Gophers Women's Hockey 2024-25 Season

OCTOBER 18-19 GAMES AT MINNESOTA: Gophers-Badgers

Some titles may be on the line with these games. Minnesota Gophers achieved the greatest team in college NCAA women's hockey. Gophers coach Brad Frost coached the Gophers to a perfect 41-0 season.

Wisconsin has the team now to claim that level of greatness. Gophers just added firepower to stop the onslaught and to make a run for 2024-25 title too. The enter the season #1 and #2 in power rank.

--HockeyEast Player of the Year Natalie Mylnkova transferred to the Gophers.

--Multiple major defenders coming:

-Phenom scoring defender Chloe Primerano of Team Canada, a rookie, multiple MVP awards.

-Gracie Graham, Primerano's defenseman line partner for Team Canada, defender of the year (since MVP given to Primerano).

-NCAA defenseman scoring leader Sydney Morrow transferred to Gophers from Colgate (#3/4 power rank to start season before transfer).

-Krista Parkkonen, 2nd team All-HockeyEast transferred to Minnesota

(Current Gopher Nellie Laitinen was a top-3 finalist for WCHA defender of the year).

--Plus, several new top recruits coming in, including Ms Hockey Minnesota Ayla Puppe, hard to know how much any rookie can contribute the rookie season.

A big title is on the line.

And I think former Gopher Madeline Wethington has not signed yet.

Gophers great Amanda Kessel inducted into Gophers M Club Hall of Fame.

Her career was impacted by concussions. At several points in her career she was arguably the best in the world, including red hot her last time playing with Team USA.

Today Kessel was promoted within the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise to Manager of Minor League Operations and assistant GM.

I wonder if some women and men hockey games will be stacked back-to-back on a few dates.

On Friday, January 3 the women play Brown at 4:30 PM. That is an early start time for women's hockey

The next day Saturday, January 4 they play Penn State at 4:30. That's a later start time than usual.

The men's hockey team plays on those same dates. The times are not yet announced. Logically, the Friday game is going to start at 7 PM near the end of the women's game, maybe some overlap. Since women's tickets are so cheap, some people will first check out the women's game first before going to the men's game.

Those two games are part of the State Fair special.

The State Fair special has women's hockey tickets too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the women play Penn State. They are good and yet stuck in probably the 4th best hockey conference. Brown is an Ivy League ECAC East team we may not see again for awhile.

I may be going to four Gophers hockey games in two days.

Tickets are ridiculously cheap compared to other sports. I think they are free for students.
