Is anyone aware of local TV arrangements for the New Mexico State game? Do any exist? If not, are any in the works? The game is being produced by NMSU's AggieVision. It's not part of the BTN or ESPN packages and won't be on either. It also isn't slated for ESPN3.com at this point. In fact, it doesn't appear to cleared for broadcast in Minnesota at all. Of the likely candidates to pick up NMSU's coverage, FSN has a Twins game that night. FSN plus is a possibility. If not, who knows? Maybe 45?

While the announcers are pros, the crew and technicians will largely consist of students as the production house is connected to the school. It's likely the broadcast won't be in HD either. So if we do get a TV broadcast in these parts, be prepared for a definite NMSU slant on the broadcast and a production below ESPN/BTN standards.

It is amazing to me, that we still can't get every damn game on tv and in HD. We'll end up having to pay for a webcast or just listen on the radio. Granted back in the 80's we were lucky to have one game on tv per year (even when we were decent).

A big issue with this particular game is the fact that NMSU is independent, so it has no conference TV package to rely on for 2013 level production quality. For instance, if this was a game vs. a MAC opponent, it would likely be syndicated by ESPN+, picked up here much more easily, and have a good standard of broadcast quality even if it was an SD production.

Gopher in Iowa had a good point about somebody picking-up the game, hopefully at least. Here are most of the games starting around the same time. NBC Sports and CBS Sports maybe the best shots to pick it up if someone locally can't/won't do it, so also listed who they are aligned with.

CBS Sports Network already has other games scheduled that day at 11:00 AM, 2:30 PM, 6:00 PM, and 9:30 PM. No room for Gophers-NMSU.

NBC Sports Network has a lone game at 2:30 PM that day along with MLS at 9:00 PM. However the channel also has a significant commitment to airing Premier League soccer. This one's at least a possibility.

Another possibility is Fox College Sports. FCS carries a mix of small college games and overflow from FSN. No HD for this station and its SD feed is horrible, but if it happens, it's better than nothing.

Only 1 of those schools bolded in the above schedule are in a "BCS" conference. Look at that list of games for a moment and ponder this: Clem Haskins, assuming he has internet service, could possibly be sitting on his front porch, sipping lemonade after a hard days work on his ranch, could watch online his local 11 squad take on Murray St. while the fans of the only Division 1 football program located in the 13th largest media market in the country will have to gather around a radio to follow their team.

How the hell the University of Minnesota ever gave New Mexico State a home is beyond comprehension. I have a feeling McKinley Boston got Maturi drunk on 2 Zimas at some national athletic director conference, got a hooker who specializes in hand-jobs into Maturi's hotel room and has the pictures stored somewhere so we had to agree to play a game in Las Cruces.

Good work Norman, but you've got the wrong AD. The game being played in New Mexico was a direct result of canceling the North Carolina series.

So now just when did that hooker get into Norwood's room?

This sucks to say the least. In this day in age fans of a big ten football team should be able to see every game in HD, no matter who they are playing.

I have a bumper sticker with the acronym WIDBM - When in doubt, blame Maturi. It's a valid excuse and sometimes my wife even buys it. You should try it sometime. Yes, I blanked on the time frame for the logistics of how that game was set up. Thanks for clarifying.

Isn't that why they out "subject to change" on tickets with times?
They aren't going to change any of those other games to accommodate the Gophers at NMSU, especially when BTN has basically nothing to do with away non-conference games.

it'l be on TV don't worry. Some way, some how, they will figure out how to get the game televised. It'l more than likely be some obscure channel but Teague, Kill, the B1G and co. will make sure it happens.

I hope you're right. Problem is that a lot of the obscure channels are already committed. An alternate FSN channel or something like that might be an option, but why would they go out of their way to televise one game when they won't be putting any others on TV?

BTN and Foxsports both being owned by same company could be reason for them to help sister station.

Not judging anyone here, but we've become a bit spoiled by college football on TV.

To be judgmental, I feel the constant insults toward the AD on this thread to be disingenuous. You want a free broadcast in HD that you can watch at home or DVR with a minimal effort. More power to you.

Of course, I can afford to be flippant. I'll have no problem seeing the game. I paid my $15.

Yes, a BCS team's games should be on, and this game will. There is no way this game is not broadcast back to the TC. The U, B1G, and FSN will find a way.

OK, slap away now if it will make you feel better. I can take it.

We can't get a non-conference game on ANY kind of television, but North Dakota State gets to be on national television in one of their non-conference games?

It appears we don't have enough cable/satellite networks.

Chalk that up to the Bison winning back to back FCS Championships.

I asked @GopherFootball what the story is. Here's the rather open ended reply.

