Gopher portal visits and signings

I guess we will find out soon enough on Warren. They need to hit on the OL transfers this year. Taking a guy like Warren with little experience increases the risk of a bust. I hope he’s as good as the HS rating suggests.

The Oklahoma offer is definitely a good data point in his favor. Only allowing 3 sacks in 1200+ snaps is also impressive.

Is he a tackle or guard?
I’d rather have a top end, lower level guy perfect example being university of South Dakota FCS All American tackle Joe Cotton, who after three years transferred for his last two at Cincinnati; which had their OL end up recognized as one of the top 10 in the country this year and he was second team all big 12 both coaches and media. You know that kid can play this kid here might have all the measurable’s but falls into the I’ll believe it when I see it category.

That is a large human being who also probably benchpresses a compact pickup truck for warm ups.
I thought that too but then I looked at our roster and his size doesn't even really stand out among the O-Line on our roster. Although he is a little bit taller then most of them by an inch or 2.

I’m in that same boat and hope they still pick up that type of guy. However, if they see an opportunity to supplement HS recruiting by taking a highly ranked underclassman through the portal, that’s probably an acceptable approach.

Yeah, a mix of both approaches would be good. If they are looking for an immediate starter then an older more proven guy is probably the best bet.

That said, a player like Bennett Warren could prove to be a huge get as well if he is able to become a multi-year starter. We seem to be approaching a point where multi-year contracts or agreements might be a thing that helps keep players from transferring multiple times.

It’s going be annoying if Kene Anene from Eastridge turns into something. No gopher offer out of H.S., he signed with Kansas, entered the portal and now signed with NDSU. He hasn’t done anything yet, but will have to count as a double miss if he turns out.

Besides the upside, I wonder if part of the idea with Warren is balancing OL classes.

However, I still feel like adding a player like Warren is one of the bigger risks in taking a player through the portal. Big upside, little film.

Whereas, if they are trying to improve the team for this season, adding a player with success at a lower lever generally reduces the amount of risk.

I mean, the fact he couldn't cut it at Kansas up to now would seem to indicate it's unlikely we'll be regretting this. Chiidi Obiazor on the other hand...

Well he was only there 2 years. Chiidi is off to Indiana with the other KSU DE.

^^^^ What if he has more than 1 pick and 2 passes defended?

Wait, guys, this is huge. 6'3 220 lbs, former 5 star, Auburn fans surprised he's leaving and suspect it's because they couldn't afford him. We usually never get guys like this at the skill spots.

We must have opened up the wallet for him
Auburn has three 4 star receivers in the portal and one 5 star (who is also the #1 WR in the portal). I don’t think it’s a money issue, I just think it’s because they suck.

We likely paid handsomely for this kid tho, let’s hope we see a good TE too (and hopefully that Tulane RB)

Or maybe they don't like the trajectory of Auburn football. They've underachieved for a long time. Another new coach. ?
