Isaiah Gentry, the 6-4 wide receiver from Cincinnati Moeller High School, verbally committed to the Gophers last night. He is expected to sign his National Letter of Intent on February 5.

What a couple days for the Gophers. To grab Holland and now Gentry at the end of the process is huge for this team. The staff obviously knew (like most people) they needed play-makers and appear to have secured a couple of good ones.

If they can secure Jones this offense will be getting a huge injection of athleticism.
 

Shama is either leaking out something he's not supposed to or he's wrong. Gentry has not announced & none of the recruiting services have announced it.

this isn't the type of thine he would make up. it's not like gentry is a huge name, so he probably was told by a football coach that he committed last night to kill during the in-home and ran with it. the coach may not have known that the formal announcement was coming later today or he may not have told shama. either way, welcome aboard! two great WR additions this week.

I'm excited about Gentry as well but let's slow our roll a little bit here. We just beat out Kent State for a kid. If that's all it takes to turn into a great team it'd be done a lot more often.

If a 5.7 is 3 star, 5.8 is 4 star, I will go with 5.8, if for no other reason than to make him look like a 4 star get.

It sounds like the staff was going to quiet and let him announce it today. They just shouldn't have told Shama, who either didn't care & was desperate for a scoop, or screwed the pooch. Either way, welcome aboard Isaiah Gentry!!
 

Gentry reminds me of a poor man's Randy Moss. Lot's of upside. I don't expect him to be an immediate impact player like Holland though as he's not as physically ready to block in the B1G. Give him a couple years.
 

Maybe the people who have been worried that the Gophers won't be able to throw the ball next year can relax a little. Two Wide Outs with other options committing to the Gophers don't seem worried about it.

Yeah that really sucks! I tweeted at Shama that he should have let the kid announce his commitment, for gods sake it's one of the bigger decisions/moments in life taken away by an itchy trigger fingered reporter!
 

Interesting post at GI by Rivals.Com Midwest Regional guy Josh Helmholdt. Says he watched all the top WR's in Ohio last year including Kief (Alabama commit) & Snodgrass (Kentucky commit) & Gentry is better than them all. Compares him to Penn St's Allen Robinson in terms of being a late bloomer & future potential. Says he didn't get big offers because he didn't blow up until his Sr year. I'd add he didn't have the grades/test score either until a couple weeks ago, which also probably limited interest in him.

Hard to coach up height and length.

These last two commits along with our other options are going to be tough to cover. One nice thing about Mitch is that he is taller also and he will be able to find guys like Gentry over our o-line.
