Shaka grew up in B1G country....no?
That was a reference to the John Wooden story, not that Shaka hates snow/cold weather.

Well aren't you an angry fellow now that Tubby has been fired. We've known all along that you were a Tubby over Gophers fan, but you bashing our program is just as bad as those bashing Tubby.
I agree, UCLA may be the most attractive job on paper, but you have no idea what factors are important to Mr. Smart. Maybe he prefers the midwest over LA? Maybe who his boss is is the most important thing to him? No one has any idea. People leave/take jobs for all kinds of reasons. College coaches are no different.
What is the common manta ... people dont leave jobs, they leave bosses. I assume you could turn that around to, people to take jobs, they take bosses.
Maybe VCU has already begun the search to replace him.
No because at this time last year Tubby was getting an extension. I wish we could conclude that though! If this story is true. Makes you wonder if this was possibly NT and Shaka's plan all along? Barring some huge Tubby run, he would bring Shaka here. Could this be why Shaka turned down those other jobs? Waiting for NT to call?

Is anyone else worried about some freak snow storm coming out of nowhere and delaying the arrival of Shaka to Minnesota...only to see him pick UCLA and then win 7 consecutive NCAA titles. would be great to see MN finally get the better of UCLA.
I'm in! In order my coaching list would be: Shaka, Buzz Williams, Flip, Greg Marshall. I'd be happy with any of the 4.If Shaka Smart does not take the Gopher BB job, then hire Gregg Marshall from Wichita State!!
If you have read my posts for the last 2 months, I always said that Tubby will be gone at the end of this season. I also wished that he did retire last year. He made so many mistakes and had so much of bad luck. His 2010 team could have been the best team in the history of this school. That team was so deep that nobody could beat if Trevor and Royce played. Al Nolan's grades was another one that should been monitored by the coaches. I hope that both Tubby and UofM will learn from this. Firing Tubby was not a good idea without having a good facility. There Highschools that have better court that UofM. Players only will come here is there is a big name coach but I don't that happening. UofM will be at the bottom of B1G for the next 5 years at least.

Shaka played high school ball in Wisconsin....no?
I agree that Tubby's 2010 team could have been spectacular, and I'm very sad by how this turned out. I wish some of his assistants would have been fired. I don't think Jirsa or Saul did much of anything here. However, as sad as I am about it, it's time to move on. Hopefully Tubby lands on his feet.
Very true. By the way, you all, sorry for all the spelling and gramer mistakes.
All the best to you all. I am back to cheer for my Belmont, MTSU, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Tubby's next school. It was great watching UofM basketball for the past 6 years. I will read the news but done with this borad. I will always cheer for you against Bo Ryan and his teams.

This whole thread is a joke and I hope nobody gets their hopes up because of this. Jmag is flat out making this up. I will NEVER believe that Shaka would tell anyone he accepted the Minnesota job before Tubby was even canned....Coaches are a fraternity and they are more diplomatic and careful than that.
Could Shaka still be the coach. Yes, but did he agree to it tell other schools before Tubby had even lost to Florida...NO CHANCE!
You're more than welcome to believe whatever you want. I could be wrong. But the guy who told me is somebody I trust, and that I know to be plugged in to a different program. But, if I'm wrong on this, trust me, I'll take my medicine.

Admittedly, I am more plugged in on the Football side. So, take what I'm about to say for what's is worth.
I've heard from a very reliable "Football Donor," that Teague had made the decision to FIRE Tubby during the middle of the season.
In a nut shell they reached out to Smart (earlier this season) and now there is a 90% chance that he is our new coach within the next 48 hours. I was also told that they are not even thinking about Flip. Which I am pretty disappointed about and previously among my own speculation thought would be the coach.
Our guy will more than likely according to my football guy be Shaka Smart. Please don't rip me too much (I'm a football guy) and I just thought i pass along this info
I hope we both turn out to be right. I have some doubts about how Shaka's system would translate, but he seems like an energetic young guy, and I'd be very happy to see him get the job.
Thanks to both of you for your input!
As to concerns I've seen throughout the board about Shaka's system, I'd like to think a bright, young coach could make adjustments to translate to a different style of play. One of my biggest issues with Tubby was his stubbornness and lack of ability to adapt and make adjustments (both in-game and season-to-season). Whether it's Smart or not, I'd like to think our next coach will be able to handle on-the-court adversity a little better.
I expect a late March blizzard to take out all cell phone towers causing Smart to go to UCLA instead.

Hopefully Teague and Shaka both have iPhone or iPads so that iMessenger still works with wifi. Or maybe Microsoft Link?
I have a passenger pigeon for rent by the hour.
Smoke signals. Send a horseman too in case of fog.
Yeah well I've got Harry potters owl.
