for even one more year, essentially encouraged Brewster to look around (and if he didn't expect Brewster to, then he's an idiot).
Negotiating ploy or not, if Brew gets hired at KU I'm sure he will have done so for a significant raise, will not have the same dumpy media to sell to, and is still in a major conference (w/Texas!), and closer to Texas, where he still obviously has ties.
So, if Brewster gets the job, we now have to find a new coach. If he doesn't, we have a coach who clearly pursued an arguably lateral move. What players are going to be willing to committ to someone who they now know for sure isn't going to be here long-term?
Either way, the people that lose here are us, the fans.
A thoughtful and compelling argument. All of you that are screaming for Brewster to be gone are flat out idiots. He's not even done with his 3rd season.

What has happened here falls short of my "cathedral steps" acid test, but it's pretty obvious there is a major breakdown between Brewster and Maturi. Brewster does have to answer to Maturi and if he can't do that, it becomes nearly impossible for anything positive to happen.
