It starts tomm morning with many gopher recruits playing this year.

i wish i could make it down there for tyus vs brainerd at 10 am. would love to see alex and reid play as well but i am headed to vegas tomm.

Hope someone will post tv and games times of the Gopher recruits. Thanks.

No TV today or even streaming on Prep45.com. I would love to see the games being broadcast today for the quarterfinals of the 4A or 3A games, but sadly you'd have to take off work to watch them. Here's to hoping that the Gopher recruits all win their first games today so that we can watch them on Thursday/Friday on Ch. 45 or Prep45.com.

Troube for Tyus?

Tied with Brainerd at 56 with 7:20 to play

It was tied at 56 with 7:20 to go, but then AV had a 15-2 surge and it was all over but the paperwork. Brainerd ran out of gas at the end.

Eden Prairie smothered Woodbury, but Grant Schaeffer went on another tear in the second half to dispose of the Royals.

Park Center-Lakeville North to go at around 2.

As an Apple Valley alum pulling for Tyus and the Eagles to get it done this season. Brainard gave them a good battle but in the end just didn't have enough to pull it out at the end. Should be fun to see how it all plays out.

Why do they use the Target Center over Williams Arena for the final games of state? I know they use Williams Arena for some of the first round games, but all the semifinals and championships are at the Target Center.

Not 100% sure, but has something to do with MSHSL contract. Back years ago it was always at the St Paul Civic Center. A political thing going on. My dad was on the MSHSL board and always fought to get most of the games and especially the championship games at Williams. Never happened. His thought has always been what a great promotion of the U and a great way to help recruiting for the U. Kids love the atmosphere, and the Barn just a great feel about it to watch basketball. It is kinda a shame that not more games are played there.

The past few years the first few rows of seats behind both baskets at Target Center are pulled. Can't have too many fans too close to the action - I guess. Not only does it look very weird on TV, but it also hurts the atmosphere during the games. Another 'head-shaker' by the powers that be.

The MSHSL likes the hockey venue for state so they can keep people away from the court, give TV a place to set up close to the action, and control where fans and bands are. It works logistically for them. Women B1G tourney had a similar set up this year.

Woodward with 40 on 16-24 shooting as Edina romps Andover by 38. Don't need small guards who can shoot though :)

In really think he's going to be a nice college player.

I do too! I know he is tiny but if we offer tyler ulis, I think Woodward should have received an offer as well. Appears to be a good kid on And off the court, great leader, good student, and overall what Gopher basketball should embody.

Yeah, I do too. I'm not one of those guys who complains about Tubby not offering every kid who puts up big numbers in the state of MN, but Woodward is really impressive. He will never be really high ranked, but he can play.

BTW: Reid Travis is playing right now on TV (whatever station you have).

Anders has a very quiet 17 points, Lakeview getting beat up by Rushford-Peterson 51-30 with 14 minutes to go.

I am a near life-long attendee of the state basketball tournament. I have long been amazed by the MSHL's war on its own tournament. It takes extra creativity to pull seats at the target center to make it an awful venue to watch a basketball game. I started going to the tournament back in the early 80's when it was two classes. All I ever heard then was how much better it was at Williams Arena when it was only one class. But, it was still a very fun tournament in the 80's. St. Paul makes for a very nice host city (its scale seems to better fit HS tournaments), and Williams Arena is even better when games are held there. Somehow, Minneapolis just doesn't feel like a good fit for the basketball tournament. It is too big. And all that is even before you step foot in the arena, to find black cloth hanging in front of the closest seats hanging in the air back above the court.

I realize that some of the problems are out of the MSHSL's hands. Open enrollement and private schools have resulted in all-star teams. The Genie is out of the bottle. And as a result the only thing the MSHSL can think of to deal with it is add more classes, which have a way of giving further advantages to private schools where their all star teams can play down in lower classes thanks to the only criteria usually used for class assignment: enrollement. Things like the head scratching Target Center seating layout for the tournament just seem to be done for good measure to make it the most uncomfortable sporting event one can attend.

I've been to my share of 4-class tournament games and although it all is worse than the way it used to be, games in Williams arena still are the best. I've gone to the Target Center each of the last two years and it has been painful to be there. I went to the hockey tournament for the first time this year and although hockey has some problems of its own... it shows 2 classes are still small enough for fans to care. I may have to give up completely on the bball tournament going forward.

You forget how riotous the fans from SW MN Christian can be. If you let them sit within 50 feet of the court, they would burn Minneapolis to the ground.

In regards to the class issue, I think we just have a naming issue. If DeLaSalle and Austin don't want to compete for the state title, fine, just don't call their championship a state title. Call it the lower division, tier 2, JV, whatever, just don't call it the "State Championship". Might also try automatically promoting the lower division champ up a division the next year, and only let them go back down when they lose in the first round of sections.

That made me laugh!!

Also, if the goofy seating arrangement is for safety, what are those tables doing right at the end of the court where they are most likely to be in the way of a falling forehead?

They can have as many classes as they want if they would just have a tournament of champions at the end. Let Austin or DeLaSalle play Apple Valley and whomever. But of course that would detract from the previous 4 tournaments. All the hard core fans would just wait to see the final-final.

A 2 class tournament would be good. DeLaSalle can certainly compete with anybody. The best in AAA can play with the AAAA teams. And AA and A could mix. Teams like Southwest Christian (now there's a factory) can compete with Litchfield, Maranatha can compete with Minnehaha, etc.

Tyus Jones is on 45 TV right now as we speak!

Ch 45 for directv, and ch 439 for Comcast.

My first chance to ever see Tyus play.....and...Wow! NBA

Same. Watching him a bit on TV. He is REALLY good. His teammates, killing his assist total. He is incredible though.

Tyus and AV on to the state champ game.

Thanks for the heads up GameDay.

AV beat EP...Apple Valley and Tyus now go to State Championship game.

I saw Tyus play in the EYBL last spring in Eagan. The cast included #1 player in the 2013 class, Jabari Parker as well as a host of 4 and 5 star players. Tyus was the best IMO. Incredible vision, court savvy, quickness and basketball IQ.

Watching Woodward and Hooker play it is obvious either is light years beyond Mav yet neither gets an offer. On the over hand Edina's Reggie Lynch is Olowokandi JR making cartoon like mistakes.
