Gophers QB Drake Lindsey Arrested on Underage Drinking, Fake ID Charges

he picked a really rough time to get the charges as its the absolute dead season of CFB. Now ESPN running the story

Seems pretty benign reading the ESPN story
According to a preliminary report from the Fayetteville Police Department, an officer was alerted by staff at the YeeHawg bar shortly after midnight about a possible fake identification document. Staff directed a police officer to Lindsey, 20, who admitted to having the fake identification and to consuming alcohol before arriving at the bar.

The Fayetteville, Arkansas, native was taken to the Washington County Detention Center. A copy of the fake ID was discovered in his wallet. Lindsey signed a form for a minor in possession of alcohol / attempted use of fraudulent or altered identification document. He was released about seven hours later after posting $470 bond.

Based on reviews of the place, it sure would seem like some speculating this was at least a partial grudge towards Lindsey for leaving may have some credence.
Dude rejected Arkansas (no complaints here) and then chose to use a fake ID at a bar called YeeHawg! Cmon Drake, you're smarter than that. You know there's a cadre of Ark fans who hold a huge grudge.

The fake ID is a bigger deal than the underage drinking. Neither are among the worst things college athletes have done but both are much worse than the Demry Croft door incident. It's also worse as the leader of the offense who is supposed to set an example for the team on and off the field.

I'm not expecting him to be benched for half of the season but if he doesn't sit for at least a drive or two, I think it's hard to keep selling the culture as something unique.
He does not have to sit at all. Speeding, drugs, guns DUI, assault, sexual assault - these are the more common and much more serious offenses. Any of these and I’d agree and then some. Drinking with a fake ID is a non-issue.

I too wonder if the best punishment would be to fine him. We all know Drake is a good kid that just made a poor decision. We all make mistakes. His mistake just gets a bit more publicity than all of ours. I do think Fleck will do something to make sure everyone knows that it doesn't matter who you are, there are consequences when making a poor choice. This doesn't have to be a bigger deal than it is but maybe a small fine will be a good reminder. Drake is already going to have to deal with the feeling of letting your teammates and the program down. I will guarantee he will feel bad. He'll learn from this, take full responsibility and not run from his mistake. Go Gophers!

I do think it will be handled internally regardless whether there's some kind of lip service by Fleck to the public. I think he walks the walk with the culture stuff regardless of who it is. Remember when he flaked on Drake in the first game after that very freshman throw into double coverage in the endzone?

There will be some kind of consequence and I don't think it'll be a slap on the wrist. I don't think it will be a public punishment like sitting him for a snap or a drive, though, it'll be some kind of extra community service. If anything, Fleck's gotta maintain credibility with the entire roster and I think he learned some lessons with Perich.

On one hand, I'm sure that's true, to some degree. I am a realist.

But on the other hand, what I said is 100% true. Kids will live down to whatever standards you set for them. So set them high.
What an arrogant way of thinking, you freely admit your kids probably behaved like most kids, but your somehow better because they had to hide it from you. Also PJ has dealt with player issues that people would view worse than this that just don’t hit the news or legal system. And I think he does a great job with it. I think he recruits high quality kids, and is willing to shield them within reason.

You couldn't misstate my position any worse if you were trying.

This. People seem to be assuming this is the first time PJs culture has been tested. I think it's fair to guess that with 100 kids on the roster over 10 years that there's been other issues. It's all been handled within the team concept and I expect this to be handled the same way.

There was this... Demry
It can't be a nuthin' burger if you are PJ. He's in his third year in the program and he has listened to the standards every day. He's not just a captain, a quarterback...he's been groomed to be the leader of the team, the guy who lives the standards. And now he's got the Gopher program on ESPN headlines. PJ has to be pretty disappointed. Likely thought this would never happen? Or, is it come on Drake...how the hell do you get caught buying alcohol? Either way you're disappointed.

Now, that all these guys got money...remarkable this isn't a rampant thing.

They will have to discipline Drake but this doesn't have to be a huge thing. Bad judgement on his part but misdemeanor counts....

This will disappear in the legal sense. Dad's attorney will talk to the prosecutor, who will offer something like paying a fine and do 20 hrs community service and it will never go on his record. Done deal.

More likely Busch Light Apple, or Bapple as the kids call it.

I honestly thought you were joking about Busch Light Apple. Found myself in a 7-11 in Denver just a few minutes ago. The guy in front of me brought a 12 pack of that to the counter.

Ick.

Very few kids behave better than their parents expect. So why set low expectations?

Realistically, you're the biggest influence on what your kids will think is normal. If you expect them to drink underage or commit minor crimes, they will know it and you can be 99% sure they'll do it. But if you model high standards, you can expect better results.

Some people don't like to hear it, but the biggest reason parents have low expectations for their kids is because they have low expectations for themselves, and they don't want their kids to think they're hypocrites.
So are you saying that had I been a little more ridged about underaged drinking my kids would have cured cancer instead of their law degrees?

Make him watch the entire 2025 Badgers season except the game against the Gophers.

In a vacuum, I'd agree. But there's gotta be like at least 20-30 players on the team right now thinking, "man, if I did that I'd be off the roster by now" etc. and so I think a whole bunch of eyes will be on PJ.
No. Nobody would be kicked off the team for that.

This is a great sign, bros. Let’s hope Drake had the wherewithal to not take any unnecessary hits like Baker did though.
