GAME #26: Gophers (16-9, 5-7) @ Northwestern (12-13, 5-7) [BTN, 5:00PM]

You realize MN didn't have Dre Hollins for the game at home and we lost by a missed layup? Crawford disappears all the time.[/QUOT. You are wrong on Crawford. He has some inconsistency, but not 2 points inconsistency. He was clutch in the Wisco win amongst others. The fact is we split with NU; teams lose games many ways but it does not negate the loss. Like everyone else on this board i get very frustrated with this team. Name a B1G fan not frustrated with their team this year. Nebraska beats Mich St at the Breslin Center today and NU beats Wisco decisively at the at Kohl Center. The Gophers need to step it up and figure things out.

Mo was moving his feet pretty well on defense all night. He may have had lapses, but he was doing well overall. I can't help but see it as a commentary on how little faith Pitino has in Elliott at this moment in time.

heh I don't know man, you and I tend to agree on a good share of things here, but the day I see Mo move his feet quickly, box out and hold onto his box outs, and quickly get to spots on help defense while recognizing his position on the court (including where the man he left is), is when I'll agree with you on Mo playing good D. The good thing is he has another entire season to continue to work on his offensive game, which has really been a great improvement - and to finally learn how to play post defense.

I opine that if you could mix EE's defense, tenacity, rebounding, and passing with Mo's newfound offensive interior footwork and ability to finish, you'd have a superstar center. As is, I don't envy Pitino's choices on who to have on the court at a given time, as it can't be easy.

I missed the first portion of the 2nd half, but he did decent in the first half. He is clearly better than Oto so I'm fine with him getting a lot of minutes.

Oto . . . perhaps it's the Latvian in him, 'cause to me he's . . . . . a riddle, inside a mystery, wrapped in an enigma.

We only made 56% of our free throws on the road and still won? I'll take it.

Crawford had an off game. On the flip side, Cobb was on fire. Not having Dre for the first game was a major blow. You don't lose one of your best players and not feel the effects.

There are no gimmies in the Big Ten. We've won a few close games and lost a few close games. There have been very few games in which we've looked completely outmatched.

Any road win in the B1G is tough,

I'm going to disagree with that one. Lots say it, but it's false. Nothing special about winning on the road in the Big Ten as compared to any other conference. In fact, this season it happens more in the Big Ten than most other conferences. Won't stop many people from making this claim though (which they do every year... it's just not accurate).

So do most pundits think we need to get to 8 wins to be "comfortable"?

Only 8 wins would make for a very uncomfortable Selection Sunday. Plenty of work still to do - huge game vs. the Illini.

I think that charge call came about 20 seconds after I posted to get EE in the game so Mo didn't have to play D! Being wrong in such a good way is very pleasant.

Ha! My reaction at that point was something along the lines of, "%^$##*&, Mo, hold on to the #$@%%^&$#& ball or get the %$^%$#@#@ out of there!!" Our cat snuck out of the room at that point.

That's just contrarian bunk. Any time you win a road game in college basketball, it's an accomplishment.

Go Gophers!!

Fortunately the Gophers made their free throws! lol

We also had more than twice as many turnovers as Northwestern and still won. I guess that means turnovers don't matter. Pretty soon we're going to run out of things that actually contribute to wins and losses.

I think we can all agree that road wins (regardless of conf.) are a good thing and it beats the hell out of losing. Road wins are harder to come by than home wins. A team that wins tough road games consistently is almost always a pretty good team. We have a ways to go...but it felt good to win tonight.

Yes, that's what I think...and probably many here at the old GH.

It's not just the turnovers....it's the totally stupid/careless ones. I've never seen anything like it.

Yes you have. It's called the last four years of Gopher basketball. Until this year, they have been a turnover machine. Last night was miserable, but I'm pleased that this is the exception rather than the rule this year.

I remember looking at the stats board in the first Cats game and seeing very few turnovers in the middle of the second half, and being shocked that we were not ahead. Don't tell Warrior or KenPom, but sometimes stats don't tell the whole story. In the short term, I 'll take 26 turnovers and a win over six turnovers and a loss.

Yep. Considering how much trouble the Gophers have had in Evanston over the years, take the road win and move on.

But that's not sustainable......

:) Meanwhile, freethrow percentages don't matter....

I haven't looked at the stats. What was the rebound margin for this game? (Sorry, I didn't get to watch the game due to family commitments.) Generally the two stats that are most telling for a victory/loss are turnovers and rebounding. Every once in awhile there is an anomaly game, but most often these two stats tell you who won or lost.

ESPN shows the Gophers had a slight rebounding advantage, 36-30
