You are correct. These suggestions are similar to the last hire that led up to Ben. Posters were all Coach k and every other best in class coach. I am still hoping the team gets enough wins to get back on course.

$$ talks. If we're willing to spend it, the # of guys in the Power 5 increase. In 2021 we were not willing to do it. That doesn't mean we won't this time.

Also, the world is not the same as 2021. There is a really a Power 2 and we're in it. I agree we're not getting anyone you listed there, I simply disagree with the categorical "we suck and could never get a coach from a major conference" that some have on here.

It's just so interesting that Utah State has been easier to succeed at than Utah. He had the Aggies on the cusp of the top 10, and the Utes have had their moments under Smith but not nearly what he did in Logan. The game has changed a lot in the last few years and perhaps in ways that goes away from Smith's strengths, but man. Plenty of wealth in SLC, a beautiful city and campus to recruit to, a history of prior success including a championship game appearance...I'm not sure I get it.

I do think of Smith as an excellent coach. His last USU team out-rebounded every one of their opponents. But is he a program builder in the contemporary game?

I will make a $1,000 bet with anyone. And give them 100K if the Gophers come away with a coach even in the stratosphere of Kelvin Sampson, TJO or Greg McDermott. Its an actual zero percent chance. They've also lost to every team with a pulse on their schedule. Doesn't exactly bold well for Big 12 play. Lost to Mississippi State, lost to Iowa in Sioux Falls and lost to St. marys at home.

No, saying the Gophers cannot afford high end coaches is not my opinion it is a fact. They cant afford or have the name to draw them. It takes a real moron(and here you are) to try and argue otherwise but the FACTS are there. They factually landed on Ben Johnson an assistant from a program in their worst stretch in decades because that is all they could get.

There is not a single person in college basketball that would say the gophers have the resources to poach coaches like TJO and Sampson. Its an embarrassment to the fan base to have ignorant bozos like you continuing to act like it is some possibility.

What's next you gonna say Duke being a better basketball team than the Gophers is simply opinion as well.

You're correct that we will never be a good program. But it's not that we can't. It's because our administration wants a bad program.

We might even pay for a Tubby type big hire to make it look good. But we will make sure we put him out to pasture. Tubby started out red-hot...but after all the sabotaging, he was just cashing checks.

If Sean Miller agrees to go out to pasture...to simply take it easy and cash checks...only then would our administration hire him.

I don't think they want to have to battle the coach again like with Tubby.

The only power 5 schools I mentioned were Clemson, Colorado, West Virginia and Utah. Hardly beacons of history or huge $$. It's also simply a fact that in the new revenue sharing era, almost every team in the B1G will have more $$ than every team in the Big East.

The only one bringing up Sampson is you. And even those listing Otz acknowledge that it's very unlikely.

Finally, if 6 different people are telling you you're being an arrogant angry jerk, perhaps you're being an arrogant angry jerk.

I see this a lot and am just asking a question here - is this actually true? Yes, the B10 has more resources, but also spends well over half the pie on football. Big East? Smaller pie, but can spend virtually all of it on hoops.

This is not true for B12 or ACC
