Given the two teams' recent history of crazy, close games, I'd say this is way off. However, Vegas is hardly ever way off. I'd take the Gophers to cover, but what the hell do I know?

I'd take Northwestern and the points.

Northwestern has had a tough two games. Nothing there that screams they are going to beat us by 13 if we can run the ball. Our QB is in a position to have a good game against their D. The pressure is on them and I do think they are a tad overrated.

I don't bet. If I did, I'd be living under the bridge. Tough game to call. Northwestern isn't particularly physical, so we may be able to play a grind it out game against them, but our pass defense is going to have to play better than it has. Really tough game to call. One of those games that I could see us winning if we played well and kept their offense off the field. On the other hand, if the Wildcats turn it into a horse race, they could win by 30.

Tough two games against on great team and one good team, we are classes below any of the three. At home coming out of two losses I see the vastly superior Fitzgerald with a team ready to pounce.

I'd actually take the Gophers here. I think this game will be within 7-10 points.

-In retrospect, Northwestern was very overrated, and may be no better than Penn State/Indiana. Their 14 point win over Cal is certainly less impressive now that we can see how terrible Cal is.

-They beat Western Michigan by 21, but Western Michigan is the worst FBS team, losing to Iowa by 56 and Buffalo by 33.

-They only beat Maine by 14. I think we can top Maine, at least.

-Hung around with Ohio State but were absolutely humiliated by Wisconsin.

Seriously, this might be our best chance for a win coming off of a bye week, and I'm decidedly on the side of the fence that we probably won't win any.

Go back and check the tape and other threads...Stan has been saying this for SEVERAL weeks. NW has been exposed. As somebody, I think Ogee, said yesterday Wisconsin -10 was the easiest money Vegas has offered up all year. I have gone against NW in the pick per day the last two weeks and could see that happening again next week.

With what the Gophers want to establish as an identity, this is a good matchup for them. NW had the big emotional game against tOSU and the trouncing yesterday. I think we can pound on them early like Wisco, however we have nobody in the backfield close to Gordon or White and obviously Wisco has the better Oline. Also, there is the noted history of close games in this matchup.

This feels like another close game and definitely one Minnesota can win.

There are so many people who could learn a lot from you. Betting on football games is for fools. That because the odds are stacked in the house's favor. But people think they are smarter than the other betters. Yea, right! They must be GopherHole experts too!

Depends on the injury situation with Colter and Marc. Both dinged up their ankles. Marc was worse. Once again we're somebody's Homecoming game. If Colter and Marc don't play, I think we give them a good game if we get healthy by game time.

Well the gophers will score about 14 points. So if we hold them under 30 we could cover.

Colter is the key. If he's healthy, we're in trouble. After two bad weeks, Cats will be up for homecoming. Might be a case of one team winning one half, but losing the game. NW is a good team, well coached.

Northwestern's homecoming was against Ohio State.

I was thinking the same thing.

Regarding the Gophers vs Northwestern, I think it will come down to the Gophers mindset. If our Gophers come into this game with a nothing to lose, have fun and " I want this, I've got this" mindset, I like our chances. Forget about all that it's our best, only chance to win a BigTen game talk. Desire and self belief will go a long ways.

Our defense has a chance to keep it close. Overall, the defense is quicker to the ball/ closes faster than they did last year.

I don't mean to nitpick, Honkers but I don't really think those are "Vegas" betting lines. Off-shore probably.

Vegas doesn't like throwing out lines when there is uncertainty at the QB position. As of now, I can't find a line set by any of the casinos. This line may not come out until later in the week, but I could be completely wrong.

Uhh.. I'll be happy if we cover that spread. Seriously.

Ogosh, where they are from, I do not know. I got them from ESPN.com.

In fact, on www.scoresandodds.com the game line is listed as OFF.

They we're very close to beating Ohio St. And definately belonged on the field with them. Unlike Us. They are pissed and have 2 losses in a row. We're in deep trouble.

Take northwestern give the points and tell the teller to only stop when the paper runs out!

they will be very ready to right their ship. hope we can conotinue to make our baby steps towards improvment

We have 2 losses in a row, so we are pissed. NU is in deep trouble.

Their best game was a loss. No matter how you spin it, Northwestern isn't having a great year so far.

Actually sports betting is one of the only forms of gambling you can actually win at. You control your own destiny as opposed to random cards, dice, etc. The house edge of 4.5% is a grind intended to beat you long term, so many sports betters, even average ones are able to win for entire seasons at a time. It's the lack of discipline/money management that ultimately does most sports betters in.

Vegas seems to fall asleep on NCAA football. Probably due to the number of games. You could have made a boat load on Clemson alone up until yesterday. Just betting the over on SEC games would have been lucrative this year. I would say Vegas lost heavily yesterday but made it up and more today due to high betting on the NFL.

Yep, the oddsmaker tries to set the line so there are equal amounts bet on each outcome. But the odds are adjusted so the payout will be less than 100%. In my experience, people go out of their way to tell me when they win but rarely say anything when they lose. I saw a guy lose a good business because he was a compulsive gambler. Over the long run the odds are set against you unless you have some special ability to see the future or you get people to shave points or throw the game. I don't have any special powers and I'm not a gangster, so I don't bet. I've heard people say that gambling is a tax on the statistically impaired, but I do see many smart people gamble.

I would love to see the Gophers beat Northwestern, but they will have to score more than 13 points to win. They will have to run and pass to have a chance. I'm hoping for a miracle.

Well, here's my thinking. Iowa had a fairly good B1G defense and held us to 7. Michigan has a worse defense and held us to 13. I believe that NW has an even worse defense, so I'll predict like 19 points for Minnesota. Unfortunately, I don't see our beleaguered secondary and pitiful pass rush holding NW to anything less than 28, and I believe it could be much worse. So yeah, 13 seems about right...it should entice action on both sides, which is ultimately the goal.

I'll be at the game Saturday, so I'm obviously hoping our favorite team makes a good showing...guess we'll see.

This thread is all sorts of comedy. This is two 0-2 BT teams who have had the spread covered on them both games. Some of you act like Northwestern is a Top 10 team in the country. I have news for you...they are complete frauds, exposed by Bucky on Saturday. Are they better than Minnesota? Probably. Are they 13 points better? I do not think so.

And all of this talk about how they lost 2 in a row and will be fired up? What a joke. Minnesota has also lost 2 in a row AND is coming off of a bye? What? Does Minnesota not want to win the game too? Also, whether it is Homecoming or not, I have news for you...Homecoming is for alumni and students. The players do not give two s@#*s whether the game is Homecoming. It adds no extra motivation.

I believe injuries should play in the Gophers favor. I believe NW lost their center (backup had 3 holding calls against the Badgers), their big DT, both QBs are banged up, and Vendric Mark (sp?) is also nursing a sprained ankle. The Gophers have a chance in this one.

Thanks; that info will make the drive to Ryan Field a lot more pleasant. ;)
