Payout doesn't really matter since the Big Ten splits all bowl revenue equally, which is a good reason for us all to want tOSU to get into the playoffs. It's more money for all of us.
If we miss out on the Outback and Holiday, I'd rather just end up in Santa Clara I think. Winnable game (likely vs Stanford) and a much, much, much more appealing travel destination than either Jacksonville or Nashville.
I'd much rather go to San Diego or Tampa than Jacksonville. I've been to Jacksonville in early January. It's cold and there's not much to do. The Taxslayer Bowl is nothing special and it ignored the Gophers last year sending us back to Houston. Thanks a lot. The Holiday Bowl has a great history of competitive games (so people watch it) and SD has great weather and fun things to do.I still think the travel thing is over played. I will not go to Nashville or Dallas or any other lesser bowl. Tampa or San Diego are in play with my wife and I.
Outback would be a good result. People have heard of that bowl. I know the TaxSlayer used to be the Gator but the perception to casual fans will be "Well the Gophers got to another 3rd tier bowl game."
Bad luck, some of our own making (Illinois), and politics seem set to punch us in the stomach once again. To me Jacksonville would be a letdown now that it's no longer a January 1 game and anything less like Santa Clara or God forbid Nashville would be a catastrophe. To think we had eyes on Orlando, Tampa, and San Diego, but now seem set to miss all three.
Not to go non- gopher, but if Penn State gets in over Illinois who has a better conference record and beat PSU head-to-head, it will be sad.
Justin Gaard did a pretty good job dispelling this myth on Friday on Bumper to Bumper. Nebraska travels very well during the regular season, but they only seem to travel well to "big" bowl games. The guy who flies charters out of Lincoln couldn't get enough interest last year to book one plane.
Man I hope this is wrong. Us against Auburn could be like Becky against OSU last night. Yikes!

Auburn would seem to be a terrible matchup for Minnesota. They have a back with almost as many yards as Cobb and a similar per rush average and a quarterback who has thrown for 2300 yards while running for almost 800. We appear to have an advantage in passing defense and they give up more big plays but it's not an opponent I'd feel optimistic about.
Out of all of our realistic bowl opponents, Auburn is the team I don't want to play. They are a machine on offense and Nick Marshall is exactly the type of QB we struggle against.
times are a changing, BiG assigns the team to the Bowl, the Bowl no longer gets their pick automatically as in the past, at least that's what we've been told. Phil Steele has us to Holiday and Nebraska to Santa Clara
I just have a feeling we are going to get screwed once again. It's hard not to think that way when it happens almost every time.
They said they weren't interfering
“Unless a contract bowl selects a team that is overexposed because of recent trips to the same bowl or same region, we will not interfere with the bowl’s selection. … Our bowls have the choice, other than the repeat criteria, to select the team that fits their bowl need on an annual basis. In other words, the number of wins, number of losses, head to head, and schedule strength are advisory only.”
What time do we expect to hear where we go?

Kind of stinks as we wanted to start planning (depending on destination).
Oh brother, Foster Farms here we come. Get ready Stanford.
Nebraska fans always travel well.Do most think that Nebraska is ahead of MN in the pecking order? Better record overall and a higher ranking, but a loss to MN head to head. I could see a bowl selection team selecting them off name value. Iowa trumping MN would be a real head scratcher though...

Oh no! 6 hours less!
Not true. Take a look at last year.
