Ha ha!! Nope, I didn't. You are right on final standings. Ok, they tied for 7th place during the regular season (which is AWESOME, as everyone knows, especially with the best team he's ever had here) and were the 9th seed in the Big Ten tournament.

And they lost to Northwestern, AGAIN.

Wonder who will transfer this year.

Can we put the "fire Tubby" stuff on hold for now? I'd rather focus on the tournament and hope we get some wins and our seniors go out on a high note. Hopefully Tubby retires afterward, but until then let's enjoy some basketball.

Which part of "seed does not equal standing" did you not get? Do you have a learning disability or are you being willfully obtuse? Again, lying to push your agenda doesn't help anything and only makes your argument weaker. If you have to lie, it makes your entire agenda look suspect.

Word. It's a new season starting now. Everybody is back on a level playing field. We may not win one game, we may win a few games. Why don't we pick this conversation back up after we are out.

Due respect, the title of the thread is "I think Tubby Smith is gonna be gone." It stands to reason that discussion is about whether or not that is or should be the case.

I've made no value statements of any kind. Sorry. I'm looking to enforce dissemination of factual information. The fact is that the Gophers finished 7th in the Big Ten this year, not 9th. Is lying part of your Christian ethics?

It's not a "lie" (even if you are technically correct). You have corrected the record. They were, however, the 9th seed in the tournament, which means that based upon some criteria, they were the 9th best team in the conference (which, of course, you know was our point).

We get your point, but it would be a much better point if we were tied for SECOND with 2 other teams, one game behind the champion. As it is, we have yet another losing conference record with the Hall of Fame coach. Nice guy and everything. It's not working and I see no evidence that it ever will.

I hope he proves me wrong over the next 2 weeks.

I didn't say people were straying off topic of the thread. I'm aware of the thread title. Was just suggesting we put this topic on hold so we can enjoy the tournament.

No, I didn't know that was your point. If that was your point, why didn't you just say "the Gophers were the 9th-best team in the conference this year"? That's an opinion-based statement. Saying "the Gophers finished in 9th place in the conference this year" is a fact-based statement, and one that is demonstrably false.

Isn't that kind of like burying your head in the sand? It's a valid point of discussion on both the local and national level.

GOTR, my deal is that I am completely conflicted. Of course I want the Gophers to make the Final Four this year and every year. But I also sure as hell don't want a two game winning streak (to put us at, what, 5-30 over the past 2 months?), to result in the retention of Tubby. Sorry.

Note to DPO: Past 2 month record exaggerated for effect. This technique is often used during arguments to be ridiculous to illustrate a point more effectively using humor. Results may vary. Actual record over the past 2 months, including 2 wins in 2013 NCAA Men's basketball tournament, plus a loss in the Sweet 16 can be calculated accurately using records stored on "internet." :)

Not saying it isn't a valid point of discussion. It certainly is. It's just a shame that it's our biggest focus when we're about to start the NCAA tournament. Was hoping we could shift our focus to that for now and then get back to Tubby's fate when the tournament ends. I realize that probably won't happen though.

Saying that we finished in 9th place is lying.

Again - do you genuinely understand the difference, or is there some sort of disconnect in your brain?

It is a shame. It's a damn shame. Don't finish with the 9th **********************SEED****************************** in the Big Ten tournament with the best team you've had here, collapse in February each of the past THREE YEARS and it wouldn't be.

Let us concede that the Gophers finished 8-10 in the Big Ten during the regular season, good for A THREE-WAY TIE FOR 7th PLACE. Does that sound good to anyone? Why is this being argued? It was a highly disappointing season. Period.

We finished as the 9th seed in the conference. Why beat this to death? I know you like to "keep it real" Dpoll, but sometimes it can go on too long.
