@DarrenWolfson: Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanCBS): "I think Tubby Smith is gonna be gone." Entertaining podcast with @TheBigLead: http://t.co/Fw6vJtBJm2 #gophers

@1500ESPN_Reusse: Jeff Goodman from CBS Sports saying the Tubster is gone.

Wow OMG Goodman says Tubby's going to be gone never would have expected it!

Goodman and Reusse - a couple idiots!

His quote about Mbakwe was definitely stupid and you may not like him predicting Tubby will be gone (even though many people are doing the same), but you really shouldn't put Goodman and Reusse in the same sentence. Goodman is 100 times better than Reusse and much more professional.

I have read some of Goodman's stuff...sorry...he's just a notch below a Reusse. Hey - People can predict all they want...Tubby is going nowhere.

Mark Rosen's comment tonight at 6 and 10 was 'a person close to the program said Tubby had to win two games in the ncaa, and maybe that wouldn't be enough to keep his job.' Some mention of players who transfered and did well at new school.

The only problem with "people close to the program" is that could include you and me. We go to games, maybe sometimes on the road, so we are "close to the program" and have no more information than Goodman or Rosen. This is meaningless gossip. If his bosses think he should be gone, he will be gone. If not, then he won't. If they are doing their jobs, they have been examining issues related to the program that go beyond wins and losses and will make their decisions on that and not solely on the outcome of the next couple of games.

Whatever they do, they need to do quickly and make it clear to the fanbase, the university community and potential recruits.

LOL - Rosen...The fools that said a good source of his said Mauer would be back playing for the Twins when he had his knee problems. Mauer did not play for another two months. Rosen looked like an @ss. He had great sources!!!

If he fires Tubby after winning a tournament game and then gives Kill a raise he's going to look terrible to most people.

Rosen is one guy who normally doesn't throw stuff out there. Interesting.

^This.

Heard him say same on KFAN today. Once the BB season is done I think we will be surprised - at how fast things go - either that he's gone, or he's back with some strings (assuming a S16-type run).

Yes, it seems like we have an AD now that has a plan. Refreshing, isn't it?

The problem is with the strings. Very unlikely those become public, and they become fodder for gossip and are detrimental to the program. My guess is that he agrees to the "strings" and stays, or he does not agree to the "strings" and he goes. If he makes the Sweet 16 and there is an appearance that he was fired, The U gets bashed from coast to coast. If he makes the Sweet 16 and chooses to leave for something else, all is good for him and the program is less damaged. I think everyone knows that this has to go fast. No dawdling allowed. The gossip cannot be helpful, and it only gets perpetuated if there is not a decision quickly.

Rosen was one of those saying that this team doesn't deserve to be in the tournament....for those keeping track.

Goodman's comments on Trevor were actually in December, making them all the more strange.

Nonetheless this Minnesota / UCLA game features two veteran coaches with nice contracts and large buyouts who aren't in comfortable positions.

I predict either we will beat UCLA or Ben Howland will be our next coach.

I can't see Tubby going if he makes a Sweet 16. If he doesn't and we fire him, I think this is, coincidentally, the off season to go after Shaka Smart. The Atlantic 10 is being raided by the new Big East and VCU is stuck on the outside looking in. They will be remaining in the Atlantic 10 without the likes of Butler and Xavier (maybe even St. Louis and a 4th team as well), making that conference much weaker and less appealing. So maybe Teague can convince Smart to re-team with him. It probably depends on what other jobs open up, if Howland was fired I could see UCLA throwing everything they have at Shaka too.

That must mean he dislikes the Gophers! Haha

Or he is clueless about the selection process and believes it is far more arbitrary than it really is. Say what you want about the committee, but they have criteria they work with and have been incredibly consistent over the last several years with it. The system is just short of a mathematical formula now, allowing anyone who follows the game to have clear insight into what will happen on Selection Sunday. It may show that Rosen is not actually following the game and comparing 2013 to 1989, which works in few areas, including college basketball.

The media drones have a right to an opinion, but they also have a responsibility to know what is going on and make that opinion a well formed one. The Gophers ended badly, but they did earn their place in the tournament. No one gave it to them unjustly. For Marky to say otherwise is simply not accurate and not fair to this team.

Goodman. doogie, patty are 3 stooges who make a living off of the rubes who take them seriously

Disagree. Fair or not, people have higher expectations for the basketball team right now and Teague is a big basketball guy. IMO, they will be paying a lot of attention to the basketball program and making sure it does well.

Goodman has also said his opinion on Tubby being on a very hot seat comes from outside information, not just him guessing.

As much as Parski would hate to admit it, the fact Tubby is on the hot seat seems to be very real.

I think another big comparison point is that Kill is still playing with mostly Brewster recruits. Tubby has had time to clear out all of Monson's players and has entirely Tubby-recruited players on his roster. I think the hope and assumption is still alive that once Kill has players who he picked to fit his system, things will be better. Conversely, Tubby's seasons after getting rid of all of the Monson recruits have not been appreciatively better than his seasons playing with Monson's teams, so that leads to the question of what is going to change.
