Gopher portal visits and signings

Will be a redshirt sophomore
Career Stats: 30-53, 436 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Ranked 47th QB in the portal.

Decent depth piece.

NMSU DT Ezra Christensen offered, quite a few big name schools in on him. Led his team in sacks, hurrys and TFL's. This would be a very good get.

Hopefully, this is the DL they were rumored to have a visit lined up with.

Max Brosmer, Jack Gibbens were at smaller level schools. I'm not sure what your expectations are here. Portal season is not over yet and maybe Minnesota wants to develop their own talent and not rely on the portal?

Don't forget Ethan Robinson from Bucknell who was very solid in his one year here. There was also Kyler Baugh from Houston Christian who took a little time getting up to speed but was a good contributor once he did.

A bit of a team jumper. Wonder if he’ll transfer next year when he doesn’t play over Drake.
In this day and age, we can't worry about who will transfer a year from now. But if you have to, worry about Drake leaving rather than a backup QB.

6-10 legitimate starters seems very plausible to me.

Quinn Carroll, Jack Henderson, Ethan Robinson, Elijah Spencer level guys.
You can get legitimate starters, but we aren’t winning bidding wars for 6-10 guys. Henderson was not a highly fought over transfer for example.

Isn’t every transfer a bidding war nowadays? They better win more than that if they want to fill out the roster.

Yeah I mean Drake is eligible for the draft after next year. Although if he declares must have had a pretty great year.

With no spring portal we at least have him as a depth piece for a year. Unlike Pyron last year.
I doubt the lack of a spring portal will stop anyone from transferring if they want to, but have to think this kid understands that he is walking into a situation with an established returning starter so gotta think he isn't coming in thinking he will be the starter in 2026 if Drake is healthy.

I’m considering bidding wars to be battles between multiple equal or higher level schools. I don’t think you run into that with every transfer.

If you literally can’t join another team for the year it will stop most.

True....but I am skeptical that anything would actually stop a player from transferring with immediate eligibility outside of the upcoming transfer portal window if they decided to pursue it.

Edit - To be clear though, I don't think that is a concern in this case because the QB coming in knows full well what the current QB situation here is and if he is looking for a spot where he can be a sure fire starter in 2026 he would not have committed here.

On the subject of the portal, I wonder how many schools were in on Chambliss and how much Ole Miss had to pay him to come aboard. Granted don't follow this stuff that closely, but was he highly sought?
