If true, more proof of a split in the team

Formo, what are you a two year old.

If he is two. He is posting on the internet and making you look bad an argument about maturity. I'd probably rethink my I'm older then you angle. Otherwise you are getting owned by someone that probably can't even make it to the potty without help.

Formo, what are you a two year old. These are adults that are putting a huge amount of time and effort into something that isn't working out. Forcing an individual that is frustrated, tired, and angry to stand in the end zone and sing a song is demeaning and wrong. If he doesn't want to do it he should not have to do it period. Let's grow up about the whole thing. He should not have been suspended. It has nothing to do with being a fan. Besides having the team stand in the end zone and sing the rouser does nothing for me and probably the majority of the fans. If that is why I enjoy college football I would give it up.

It's about the commitment, energy, and effort on the field, believe me, doing the rouser adds nothing to it.

I'll ask you again, why have any rules then? Why should any players be forced to run laps in practice or go to class?

I had a terrible day at work yesterday. I was so mad and frustrated on my drive home. Can you believe that I had to sit at a stop light for 2 whole minutes on the way home? It was so demeaning and wrong!!!

LOL.

Sing the rouser it's not a big deal. Your getting a free education. Even after a loss is that too much to ask?

Kirksey may have handled it the wrong way, but singing the fight song after you have just put up no fight whatsoever is really stupid. Sing it when you win and get off when you don't. Nobody is listening when you lose.
At this time of the year, one would think a coach would try to make the end of the season a little less ridiculous and painful. Horton needs to put a bullet in that one.

Isn't it Hail! Minnesota we're talking about?

There is a significant symbolic difference between the Rouser and Hail! Minnesota that should be obvious.

Agreed. I honestly don't know what song is supposed to be sung, but just sing the darn thing. Is that too much to ask of a student-athlete?

If the U football program is ever going to return from the wilderness,

Sounds like we need Moses A. at QB to lead us to the edge of the promised land, and Josh Huepel at O- coord. to get us over the edge.

Jovs- put down the shovel.

I think you all missed the point. Captain Kirskey and other defensive players did leave the field. The cardinal team rule is what goes on in here stays in here. Weber talked to the media about the issue and he shouldn't have. Having broken the locker room code, he got the earful from Kirksey and a helmet. I don't know about any Gopher team rules, but singing not signing along is a one game suspension, Then rating out a team mate and fellow Captain get's what?

If the fact are true Adam should have been sat down his violation of the locker rooom is a much greater issue than not signing. But no, he is the answer. Kirksey is the problem.

I personally would follow Kirksey and his defense of the code.

I can't believe we are debating the "if's" in here, but you are missing a huge key in this puzzle.

The team once already walked off the field. The coach that all these kids signed up to play for and gave the blessing of captain to the players vowed this would never happen again. And once the cat left the barnyard (well got kicked out) the mice are trying to run the show.

However these are all "if" scenarios, and sound really silly to try to type out and debate.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. It has been about 40 years of wilderness wondering. Maybe Moses A. is the guy.

didn't kirksey know that he was coming to the big ten? perhaps if he doesn't want to lose by 40+ points, he might want to get to the quarterback a time or two.

it seems like his energy would be better spent leading the defense, rather than tossing helmets and having temper tantrums.

in the nfl, players get 'thrown under the bus' all the time (not that that is what i believe happened here). if the guy wants to play the sport for a living, he might want to learn to handle adversity.

one thing is certain, as diehard said, i am glad the brewster tenure is over x100.

Players usually don't get thrown under the bus by other players, nor do they get thrown under the bus by coaches at successful programs

Kirksey, a Captain refused to sing the Rouser & instead walked off the field against coaches orders? Then he threw his helmet at another Weber, another Captain for calling him on his behavior? I suppose Kirksey had a lot of QB anger to get off his chest since that was the closest he'd been to a QB all season.

* Losing brings out thew worst in everyone.

Weber's performance has been a problem. No doubt. The D has been an even larger problem, by a bunch. Starting with the D line. No run stoppers. No pass rush. Kirksey needs a mirror. BTW, I still think Kirksey can be a very good player next year. Can be.

I look forward to Parish moving the O up and down the field with our trio of '10 RBs leading the way. Our receiving corps will be pretty good as well. Really. Get that OL squared away.

Yea, they sing Hail! Minnesota (the alma mater) with the student section after games not the Rouser (fight song). I'm beginning to think some of the folks posting on this don't go to games, go but aren't members of the Bitter End Club, or go to games but are in such a trance by the end of the game that they can't tell the difference.

The way some of you write about Adam Weber, a record-setting local player who had other options and is the son of a former Gopher, who has endured three head coaches, five o-coordinators, not one Big Ten quality running back his entire career, some very bad offensive line play, a three time captain, a great spokesperson for the University and the football team, already graduated, makes one wonder if MN kids are truly are better off going to Iowa, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, etc. Is he the Golden Boy? He should be.

blah, blah, blah. We would have been better off had Weber gone to one of those institutions. Four years of this self-absorbed pseudo QB have been enough for me and probably for a good share of the team as well. Still, Kirksey and every other player needs to live up to the U's traditions. Regarding Brewster and playing time: Failing to yank players off the field and chew them out (translate as "set the bar higher") has no doubt led to a team that doesn't believe in consequences.

A good hire of a quality coach will cause the players to look with some hope and not at each other.

jovs, get outta here. You aren't a fan of the Gophers, its obvious. So WTF are you doing here?

cjcarter: Seriously? Just more proof that haters will look for ANYTHING to rip on a guy. Weber could probably have taken a different avenue about the incident but what he did was far from wrong.

gopherdudepart2: Wait. Did you just say that the reason we are 1-9 is because of QB play and split locker room? Nice how you threw defensive stuff right afterwards to justify your 'arguement' as soon as someone pointed out how false your statement is. QB play is far from the reason we are 1-9. Maybe a lack of a REAL run game (read: better play calling and better, bigger talent at the RB position) is a more legitimate excuse than QB play.

Good God, some of ya'll can't look at the sport objectively, can you?? I get that many of you hate Weber's play and want him to be benched. But to look for any more reasons outside of his play (which is mediocre, probably one of the few bright spots on this year's team) to validate your arguments against him is obviously biased.

In this situation, Kirksey is far more at fault than Weber is. Even though Web should have handled himself differently.

+1

Everybody needs to calm down. The season is a matter of fact and nothing can change it. Mr Kirksey needs to keep it in perspective. Admirable to want to win. Not so admirable to want to link the field of play to victories and not to the U as a whole. I love the U. I have known the words to Hail Minnesota since before I pledged DKE. The school should live on after football. The football program is one that right now may need to be interred.
