Gopher portal visits and signings

I think the Jaron Thompson is a fine risk as he was a true freshman for Purdue so not too worried he didn’t play. BUT I wish we were able to attract a proven threat for rb, we need a second weapon at rb, not just someone who can not suck.

They still can

Last year they brought in Davis, Turner and Cardenas as RB transfers.

Turner is back per PJ, Thompson seems to fill the Cardenas role as a freshman transfer. Can still bring in another RB with experience like Davis.

Another RB

YPC is underwhelming, but 13 catches is decent. Zero fumbles. Led Tulane RBs in carries. Stylistically looks like a little smaller version of Mo. Would be a nice addition with his experience.

this just isn’t true. St Juste had 3 tackles in his Michigan career. Williamson had 5 in his Florida career.
Well, these stats don't actually prove that they were guys stuck on the bench who weren't playing.

But anyway, all of those were before this new era of NIL portal. I truly think there has been a fundamental shift in the portal.

All of these played significantly or started at the Big Ten team.

Nestor did not (special team player). Obviously was referring to guys who weren't already significant contributors.

Sure, if a Big Ten contributor thinks he's not going to get to play at that school next year, for some reason and/or is looking for a change of scenery, great
Williamson and St. Juste and Howard were not significant contributors at Florida and Michigan and LSU respectively. They played mostly special teams and were minimal contributers on D before they came here.

Very similar situations to Nestor.

OK.

These are still examples of the portal prior to NIL. So not sure how relevant they are.

Nonetheless, I was wrong.

I agree with preferring players from lower levels who were significant contributors as opposed to players who didn't play much at their previous stop.

And yeah, the college landscape is constantly changing and reshaping. To a ridiculous degree.

Ideally we’d get significant contributors from the upper levels, but I don’t see this happening despite the claims that we are not NIL challenged.

It is all relative. We are challenged compared to the big spenders but in a good enough place to retain most of our key pieces on a year to year basis.

But yeah, going to be tough to lure a productive player away from another power 4 program.
