ESPN Gameday going to NDSU next week

I thought I would share this with fellow Gopher fans. I am both a Bison and a Gopher fan and I do feel for my fellow Gopher fans that GameDay went to Fargo before Minnesota so here is a photo. I waited 15 minutes outside before I was able to get a passable picture for the Golden Gopher's logo on the GameDay set.

Now, as for the Bison moving up to A-I from A-II, there are many factors to consider. First the Bison are spending 3 Million a year on their team and would need to spend another 5 million on top of that if they moved up to A-I. Bowl games cost teams money to be in and while it would be nice to have that exposure, I don't know if the rewards outweight the money spent for the Bison. Another point is that the NCAA rules state that teams wanting to move up have to have a minimum of 15,000 fans attend every game for two years. I don't think the Bison pull in that kind of crowd consistently.

By moving up to A-I, NDSU would need to raise tuition to cover those costs and that is a hot-button issue for many people in the area. Finally, a conference would need to invite NDSU to move up and no-one is expressing interest in having the Bison in their conference yet.

In any case, I hope you enjoy the pictures and I look forward to talking with other Gopher Fans later.

The only Gopher-related sign I see is a "Mr. Irrelevant" sign with a Gopher logo. Ugh.

I can't believe that gameday is this close and there is no gopher stuff. pathetic.

Their obsession over Minnesota is hilarious.

I'm here with a few friends, it's kinda cold. Played golf at a nice course called Edgewood. Some other Minnesota fans started chanting espn 3 and a few drunk bison fans got the boot for trying to start a fight.

But I will say Fargo has done a nice job with this event

Edgewood is a nice track. It's where I hit my "prayer from the woodchip pile", a shot that will forever live in family lore. It was good for $5 off my angry brother-in- law and sparked a heated debate outside the clubhouse that forced an apprehensive employee to tell us to "please take your argument off our property."

And yet, this thread in on page 5 approaching 8,000 views.

Exactly.

I grew up in the RRV, my old man was a H.S. coach who sent a couple kids to NDSU (DII at the time). My dad took me to a lot of NDSU and Gopher games, so I'm that middle of the road fan who can appreciate NDSU's success and cheer for them (except when they play the Gophers - I did grow up on the right side of the Red River after all).

The Bison program is a great example of success breeding success. Many people were worried about their move to DI-AA because they expected to be more of a middle-of-the-road team.

I'd honestly love to hear the expanded story if you would be interested in sharing it!

I thought this threat was a joke last week, so I didn't click on it.

But now I turn on ESPN and....holy balls.

Played Edgewood a few time in my msu days. Long time ago. How is it now? Got a friend going up next week to be inducted in moorhead state hall of fame. Trying to get him to play there.

It was nice as long as u stayed on the fairway. They had some rain recently and on the back 9 was pretty wet and soft. I think 95% of the trees in North Dakota are on Edgewood, so about 14 trees;). For how nice the course was/is it was priced really cheap I thought. I think it was $30.00 for 18 and a cart so if a guy has a chance to play it, I would recommend it

Anybody here pissed that GameDay specifically mentioned that they went to ND before they went to MN? Apparently not, not a word.

Ummm . . . to clarify:

1) A-II, A-I . . . huh? It's DI FBS (formerly DI-A) and DI FCS (formerly DI-AA); This is a football only designation, as all other sports are simply DI.
2) You don't raise tuition for sports. Some schools increase the student's activity fees to raise add'l funds for sports, but not tuition.
3) NDSU averages over 18,000, so no they don't have a probelm with a 15,000 fan level. A new stadium would help a lot, because NDSU could likely sell out a 22k to 25k stadium if they had one. Student tickets (4000) sold out in 0:25 on-line last week, with a load of students not getting tickets. That was for DE State, a game that everyone knew would be a blowout.
4) The move to FBS would cost NDSU an estimated 3-3.5 million, with an increase of 44 scholarships, 22 on the women's side.

Student tickets are free.

Student tickets are free.

We have an athletic fee that definitely covers student ticket costs and then some. It's something like $400 per semester. By "sold" he meant "claimed" because students have to claim a ticket at 8 am on the Monday before a game. All 4000 tickets were claimed by 8:25am.

But wow, it's interesting seeing so much hate coming from Gopher fans. I have NEVER heard anyone else say that the people from Fargo are the worst. Never has that been said before. Must be some rough times in the Twin Cities...

You tried to say alot without saying anything. Go back to NDCA.

The only thing we hate are the cocky Bison fans that come here and tell us how their program would crush us every year. You beat us twice during one of the worst eras of gopher football. I don't care if the Bison fans are proud of their team. They should be. Just don't waste your time telling us. We don't care.

I have many freinds that live in Fargo that are not Bison fans. One reason they are not Bison fans is because they cannot stand the arrogance of that fanbase. They tell me all the time how annoying the fanbase is. They actually do think they deserve to be in the Big Ten or Big 12, and that they would dominate those leagues. Those "Bring On Bama" signs are not a joke to them. They actually think they can beat them. It is laughable, and very annoying. That being said, I love the actual city of Fargo. I got there often. So I am not a Fargo hater.

i used to think bison fans were just joking about thinking they would dominate the big ten or beat ranked teams, but ndsu fans actually believe they are a top 25 team (Overall) because they won the fcs title and beat a bunch of bad fbs teams. then i made it to fargo this weekend, i heard multiple times at a few establishments that ndsu would beat the gophers by 3-4 tds, they would give ohio st all they can handle, and alabama wouldnt beat them by more than a td, while others think ndsu would run all over the crimson tide. eventually we were tired of the insanity and went to moorhead to some hole in the wall called micks...other than the bison nut jobs, fargo was a fun town

That is exactly right

ESPN actually showed a graphic that said how much Alabama would be favored over NDSU if they played. It was something like 34 points.

Way too low. 'Bama could name the score. NDSU is a well coached little team that can jump up and surprise an unsuspecting 'real' team, but Alabama would humble them real quick.

Yes they said that NDSU would be 34 point dogs to AL, but they also said that NDSU would be favored over Syr, Ark, MN, and several other schools. You're trynig to tell me that MN could complete with AL?
