I haven't seen him play since high school. He was about 6'7" 225 then. He was an athlete who dominated the glass. He was a good shotblocker. He didnt have many post moves just jumped over people. He reminded me of Johnnie Gilbert. How much better is he now? I've heard he is about 6'8" in shoes and closer to 245 now.

Is his low side Johnnie Gilbert? What is his upside? Any comparable players? Trevor Booker? Gary Trent?

How about Courtney James?

That'd be nice.

Based on what I've read here and elsewhere, he was the best college player in Pulley League games this summer. Improved scoring skills to go with his rebounding and defense.

Anything resembling Courtney would be fantastic

Good call on Courtney James. If Trevor turns out to be another Courtney (minus the phonebook & the "A" grade on his PMS paper courtesy of Jan Gangelhoff), I will be more than pleased. We haven't had a power forward of his ilk (Big Ten body, strong, good hands, crashes the boards, does grunt work without having to be "the man") since his departure.

His biggest strengh, from what I have heard, is his plain athleticism he is bigger than Rodney and slightly taller, but with a rumored HIGHER verticle. He is not just a big man who uses his body. He seems to be a big man who can use his body, but also has athleticism.

I have never seen him play in person (although my college roomate got dunked on by him in high school), But I would imagine he is a more physical Josh Smith type player. Maybe similar (game wise) to Dwight Howard. Not really show what his jump shot / handles look like these days though.

reminds me of shawn kemps athletic ability with paul milsap's game

You combine the athleticism of Shawn Kemp with the work ethic of Paul Milsap and you have Olajuwon!! Ill take Courtney James as a former gopher also. So stat wise you could say 8-10pts, 8-10 reb, 2 blks a game this year? We could lead college basketball in blocks? Iverson, Sampson, Trevor, and Rodney.

Off topic reply. I saw Josh's Dad - Walter (Pete) Smith - play as 6-5 freshman at Univ of Cincy in 1967 before he dropped out of school. His Dad was a very talented forward as UC frosh.

actaully surprisingly at HP trevor showed a nice looking mid range stroke a couple of times, didnt shoot much but when he did it was cash, i predict 13 ppg, 10 rebounds, 2.5 blocks a game

Realistic numbers?

I think for Mbakwe we have to remember he has not played at the D-1 level in a long time and when he did he was on a very different team. If we are looking at pure stats I dont think Mbakwe is going to be some outstanding box score filler other than maybe shot blocking it just doesnt seem to be the Tubby Smith way.

If he can score 6-10 points, 6-8 rebounds, and block over a shot a game its going to be a good season for him. Iverson, Sampson, and Mbakwe are going to be rotating in and out of the lineup plus we have shown the willingness to play small at times which could take some of those minutes from all of our post players. I think anyone hoping for 13 points and 10 boards per game might be let down in the end. Heck if he does that it will be his only year in a Gopher uniform because he will be trying for the NBA.

Many people say he IS trying for the NBA and WILL be going pro after this year ...

I would agree with those numbers. He shot a very high free-throw percentage, which was good to see.

i give him those numbers because hes physically superior to every PF in the big ten besides sullinger and lauderdale, but hes too fast for them, plus hes got all that pent up anger and energy over this ordeal, and he wants to prove something. hes got a chip on his shoulder

Trevor Mbakwe danced for MTSU and has an incredibly high tolerance for high levels of September humidity.

haha great stuff, I heard trevor mbakwe can outjump a f15 fighter jet with a torn acl, and also that micheal jordan has a picture of him above the cross over his bed.

Trevor Mbakwe single-handedly ended apartheid and is a past president of South Africa.

He, much like the weather in Tennessee, also defies the law of averages.

Trevor Mbakwe turned down an offer on the expendables because he didnt want to act in a chick flick

Trevor Mbakwe sat out on purpose last year because he didnt want to accidentally kill jajuan johnson by touching him

Trevor doesn't have a watch, he decides what time it is.

Trevor doesn't read books, he stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

At museums, Trevor is allowed to touch the art.

Russia decided to end communism and scale back their nukes because the U.S. had Trevor Mbakwe
Its been said Naismith created basketball in Trevor's image

If he were to punch you in the face, you’d have to fight off the urge to thank him.

oh maybe not on that one...

Trevor once had an awkward moment, just to see what it was like.