@Sports_Realist Still TBD. Home teams decide TV. We are as anxious as you.

They're not on National Television for this game. The North Dakota NBC Network is made-up of 11 NBC Stations in North Dakota. No Big Ten team could sign a deal like this because of the Big Ten Network. It looks like they might get some National coverage, but there are many weeks that FCS teams get National/BTN/Pac-12 exposure. ESPN3 is an online streaming service. If your provider doesn't offer it, you can't get it, and it's not offered to a lot of smaller providers.

Hope we get on TV outside of New Mexico at least. Personally, we are WAY out of town so we won't see it anyway. This is a direct result of the cancellation of the UNC series and the scramble to replace this year's game. The Home-and-Home aspect tells everybody how tough it really was. They got the game because for this year at least NMSU is an independent and probably because of Boston. Despite the implications in the thread Teague was lucky to find a team to play period. Finding someone to pick-up the game maybe harder still.

Maybe some of the more seasoned Gopher fans can help me out. I don't remember the Gophers hardly ever being on TV when I first started to become a fan (mid 80s). What was the TV coverage like then? I may be remembering this wrong, but I seem to recall Gopher basketball being broadcast on KMSP (way before Fox, when they were just Channel 9). Anyone else remember this? I didn't have cable and the only way to get satellite would have been one of those giant 12-foot dishes, so if games were on ESPN or MSC, I never saw them prior to 94. I remember we'd watch the Wacker show on Kare 11, but I don't remember watching many games. Anyone help me out?

That was one of the major reasons given by the people pushing Giel and the U to back the Dome. Through the 70's and into the 80's many Gopher games, a lot of games that were broadcast, were on tape delay. The thought was with TV deals on the way, that the Gophers, by playing at HHH, could play a lot of nights games and therefore get more games televised. That fell apart pretty quickly when, with Cable starting to take-off in the mid-80's, early 90's and the Networks started signing deals with a lot of Conferences. There were also local/regional packages put together then to, but yeah, if you didn't go to the games, many you couldn't see.

Conversely until the early 90's, I think, nearly any radio station that wanted to broadcast the games could. That changed when the went to a single bid system.

Now if the Gophers had been GOOD, well, who knows.

Basketball, I think was televised very often by the predecessor of FSN, the Midwest Sports Channel. Before that a lot of games were broadcast in stations around Minnesota by a syndicator.

If you look in the football media guide it will show which games were televised.

Thanks Station. Yep, the Dome opens in 1982 and all hell breaks loose in 1984. As usual, the Gophers timing and/or luck is brutal.

On June 27, 1984, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in NCAA v. Board of Regents of Univ. of Oklahoma that the NCAA's television plan violated the Sherman Antitrust Act. As a result, individual schools and athletic conferences were freed to negotiate contracts on their own behalf. The year after the Supreme Court decision, nearly 200 games were televised, compared to the previous year’s 89.[10] College football’s television ratings slumped due to market saturation, and the price of a 30 second advertisement plunged from $57,000 in 1983 to $15,000 in 1984, while the combined take from network television fell more than 60 percent.[11] Despite the monetary suffering of the universities, the additional coverage had a positive impact for fans of college football. “Everyone talks about money, but no one seems to care about the football fan. He is the one who benefited from deregulation. And he isn’t complaining,” said Chuck Neinas, the former commissioner of the Big Eight Conference.[12] Together with the growth of cable television, this ruling resulted in the explosion of broadcast options currently available.
However, in the immediate wake of the ruling, most schools still decided to jointly negotiate their television contracts through the now-defunct College Football Association.[13] The Big Ten Conference and Pacific-10 Conference were not members of the CFA, opting to negotiate their own TV deals.[13]

No offense - but today's generation of fans is spoiled. There is no constitutional right to have all of your favorite team's games on TV.

When I was growing up in the 60's, my family got 3 channels. 3. My dad and I got to watch one FB game of the week on ABC. On Sunday mornings, we got the syndicated Notre Dame Highlights show with Lindsay Nelson. ("and now, let's move further ahead in the action......). That was it for watching college FB. New Year's day was a real treat, because you got more than 1 game.

Same thing with pro FB, college hoops, and baseball. Back then, the Twins only had about a dozen games on TV. (the belief among club owners was that putting games on free TV would hurt attendance.)

Bottom line - today's fans get to enjoy more games in better quality on TV than at any point in history. Enjoy what you have, and if a rare game is not on TV, it's not the end of the freakin' world.

At least you don't have to listen to Dave Lee doing the play-by-play on radio anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those three channels were free. If my cable bill was free I wouldn't complain.
