Gopher Hockey Recruiting

PJ Fleck was the WR coach at Rutgers when Carson Wentz was a senior in high school in 2011. I would hope no GH poster is blaming PJ Fleck for "missing" on Carson Wentz.
Fair enough. Jerry Kill "missed" then. You get my point.

Berchild could end up the highest pick Minnesotan forward ever. What a massive massive failure in recruiting.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him lead DU to a title like we saw Boeser lead UND to a title after blowing that recruiting battle.

Wake up, Bob. Time to get Mason Moe and Landon Hafele committed.

That’s not good. Absolute cheap shot by the Irish player. Nothing like a 24 year old running a 17 year old and going knee on knee.

Of course that happens to Bob's only hope for a first round pick across three recruiting classes.

Zajic to uw. Nice work with the 08s, Bob.

5* 08 Update:
5* 99 - Hurlbert - UM
5* 98.5 - Berchild - DU
5* 98.25 - Valentini - UM
5* 97.75 - Nyman - UM
5* 97.25 - Trottier - ND
5* 97 - Lawrence - BU
5* 96.75 - Stuart - DU
5* 96.5 - Hextall - MSU
5* 95.75 - Beuker - N/A
5* 95.25 - Bumgarner - UND
5* 95.5 - Malhotra - BU
5* 93.75 - Zajic - uw
5* 93.5 - Garcia - ND
5* 91.75 - Mutryn - BC
5* 91.5 - Croskery - BC

"2005-born goaltender Melvin Strahl has committed to Michigan State! The 6’3 170 lbs Swedish native plays for the Youngstown Phantoms and has put up a 2.52 GAA along with a .910 SV% in 5 games this season.

He was a 5th round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2023."

And here we are with a completely empty goalie pipeline with one goalie leaving after this season and two others that are practice goalies.

Guy on GPL is reporting Mason Moe is a Gopher commit. I'm not on most social media so can't verify.

It's real. That's one piece and a good one with what's left. Now get one more forward (like Hafele or maybe the big Edina kid), one D-man (who knows which), and one solid NHL-type prospect goalie.

Goalie being the priority, IMO, even if Bob tries to actively hit the portal for once for a goalie for next year.

For next season forwards:
Lose Michel, Nevers, Huglen, Snuggerud, and one of Wood or Moore (-5)

Add 6 to get to standard 15 forwards
  1. Townsend
  2. J. Moore
  3. Mooney (hopefully, barring injury setback or last minute decision to stay east coast)
  4. Kvasnicka (a little young but should be okay)
  5. Reid (5th liner, 2 full years of USHL)
  6. Transfer Portal, ideally incoming Junior as that's a small class

Agree with all of this and especially the adding another upperclassman. To me we should be adding 1-2 of those every year with the relaxed portal rules and being a destination school

I don’t know that there will be a first round pick in the portal every year….
They don’t have to be 1st rounders to be as impactful as Wood, though to be fair there were multiple first rounders in the portal this year

Wood is raw but also a risk to leave after one year. A guy like Pohlkamp could be at DU for three years and absolutely dominant by the end. So ya, the beauty of the portal is you can get those proven guys that will tear up college hockey even if they're not first rounders.

Agreed 100%. Zero we can’t/shouldn’t do this to some extent every year

UND apparently playing a little chess at a checkers game by getting a 5 star 2009 birth year recruit out of Canada. Must have already accelerated his grade.

It's my understanding that those that sign an NHL ELC will not be eligible to play NCAA. With that, the Gracyn Sawchyn hope is out.

Alright, Bob. You might not have a first rounder in your 2024 recruiting class, 2025 recruiting class, and 2026 recruiting class. Go ahead and prove us wrong and bring in Gavin McKenna next season over BC or Michigan.

Jack Parsons to Clarkson from CHL. Let's see what scraps goalie Motzko ends up with next year even with more to choose from now.

You are always so positive about the program. I wonder why you have been banned by the good Gopher message board...

What was the last Gopher goalie to play more than 1 NHL game? It's been a program problem not just a Motzko one.

Literally only because they had no other option. Who played more than 2?
You are the master of changing the question if you don't like the answer. You asked who played more than 1 game. Lafontaine played 2. That is a fact if you like it or not...

I said 1 because I recalled him playing one instead of two. Basically my question is who was the last legitimate NHL goalie from the U.
