Gophers MBB is Bad but Future is Bright

Luck and Injuries discussion on Gopher Illustrated

Is Minnesota Unlucky?

Is our luck, injuries, or is it just the Charlie Brown fans getting what they deserve and taking the normal fans with them?? ...or is it just the team is in a deep rebuilding year (or three)?
Let's talk about unlucky. When I enrolled at Minnesota-Morris with the intention of moving on to the Minneapolis campus after two years there, football had just hired Lou Holtz, and basketball had been conference champions two years prior and had pulled in some really good recruits, including McDonalds All-American Kevin Smith. What could go wrong?!

Holtz leaving was a dagger and the way the academic scandal went down was another dagger. It is MN, if your sports heart isn't a misshapen lump of scar tissue by this point you must be young.

Johnson noted three of the players shouldering heavy minutes for the Gophers are freshmen — guard Jaden Henley and forwards Joshua Ola-Joseph and Pharrel Payne. Other Big Ten coaches have taken notice.

“Those other kids are gaining confidence. They’ve got a really good freshman class. They’ve got some size, and they’ve got some speed. They fight you on defense. You’ve got to make shots to beat them,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said Tuesday.
