jewhan edwards' twitter sounds like hes leaving

Let's put an end to the following things:

Speculating on a player's future based on his twitter or facebook posts

Referencing Gary Patterson as a reason a player may switch positions

Using the Law of Transitivity as justification that one football team is better than another (i.e. - Since Minnesota beat Iowa and since Iowa beat Michigan, Minnesota is therefore better than Michigan).

Referencing Eric Decker as justification that a local kid deserves a scholly (but Decker was only a 2-star!!!!! Look how goooood he turned out!). Maybe we'll call this Decker's Theorem. It states, if a local kid has a 2-star rating, he is a diamond in the rough and will therefore be great, by Decker's Theorem.

I think there's a couple more, but let's put these into effect immediately.

I know this is in reference to one of my posts but I think misread what I was saying. I said the Gary Patterson made ME think about Lamonte Edwards (big backs being turned into DE under Patterson).

It made me think of Lamonte Edwards because Kill's DE's at Northern Illinois were WR's, S's, QB's, FB's, and HB's in HS, and Jerry Kill talks about wanting to a fast defense and a pass rusher. In no way did I intend to make it come off as "Patterson moves RBs to DE, so should we".

I was looking at a kid who projects at both sides of the ball pretty well, played DE/LB in HS and based on the things that Jerry Kill said he is looking for in a DE, it made me think that Edwards might be a fit at that position as well.

I love all of these except the first one.

Well, as others have said, he's not transferring with one year left. I just don't believe that Jewhan Edwards could possibly think he is ready for the draft. I think he could have a future in the NFL, but he definitely needs another year to work on a lot of things before that will be possible.

JewJEwParty sounds like a old school Washington correspondent, I take whatever he says as unbiased fact! Anything can happen when the Gophers have a Badger as their AD.

hard to blame him for that given the way the weather has been this year up there, though he might want to tough it out for one more year.

He's from Philly, I think. Weather shouldn't be a factor. Maybe he should move somewhere warm, like South Carolina. It's going to be about 15 degrees down there today.

Actually, it is 11 degrees right now. I know, I live in SC.

>>Don't ever let some take ya dreams away form you...its not the end of the world if somthing don't workout...<< >>Been sitting here thinkin all day...and there are some big changes I'm bout to make...and I'm not lookin back...<<

Was Jewhan sitting in the lecture hall when these thoughts came to him?

Or perhaps he took a quick break from studying while at Wilson Library? Ya know, final exams are right around the corner.

Some times, the pressure of Finals week, getting those term papers handed in, finalizing the group project, which constitutes 40% of the class grade, and finishing the assignment due this afternoon can be a source of tremendous stress...and can lead one to throw out a few tweets that don't really mean too much.

Part of the recruiting process should go something like this: 'If you aren't tough enough to handle winter in MN, we don't want you. Elite football players should, by definition, be tougher than 5 million average citizens.'

I said in the coaching search that I didn't want any coach who would be scared off by a tough schedule, and I'll add that I don't want any scholarship football players that are scared off by winter. Frankly, we need tougher people than that playing football for the U.

One more time for good measure: tough.

If these players have dreams of playing in the NFL, they better get used to playing in cold, cold weather. Rarely is a college game in Minnesota played in below freezing temperatures and we have one of the coldest climates in major D1 football.

New England, New York (Jets and Giants), Buffalo, Philly, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincy, Baltimore, Washington, Green Bay, Chicago, and Denver all play cold, cold games in December and January. Heck, the Seahawks played in snow in Seattle 2 years ago and Kansas City isn't exactly the tropics in late December.

It isn't always Miami playing San Diego in the NFL. If you're not tough enough to play outdoors in Minnesota in November and live in the state during the winter, you're not tough enough to play in the NFL. You think going outside today with a coat, hat, and gloves is bad to the point where you're considering leaving as a result? Try one of a number of NFL stadiums in January in a sleeveless jersey.

This isn't completely directed at Edwards because I don't want to read into a FB or twitter post. This is directed at any player or recruit with NFL aspirations that doesn't consider the Gophers because of the weather.

Good luck with that against Wisconsin & Iowa.

Iowa doesn't have that big of an offensive line, it might work out ok against them. That weight is actually not that small and it is pretty much the weight of the Michigan St. D-Line. (255,260 DEs, 285,295 DTs).

The guy is not that good. Let him go.

I don't understand the need to trash the guy. A lot of you talk about not sending a bad message to recruits, what message does it send when you totally sandbag a player when he goes through some doubt during what is doubtlessly a difficult transition period? And for all we know this isn't really about him leaving anyways.

I actually thought Jewhan Edwards was our 2nd best defensive player last season and he was the best player on the field in that Iowa game. He was absolutely mauling the interior of the Iowa offensive line. I'm not going to lose a ton of sleep over losing Edwards but he is a good player and I would expect big things from him next year. If he plays like he did against Iowa, he is our best interior lineman in a long time.

Agreed. It is tough to accurately describe the overreaction that is going on over this. We have NO IDEA what the message meant.

The GopherHole fascination with all things Twitter continues. Pathetic.

Isn't Edwards from PA? Does Minneapolis really get that much more snow?

I for one hope he stays and gets 100 sacks next year.

+1 You guys are being ridiculous.

Man, he's a kid in college sick of studying and getting snowed in. Let him be. I'm glad they didn't have Twitter when I was in school -- I would have had all kinds of ridiculous laments that were much worse than his.

I'll second that. I remember 30 below zero when I attended the U. :pig:

I don't care how good you are, if you don't want to pay the price, then leave and don't let the door hit you. When the goin gets tough the tough get goin!! Still hold true today.
