Gophers Women's Hockey 2024-25 Season

Big Gopher win over the #2 Buckeyes, 3-1. Scoreless first two periods. Gophers broke it open with three goals in the first half of the third period. They pressured the Buckeyes most of the game. Buckeyes score in the last two minutes with an extra attacker. Goal by former Gopher Emily Zumwinkle. Go Gophers. Get a sweep..

Memo to Gopher Women's hockey team. You have had three bad losses. It is in your head. Shake it off. Remember to work on improving and playing as a team. The best team does not always win the conference tournament or national championship. The team that gets Hot at the right time wins the tournaments. Great teams can have poor games. You want to be ready to take advantage.

UMN's ridiculous woke agenda and lack of transparency to Dinkytown safety issues hurting MN recruiting on the women's side, too?

It is embarrassing how far they have fallen. You are the premier program and should never lose to the inferior skunk program. It is sad.

It is disappointing that they lost so badly to Wisconsin after playing them so closely in the WCHA tournament. They get careless on defense because they focus so heavily on scoring. They made some mental mistakes under the pressure. They would rather win 6-5 than 1-0 or 2-1. I don't think the season was a total bust. They finished strongly and made the Final Four, which is an accomplishment given that they only have one "super" star, although they have a lot of very good players. It is also an accomplishment in that they had to play a freshman goalie almost every game. The Gophers need to find some blue chippers in the portal and have some other players step up their games. Go Gophers.

Goaltending and defense have really dropped off. Haven't had a true goalie since Leveille.

Frustrating finish to the season. Not with the folks who want Frost gone for a few reasons.

First, as annoyed as I am that Wisconsin seems to be on another level than us this year, Wisconsin seems to be on another level than everyone in the country. We are neck and neck with OSU behind them (OSU edged us by two points in the standings, then we beat them in the conference semis).

Second, you don't move off of a coach a year he has you in the frozen four. I don't think any team in the country's expectations should be so high that being two wins from a Natty is considered a fireball offense.

Third, and i know others disagree with me on this from the end of the Lucia era, I think winning multiple Natty's should basically get you a job for life. Unless you fall off real far, id rather trust a coach who has shown they can get Minnesota to the promised land, then trust that an unknown and hope they can get you there. There is a limit to the leash id give Frost, but we'd have to be talking about regularly struggling to make the tournament for me to be ready to fire him.

I don't follow hockey very closely. But 37-1-2 sounds like rarefied air. Is that one of the greatest NCAA seasons on record?

Minnesota is not neck and neck with Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 15-7-2 against the Gophers in the last 24 meetings. They're going to be close in the standings because they all get to beat up on the rest of the league.

Since Minnesota's last title.....Wisconsin has seven Frozen Fours, Ohio State has six and Minnesota has four.

Since Minnesota's last title....Wisconsin has been in six title games. Ohio State has been in four straight and Minnesota has been just once.

Since Minnesota's last title....Wisconsin has four titles. Ohio State has two.

There are like 4 schools who invest even the slightest bit of money or interest into women's hockey.

Seeing as how all of Frost's titles came with Muzerall on staff (2011-2016), and he's been kinda mediocre by Minnesota standards otherwise...makes you wonder.

What did you all think of the end-of-regulation situation in the title game yesterday? They said that Ohio State's player closed her hand around the puck. They showed the replay plenty of times and I watched her fingers stay 100% open until they disappeared under her body. I don't know how they can change a call like that without any video evidence.

Worse was the penalty shot. It seemed clear-as-day to me that Simms stopped the forward momentum of the puck as she went from the backhand to forehand. The puck actually went backward as she shot the game-tying goal. Muzerall pointed this out to the referees who refused to review it.

Am I just focusing on nothing? That whole situation didn't sit well with me. Congrats to Simm's for being the hero at the end of regulation and in OT, and congrats to the Badgers for winning the game as it played out, but I just think that Ohio State got hosed.

The puck 100% did not keep in motion towards the goal line. The puck was an inch or so off the crease here.

A moment later the puck is further back than when she started the cross-over. You can't dispute evidence right here on the screen. Great move but not legal. If the referees are going to nit-pick the penalty then they should have put the same scrutiny on the goal attempt.
