Final "Field of 68 Projection" (March 16, 1:38 a.m.) UPDATED: 100% Correct

SS -- do you think the selection committee got it right?

Good question, one I get asked quite a bit. I would have to say yes.

That said, when doing the projection I'm trying to think like the committee with an end goal of matching their final selections. This year, for example, I would have rather seen Green Bay receive an at-large bid over NC State, but just had a gut feeling the selection committee would value NC State's 3 wins away from home vs. NCAA qualifiers (Tennessee, Pitt, Syracuse). That's something NC State had that plain & simply none of the other bubble teams (the ones that got left out) could come close to matching.

I went over my bracket again, this time looking extra close to NC State...

...and I still have them out.

I'll try again next year.

Congrats Selection Sunday, you sit on your couch and listen to who the experts believe are going to be in the tourney then post it on here....not impressed

Respectfully, if you only knew how false that statement is.

Wasn't he 1 of 3 people who picked NC State to get in? Seems like the "experts" should spend more time listening to SS.

I fully believe the only reason he picked nc state is that he knew all the experts were not picking them, knowing that he would be one of the few who picked them, which would make him look like a basketball expert.

Wow, bitter. Did you lose a bet or something?

Yeah, I personally think the Gophers had a better case, and I feel like I could argue it five or six different ways and "win" the argument.

But when your performance leaves you fighting for one of the last couple spots in, you've really got nothing to gripe about. Personal biases, conference biases, politics, and personal impressions (such as our crappy showing on nat'l tv versus Wisconsin) are going to come into play if you leave yourself open to it.

The fact that the committee didn't even cite the Gophers as one of the last 4 out (though it's possible chair wasn't being forthright), and gave Louisville a 4 seed, gives me some pause.

Stop being an a$$! Many of us have been here for years and know the work SS does and look forward to it every year. He provides it as a service to us and our entertainment not for any adulation. He does it all year, not just the last two weeks in February and early March. Unlike Lunardi, he has no pony in the race where he needs to prop up games on ESPN. He even left his favorite bubble team off the list.

If you're trolling, you've succeeded.

Did you lose your job today?

No I am just saying that he saw that Jerry and Joe both picked SMU, so he just decided to be different and go with NC State

NC State

SS does not need my help, but I can co-sign that this was not the reason he took NC St nor is he simply regurgitating what Lunardi, Palm et al are predicting. I've been watching him do this for 20 years, before the term Bracketology was even invented or at least popular.
