Jerry Palm has tOSU in and TCU out and the Gophers to the Tax Slayer bowl Jan 2nd

I ain't skeered of Auburn.

Payout doesn't really matter since the Big Ten splits all bowl revenue equally, which is a good reason for us all to want tOSU to get into the playoffs. It's more money for all of us.

How nice of Ohio State to pay the bill for the rest of the Big Ten. Kind of like they have been doing for 40 years (them and Michigan). Good for our bottom line.

If we miss out on the Outback and Holiday, I'd rather just end up in Santa Clara I think. Winnable game (likely vs Stanford) and a much, much, much more appealing travel destination than either Jacksonville or Nashville.

As far as a trip goes, I wouldn't mind going to Santa Clara. I could drive down to Monterey and take my daughter to the aquarium. I could also go for a drive in the mountains, and head into the San Joaquin Valley to see how it has changed since I was stationed there in the 80's. Sure, it would be a less desirable bowl, but I could make a good family trip of it. And there would be really good clam chowder and sourdough bread.

I still think the travel thing is over played. I will not go to Nashville or Dallas or any other lesser bowl. Tampa or San Diego are in play with my wife and I.
I'd much rather go to San Diego or Tampa than Jacksonville. I've been to Jacksonville in early January. It's cold and there's not much to do. The Taxslayer Bowl is nothing special and it ignored the Gophers last year sending us back to Houston. Thanks a lot. The Holiday Bowl has a great history of competitive games (so people watch it) and SD has great weather and fun things to do.
The analysts are in disagreement, and none of them really know. They making guesses, like everybody else.

per Rittenberg:

Here are our final, final Big Ten bowl projections for the season:

College Football Playoff semifinal (Rose Bowl Game Presented By Northwestern Mutual or Allstate Sugar Bowl): Ohio State
Capital One Orange: Michigan State
Outback: Minnesota
National University Holiday: Wisconsin
TaxSlayer Bowl/Franklin American Mortgage Music City: Nebraska
Foster Farms: Iowa
New Era Pinstripe: Penn State
Quick Lane: Rutgers
Zaxby's Heart of Dallas: Maryland

Go Gophers!!

Outback would be a good result. People have heard of that bowl. I know the TaxSlayer used to be the Gator but the perception to casual fans will be "Well the Gophers got to another 3rd tier bowl game."

Agree. I don't care if it is Florida and it's in 2015. It's not a premiere bowl and it's a step down from where we thought we should be going. I personally would be disappointed.

Bad luck, some of our own making (Illinois), and politics seem set to punch us in the stomach once again. To me Jacksonville would be a letdown now that it's no longer a January 1 game and anything less like Santa Clara or God forbid Nashville would be a catastrophe. To think we had eyes on Orlando, Tampa, and San Diego, but now seem set to miss all three.

One publication projects Minnesota in the Music City against Texas A&M. I'd rather that outcome than Auburn in the Tax Slayer. The Music City is an alternate to the Tax Slayer (the conference gets either one but not both) so it really isn't a step down in the pecking order.

Not to go non- gopher, but if Penn State gets in over Illinois who has a better conference record and beat PSU head-to-head, it will be sad.

It would be, but some are projecting Illinois to take the place of a Big 12 team in the Armed Forces Bowl against Houston.

Justin Gaard did a pretty good job dispelling this myth on Friday on Bumper to Bumper. Nebraska travels very well during the regular season, but they only seem to travel well to "big" bowl games. The guy who flies charters out of Lincoln couldn't get enough interest last year to book one plane.

Plus we haven't been to a good bowl so it is hard to know how well/poorly we would travel.

Man I hope this is wrong. Us against Auburn could be like Becky against OSU last night. Yikes!

Auburn would seem to be a terrible matchup for Minnesota. They have a back with almost as many yards as Cobb and a similar per rush average and a quarterback who has thrown for 2300 yards while running for almost 800. We appear to have an advantage in passing defense and they give up more big plays but it's not an opponent I'd feel optimistic about.

I just have a feeling we are going to get screwed once again. It's hard not to think that way when it happens almost every time.

Out of all of our realistic bowl opponents, Auburn is the team I don't want to play. They are a machine on offense and Nick Marshall is exactly the type of QB we struggle against.

Imagine the great feeling and great press when MN beats Auburn! Want to be the man? Gotta beat the man! One More Brick!

times are a changing, BiG assigns the team to the Bowl, the Bowl no longer gets their pick automatically as in the past, at least that's what we've been told. Phil Steele has us to Holiday and Nebraska to Santa Clara

They said they weren't interfering

“Unless a contract bowl selects a team that is overexposed because of recent trips to the same bowl or same region, we will not interfere with the bowl’s selection. … Our bowls have the choice, other than the repeat criteria, to select the team that fits their bowl need on an annual basis. In other words, the number of wins, number of losses, head to head, and schedule strength are advisory only.”

Thought that was ironic that was released just this week. Again, like Bowlsby in Big XII, don't CLAIM one thing and then do another. Same goes for CFP Committee. By in large, people appreciate straight
answers IMO.

I think I'd prefer a Minnesota/USC Holiday Bowl matchup to a Minnesota/Auburn TaxSlayer Bowl matchup.

Oh brother, Foster Farms here we come. Get ready Stanford.

Yes, but much better bowl games possibly passing on us this year. Much better than hoping for the Alamo. Only two more wins to completely eliminate chance

Do most think that Nebraska is ahead of MN in the pecking order? Better record overall and a higher ranking, but a loss to MN head to head. I could see a bowl selection team selecting them off name value. Iowa trumping MN would be a real head scratcher though...

Nebraska fans always travel well.

Nebraska fans always travel well.

I could be mistaken, but there was some stats offered that their fans actually have not traveled well unless it is a "bigger" bowl game. While the Holiday or Outback Bowls would be seen as a bigger game for MN fans, my best guess is that it would not be for the Big Red fanbase. Could be totally off though on that...

Oh no! 6 hours less!

Not sure what you meant by this?
I was just speaking for our personal situation as family. For our family, it stinks.
Everyone's situation is different. Obviously, yours is and I will respect that opinion.

Not true. Take a look at last year.

Yep, they had to cancel their only charter flight last year because of lack of interest. With their coach being fired, I just can't see them traveling well again.
