Jeff Wills needs to take a seat

what is the actual point of this thread? just needed "something" to bitch about following a great win and once again some choose to make wills their target? done with this thread.

:horse:

Umm, I hardly call people annoyed with a game that had 16 penalties including 2 false starts by the same player in a row and a delay of game on THE FIRST PLAY OF A DRIVE, 'needing something to bitch about'. This is legitimate criticism, whether the homers think so or not.

BN, I am one of your fans, but Wills was awful today. I am sorry if you want to look past the penalties and consequences, but you are blind if you think everything was copacetic.

its all good. to each his own, i guess. just saying i am done with this thread and don't plan on participating in whatever follows.

that being said i can't be "mad" at a guy who uses the word copasetic -- even if he did spell it incorrectly! ;)

google copacetic and tell me the true spelling...you are digging a hole that takes away from your validity...I try to stick up for you, but you don't make it easy

I'm tired - going to bed... trust me... you're the only one who thinks "Jeff Wills needs to take a seat." Anyone agree with you i'll give you a dollar.

He did get beat quite a bit and has had an inexcusable amount of false starts, seemingly 3 out of 4 of the calls against the line are on ol 71.

First of all, I like Jeff as a player. You can tell he works hard by the way he plays. Now, with that being said. He does not get a free pass. As an olineman, there is NO excuse for jumping off sides. Most the time you are not trusting your feet and you are trying to get a head start on the d-lineman.

I don't think Jeff needs to sit down, but I don't think we need to brag about how good he is playing. There are some people on here who think that because his dad posts on this site Jeff should be first team All-Conference.

With all of that, congrats Jeff. I agree the majority, you are improving every game and I am glad that are at the U. I won't hold the horse collar against you. You should never have to tackle anyone. Work on staying onsides, and go get Illinois next week!

Others who criticized me for being critical of Wills....see, I'm not the only one.

It's inexcusable to take that many penalties, win or lose.

TUBBY YOU ARE THE IDIOT! I too went back and watched the game. Rudy is correct. The whole line moved on the first false start and Wills DID NOT move on the 2nd one. After the thread last week I watched Wills a little closer, and he played pretty well. The whole line pas protected much better.

wills had trouble with false starts

but the spartans have a good front and their best player on the front is trevor anderson...........he is their best pass rusher and playmaker on the d'line

he had half a tackle......didnt get near weber and we put up 42 points

i will take that all day

Once again, trying to argue against stats makes you look like a total fool. Obviously not every play was 2.3 yards, but the law of averages is rarely wrong, especially when it comes to the running game. A nice run by Gray was sprung by a holding, so who knows what happens if Kuznia doesn't tackle the guy? Look at you being hypocritical now....blaming Weber for the 2 sacks he took, but not giving him any credit for the many sacks he evaded by finally stepping up in the pocket and making plays. He finally figured out that Wills is a horrible pass protector and gets burned around the edge every time. Unless he is false starting or holding.

This game was by FAR the best pass protection Weber has gotten all year. He was able to stay in the pocket very often. Also, Schnoodler is correct in that the running game did not do mediocre only on Wills' side. He didn't play a perfect game, but was very far from the brutal status you are giving him, and I dare say he and the rest of the O-line had a pretty good game. Do tell who you think is so much better and should be playing there instead. Thanks.

How, in the same post, can you say "obviously not ever play was 2.3 yards." based off of someone else's post and then say that Wills "gets burned around the edge Every Time"??? Really?? Every time? Did he even get beat once last game? Please tell me when (i watched the game again)... You're making unfair assessments of his play to defend your case. Yes, penalties are bad but could you possibly agree that a couple of them may be bad calls? Watch the last 2 false starts and tell me i'm wrong.

And why Wills? Remember there are 5 guys on the line... So "Wills should take a seat" with a backup worse than he is and the line should be worse than it already is? I just don't get it...

I truly don't care if Wills old man posts on here...JW was awful today. At some point you have to call a spade a spade and he had 4 penalties on the game. He is extremely slow with the first step and continues to get beat in a bull rush situation.

JW gets his school paid for,so it is time that he delivers...regardless of how many soft people post on this board.

This is, by far, the most idiotic post in the history of Gopherhole. Someone who has taken every snap of his Gopher career hasn't been earning his tuition...

