Former Gophers want a voice with the new HC hire

Read their website content and then append to your post. They are, with all due respect, out of line and need MapQuest to find the campus. I especially like the parts about how the University does not stay connected....they are true kings of embellishments. I know M guys who are livid about these people and their claims of poor poor pitiful me.

So they aren't speaking for every player that has put on the pads for the U. I'm shocked! (note extreme sarcasm).

There's one contribution these clowns can make

aside from just STFU'ing and writing out a check. I'm all in favor of one representative of this organization assisting the search committee. At some point they'll need someone to run out and get donuts, or pick up some chinese food. I just hope whomever it is that writes down the order is more literate than the hack who wrote the copy for that lame-ass website. Otherwise Maturi will be getting Moo Goo Gai Pan instead of Kung Pao Chicken.

I hope badger joel maturi...

got his moo goo'd brewball panned and properly fired less than a year after extending him. maturi is such a kung pao'd dead duck a.d. when it comes to running the football program...too long wasted, a fan will pick up the tab.

I agree with them, we need to consult with them for advice. But not just them, we need to consult all of the former players. In my estimation at 20 school's per season that's about 2,000 former players. If they are dead (God rest their souls) we consult their oldest living child.

It's just a little bigger committee for "I'm working on it", Maturi. Another bad decision will be due to bad committee input, of course!

Maybe if any of these former players had won a Rose Bowl or have been worth half a damn, then some of them would have been coaching candidates on their own.

Otherwise, have a Coke, have a smile and shut the eff up. (c) Richard Pryor.

Another poster mentioned that they could work back channels if they were really interested and that is exactly what they should have done. The Pioneer Press/Star Tribune aren't the ones hiring the coach. If you want to get heard, make inroads with the administration. Schedule a meeting with Maturi or something, like adults. If you want to b--ch and moan, then go to the press and let loose.

Getting on a soap box in the local fish wrapper isn't going to win the heart of Maturi or the Gophers administration.

I found this article to be very disturbing. Reports in the media have stated time and again that Pres Bruinincks will have final approval over the hire, and that many others will have input into the decision. So just maybe if things don't turn out well there is more than one man to blame.

I bleed maroon and gold as much as anyone, including former players. As a matter of fact I remember cheering for Doug Kingsriter and watching him play at Memorial Stadium. Joel has more accomplishments during his tenure than failures. GPAs are up across the board in the athletic dept. The department is in the black and he hired Tubby Smith. He was also instrumental in getting the stadium built. So he made one bad hire. It happens sometimes. Anyone who assumes that because of the Brewster hire he is incapable of making a great hire this time around irritates me to no end.

Why do I get the feeling that if this turns out to be a great hire Maturi won't get any credit but if the hire bombs everyone will want to run him out of town? Everyone needs to relax and let things play out. The talent pool is much better this time around.
