FootballScoop: Hoke, Calhoun, Edsall and Chryst tell U they are NOT interested in job

So....the Crazy Joe criteria seems to be:

(1) unexpected coach to leave his current program
(2) 2nd or 3rd fiddle in the state
(3) has young kids

Am I missing one of his hints?

Mike Gundy?

I thought the first hint was the list of five names that Crazy Joe gave us. Gundy isn't on it. Neither is Neuheisel.

Explain the hate.

- Coached for 22 years before getting his first HC job (sound like anyone else we know?)

- Is 48 years old and his only HC experience is at a lame school in a pathetic conference

- His sole coaching experience north of the Mason-Dixon line was two years at Air Force in 1997-1998

- Offensive coach; I'd rather have a defensive specialist

- Will excite no one and sell no tickets

- Not even remotely approximating a Tubby Smith hire

- Not mentioned for any other HC jobs (from what I've read - grant that I could've missed one)

- Is almost 50 years old and wears his hair long and curly with gel

- Kinda seems like a smarmy, pugnacious dick

I could be wrong (I have been before), but DO NOT WANT.

Larry Fedora is the name and would not surprise me at all. Was a name I know was mentioned early on here and no one picked up on it.

A decent hire if true. So. Miss has been a good program under him.

They are 8-4 this year. They got killed in the opener to South Carolina. Possible SEC Champ.

Their other three losses are by a total of 8 points. Would he be getting more interest if they were 11-1 right now? Defense looks like a concern to me. Gave up an average of 29 points a game.

Spare me. If it's Trestman or Chryst I'm taking at least a year off from Gopher football. If it's Fedora I'll just be extremely unimpressed. I'd rather have Horton then any of these 3.

The one year Horton has been here he's impressed you more than Paul Chryst? I'd take Chryst in a heartbeat, the hatred people have for him on this board is very confusing to me. He would be an exceptional hire. Horton, as much as I like him, deserves no consideration for this job.

means we've already hired someone and waiting to announce after that coach's internal meetings with team, etc

Not sure that Fedora or Riley would be my #1 choice, but i'd take Riley over Fedora.

+1 Does one Wisky fan feel bad that Alvarez and Beleima are both former Hawkeyes? Just win. Wisconsin is a machine right now.

Riley still has a regular season game left. So, if it's him he wouldn't be announced until after that, right?

down south? Urban may be looking to get away from the pressure cooker that's ruining his health

We've gone on and on about how this time, we're getting a proven head coach and we're not looking at coordinators. And, yet Maturi is to be allowed to fix the mess he made by hiring another Badger who also happens to be his close personal friend?

Regardless of Chryst's actual merits that would simply be unacceptable to me. Do you not see how many others would feel the same? Even if it was Alvarez, it would give me pause, but I could probably choke it back and live with it. Chryst? No way. I don't doubt he's an exceptional OC, but his complete lack of HC experience, his status as a Badger and the nepotism that would reek from the AD if he is hired disqualify him as a candidate.

Yeah, from what I year it will be a week or two before they announce the hire. So, this would fit.

A week or two before they announce the hire? Come on, man. This board won't last if that's the case.

I know, half of the people here are on suicide watch and the other half are crapping themselves in excitement.:D

It's a lot like my days working in the mental ward.

It's just a matter of logistics. When to coach's season is over they can start to interview and negotiate, it won't happen overnight. I'd be surprised if a coach that is currently employed is highered sooner than 10 days from today, but it could happen.

Or they could just hire a TE coach from the NFL.

This kind of reminds me of Notre Dame's head coaching search back in 2005, when it seemed about like they couldn't give the job away, and especially for freaking Notre Dame. You'd think they'd have coaches beating down their doors, but not so much, at least back then. I remember them being repeatedly spurned by their top targets, most notably Urban Meyer, who'd been on Notre Dame's staff but decided that he'd rather go to Florida. They were also rejected by Steve Mariucci and Bobby Petrino, and there were several other high profile guys whom I can't remember who publicly said 'No' to Notre before they finally landed Charlie Weiss, and that didn't work out so well for them either.

At the time I was wondering if that was some sort of payback for the way they'd given Tyrone Willingham the shaft, and coaches saw that and were like "Ya know what? If this is how you treat your coaches, then forget you!".

I think I probably speak for others as well, but I'm kind of getting a little sick of your posts. Put up or shut up.

I have a feeling all of these guys with Seinfeld monikers are the same person. There's about 3 or 4 of them that popped up about the same time on this board.

Yeah! It's like he watched All the President's Men over the weekend and decided he was Deep Throat.

Minnesota hiring a guy who just got canned (Shannon) .... not the way to build excitement.

Nice metaphor, but the more likely scenario is that you don't know anything and refuse to provide specifics so that you can't be proven wrong later.

If you know who it is, PM me. I swear on my mother's grave that I won't tell a soul.
