What's this "delay" you're talking about? They were supposedly on Hoiberg yesterday. If true, they started talking seriously with Flip today. No matter how fast they're moving, there wouldn't be a an announcement today, if for no other reason that they're both in Indianapolis right now. Teague has said zip this entire week. Why would he start leaking news now?

For that purpose, the optimal time was yesterday. Doing it now would bury it locally. And frankly, Flip's not a big enough name to be a big deal nationally. It would get a mention or two in passing, and might get the 'Tubby was better' attached to it anyway.

I know the feeling you're having. I am the same way around NSD, I don't let myself get too excited about the recruits until it's official. Flip is going to be the coach.

Neither Teague nor Flip are in Minnesota right now. I expect to hear it announced this weekend and a press conference on Monday.

They were never on Hoiberg, it was never a possibility. Doogie got used and abused by Dead Eye Fred's agent and Fred got pay increase.

I don't think the NCAA wants teams to announce coaches during the actual game days. It takes attention away from the tourney. Probably not a big deal with Flip, but if it would have been Shaka or Stevens it would get a ton of attention.
 



Let me apologize in advance for being a Wisconsinite and a relatively new Gopher fan, but what kind of in-game coach is Flip? I've seen tons of posts about Flip energizing the program, having experience at multiple levels, etc., but I haven't seen a lot about what kind of offense he likes to run or if he's a defensive specialist...that kind of thing.

I guess I'm essentially asking if we'd be able the inbound the ball and actually create high-quality looks on offense if Flip is hired. It's pretty well-documented that those were huge pet peeves about Tubby.

Point remains: if things got serious between Teague and Flip today, then it's extremely early to say any announcement is being delayed.

I think things were already in place before today. I have no doubt that Teague told Flip, I'm going to look at Shaka and Stevens (give it a whirl) and they've been working on this the entire time. Teague and Flip are both in Indy right now, it's getting done.
 

The NCAA doesn't want announcements of new coaches to over shadow any tournament games.

Teague is learning a LOT about big time college sports isn't he? Someday he might become a really good AD.

Also if Flip is in the hunt - he probably knows his 'leverage' to get paid really well increases by the hour. Probably burns NT up...

Yeah, I mean, he learned this time that you need to hire a new coach within 8-15 minutes of firing the old coach or else. . .it's obvious we are swinging and missing.

Or he already knows it and is way ahead of the game. All of these leaks I doubt are coming from NT and if they are they are intentional.

I believe this guy knows how to work the media and make things happen. Lets just enjoy it all.

Who have we been turned down by? If you believe that we were really after Freddy I have a piece of land to sell you on the moon. Freddy's agents came out the winners by using social media to its finest. I honestly believe that Norwood knew before he even fired Tubby that Shaka was not leaving VCU. If Flip is actually hired than it's obvious it was agreed upon before the season was even over. The Shaka, Stevens, Freddy stuff was just some smoke signals put out there so Tubby was not disrespected (make it look like this wasn't agreed upon before the firing). Norwood needs money kicked into the program, there is no other realistic coach out there to get that done more than Flip. Also doesn't hurt that he had success in the NBA and bleeds M&G. Get him a couple nice assistants that know the recruiting game and you'd have a nice situation.

I think he thought it might be easier than it is turning out to be. I mean this is a Big Ten school - who doesn't want to coach in the B1G for big money?

They are waiting on someone (Donovan), it's probably a shot in the dark, but I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't take it.

I thought UCLA would have issues - only because it is such a hot house there - really intense. When the last person who remembers who Wooden was dies it will be a good job again.

Agreed. Twitter will be very annoying with stupid April Fools tweets about the Gophers jokes. Do people still think April Fools lines like that are funny?

Agreed. As you'd said before. The only thing we KNOW is that Tubby was fired. The rest is pure speculation from the media and message board posters. No solid info anywhere.
