What if they are playing Georgia? I bet they get "convinced" to have it US Bank for weather/safety/ticket gate reasons. Remember Ohio St got the Viking heaters.

The logical choice in my opinion would be to play at the Zygi Dome regardless of the opponent. Also would depend on how the Gophers offense is constructed.

I realize I may be in the minority in this forum. Take the dough.

I would assume Indiana was on the phone call from the Original Post and would be amongst the group that has indicated they would Host on campus.

The Hoosiers stadium is under 53,000 and Lucas Oil is near 70,000.

Things change though when hypothetical becomes reality.

I presume the Buckeyes got use of the Viking's heaters due to Rick Spielman's connection to Ohio State?

The Bucks probably had the financial means to bring their own anyway. Just saved them some transportation costs, Columbus > Minneapolis.

Depends on what Lucas Oil stadium would cost to use for this event too though.
 

To be fair, its not like the horrid cold of January would be an advantage for our team who also never plays in it. As a fan, I'd never choose to watch a game in the cold over a dome. But that's me. Doesn't change the point our team would be no more use to it then Georgia...
 

The turnaround for knowing these games is December 8th selection and Dec 20/21 games. Colts have a home game on the 22nd at 1pm local time. They could play early game on the 21st or Friday the 20th and be fine.

I think it will be a year to year thing based on logistics, who actually has a game, and $$ potential. This year our last home game is November 23rd. Would the U keep the place open to host a potential game 4 weeks later? Would be a great decision to have to make.

Some of these stadiums are ancient and would need to keep pipes warm etc. for a whole month.

This is an important point. And many have probably never had to do so. It's not like SDSU hosting a FCS Semifinal in late December - that stadium is new and built for that. Is the Big House or Camp Randall even able to be used in single digit weather if that happened?

Which begs the question, what if there isn't an alternative?

Same here. The whole "The Vikings should still play outside" nonsense was always stupid to me. There's a reason Packers and Bills fans are perpetually drunk.

I'm a Seahawks fan, and when the Vikings were playing at TCF, I went to the regular season game (Seattle destroyed them - t'was glorious). That was the year they played in the playoffs when Blair Walsh missed the kick (also glorious). People asked if I was going to the playoff game. Hell no! It was -6 with a -25 windchill. Why would I want to sit out in that?

I was at that game. It was cold, but fun. The thing about weather is that you need to be into the game. You can't just sit back and watch. Everyone was up, standing and jumping around, cheering, high fiving... until our hearts were broke... again.

Devil's advocate is that the Vikings advanced to the Super Bowl while playing outside at Metropolitan Stadium on 4 occasions.

Zero NFC Championships since moving indoors.

I am a diehard Viking fan but I have often thought in the Favre/Rodgers era the Packers advance to 2-3 more Super Bowls if they were playing in a dome. Notably Favre's last game vs. the Giants, Rodgers vs. the Giants, the 49ers game a couple years ago, and possibly the Brady/Buccaneers game. 3 of those games had very cold temperatures and they were beat by teams that were built to run the ball vs. the Favre/Rodgers era teams.

The one that Rodgers did win, they did it as a Wild Card in 2010. All 3 playoff games were on the road, away from Lambeau.

Honestly I would be interested to know how many teams they have called to see if they can host if they say all “viable contenders” have said they can?

How many teams have they narrowed down 5-8 to with 40% of the season remaining. Anyone with 3 losses realistically could be 8th at the end of the year. Not likely, but possible.


You’re making a lot of assumptions to assume a 3 loss team couldn’t be ranked 8th

Currently 64 teams with 3 or fewer losses.
If they didn’t call all 64 they’re showing their bias

I wouldn’t mind it at us bank stadium either to get more fans in assuming we could sell more tickets and make it loud. Wonder if it would be similar allotment to opposing fans as regular season games.

The Vikings Dallas NFL championship Hail Mary game at the Met is the last game I have attended outside after October 31. Promissed myself never again and have stuck with it, 46 years and counting.