Wills had a solid game, as did all of the other O-liners. I am used to such sh*t from this group that I was pretty happy with this "solid" effort.

The Wills penalties were frustrating, but if we're going to call players out , let's start with Stoudermire who scored both a 15 yard personal foul and blew a wide open catch for a TD. Seems he's always right on the verge of a unsportsmanlike conduct call. In his defense too, though, the taunting flag he got was total BS. He didn't even look at the defender after getting up... how could he have taunted him? With his butt?

Maybe he farted?

Personally I think he did an alright job. Theres alot of room for improvement. You seem to bash him alot, Id like you to try one of their conditioning practice, or even play a game and see how you do.

He'll get better. he's already shown improvement and the o-line as a whole played very sound last night. (besides the flags)

Clubber, not sure if you're Club Gopher at GI but if so you have me confused with Bronko Nagurski Gopher here at GH.

I believe he had 3 false start penalties. Of the three, he and only he jumped on one play, Carufel and Wills both jumped on one play, and he didn't jump on the 3rd--I have no idea why they threw a flag but I rewatched the play 3 times and nobody jumped.

One I'm pretty sure was a late snap, the one where both he and carfel moved, I though i saw another go too, and another the ghost call. So really one call the whole game that was probably his alone.

Dumb thread of the season. Blame the guy when he deserves it - give him credit when he earns it. Wills had only one jump yesterday. The others didn't belong on his shoulders. Furthermore, and most importantly, MSU's top rusher never got to Weber. Not once. Generally, he wasn't even close. MSU even loaded the left side of their line a couple of times to try to confuse our OL assignments - and it didn't work. Wills far outplayed his competition - yesterday.

Nice game, Jeff.

I don't care if his dad reads these posts. Jeff Wills is struggling and needs to sit for at least a series. How bad is the back up?!

If he was struggling, sure. But he's not, he's doing very well as of late.

You're right, I know nothing about football so I started a thread like this. I'm clearly blind and couldn't see the many times he got burned, and all his false starts. .

So you are saying you need glasses??

Imagine that we lose the game yesterday...

Everyone would be ripping him as well as other players/coaches. Just because we won doesn't mean everyone was amazing. He (and the team) looked better, but better than what?? Better than 0 points at Penn St, better than getting blown out at OSU.

It's too bad a guy gets penalized and has his name dragged through the mud for essentially being the quickest guy off the snap count on the entire line. That's what happened when I reviewed a couple of his penalties frame by frame on the DVR. In reality, our center needs to be quicker with snapping the ball.

This argument is tiresome and morover makes absolutely no sense. Nobody on the board is saying "I could do a better job than Wills." I'd get killed if I lined up on the O-Line. But I'm Not a D-I Football Player. He is, and people want him to do better to help the team.

I'm sure practices are tough and I have no doubt he works hard. But the arguments of "he gives it his all," and "let's see you would do" are dumb. I'm fairly certain there are many other players working just as hard on the team.

How would Jeff Wills do at:
1) Being an Olympic Sprinter
2) Taking over someone's job as a stockbroker on wall St.
3) Stepping in and raising someone's three kids
4) Being the mayor of a city
5) Competing in a curling competition

I could go on and on. He probably wouldn't do as good of a job as the people already doing those things, just like most of us would not do as good as Wills on the line.

He needs to play better and people are simply pointing it out.

The kid is like 14, give him a break he's kind of an idiot. You people need to relax and stop just defending him because someone who may or may not be their parent made a post. He was terrible again last night. The unit as a whole having a good game does not excuse his poor play. He needs to improve and I'll be cheering for him but right now I don't see why you wouldn't give someone else a chance blows my mind. Everyone pointing to the not giving up many sacks or pressures yesterday and are downplaying the penalties...you need to understand that a lot of times a penalty is just as bad as a sack. Thanks.

Everybody always needs to do better.

Who doesn't need to do better?

The OP stated that he was lousy and needed to be benched. He was not lousy and does not need to be benched.

The point of the viewpoint you just trashed Josh isn't so much that us fat asses couldn't do as well as Jeff, as much as it it that there's alot more to it than meets the eye. He stated he thought he did alright, meaning not lousy. And that he believes the effort is there to improve.
