BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Wisconsin was the pick among the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's (WCHA) head coaches to win the 2024-25 WCHA regular season title.

Wisconsin Forward Kirsten Simms Named Preseason Player of the Year; Minnesota’s Defender Chloe Primerano Picked as Preseason Rookie of the Year​

Minnesota came in 3rd.

Minnesota's Abbey Murphy, Wisconsin's Caroline Harvey, and Wisconsin's Casey O"Brien also received votes for Preseason Player of the Year.


"The preseason All-WCHA Team features Simms, Murphy, and Ohio State’s Joy Dunne at forward. Harvey, a former Olympian, and Minnesota’s Nelli Laitinen were selected on defense. Minnesota Duluth's Ève Gascon rounds out the team at goaltender."

God damn that second game against UConn was crazy. Great defending that 5 on 3 and then got caught slipping for that second UConn goal.

Home opener and I count maybe 100 people in attendance, also Wisconsin playing in a practically empty arena at BC. Sad state of women's hockey.

Tough series against OSU in Columbus. Gophers played hard and showed grit. It would have been nice to get more than one point, but a loss and a tie in Columbus is not a total downer. For some strange reason, Gopher hockey teams have trouble winning shootouts.

Hopefully we get five points when we get them at home to even up the head to head. We played a couple of solid games, but if we want to contend for a conference title, getting one out of six points is rough.

Great first half of the game. The delay of game penalty was dreadful. The officials can and should whistle a play dead when the puck isn't being moved and do a face-off. Wisconsin scored on the power play and snatched the momentum. Gophers power play defense was terrible. They have some outstanding defensive players who should be able to shutdown any team most of the time.

Rough start to the conference season. Frustrating to be two weekends in and already feeling like we are out of the race for a conference title. I know its a long season and that feels premature, but we've already lost twice as many games as OSU did in conference play all season, so even if we don't lose again, we need to hope for upsets to help us.

Gophers win 3-2 in OT. A win is a win. However, the Gophers were playing with fire. If you let a team hang around, you could get burned. MSU played great today.

Good to get a sweep of Bemidji. The first game was tight but the second game was better. It can be chancy when playing in-state rivals on their ice.

When you sweep one of your chief rivals on their own ice and they are ranked #4, you have a great team. The Gophers are improving as new players adapt to the system and their teammates. The Gophers are capable of making a big run this season.
