Tubby mentioned in his post game interview that EE didn't play because "he has something going on." When asked if he was OK...he answered yes. I am wondering if it is academics? Anyone have any insight or actual fact other than my pure guess?

I doubt it is academics, pretty sure he's a Carlson student. I'm sure he needs to start showing more in practice and Tubby just wanted to send him a message.

Rumor has it he got pulled over for speeding. When the cop told him he was clocked going 55 in a 40. He threw a temper tantrum, insisted it wasn't him, and was eventually arrested.

That's just what I heard, though. It kind of seems out of character to me. I mean he is nothing but class on the court.

Really? A lot of posters on here need to settle down about his on court demeanor. I'd take his emotion over Ralph's any day.

As long as he doesn't go on a lengthy Twitter rant, everything should work out.

My dislike for Elliot is well documented here. However, my above post was meant to be a joke more than anything.

Eliason said he wasn't hurt but Tubby called it a "coaching decision" why his former starting center didn't play tonight. #Gophers

Amelia Rayno ‏@AmeliaRayno
Tubby: "coach's decision" RE not playing Eliason. Wouldn't elaborate other than saying wanted to make sure he understood some things.

Amelia Rayno ‏@AmeliaRayno
Eliason didn't want to talk to the media, understandably, seemed shaken by the benching. Guy is always very hard on himself. #Gophers

Smith said he will continue to evaluate the starting lineup going into the MSU game. Wouldn't commit to the lineup w/ Mbakwe. #Gophers

Lack of hands, turnovers, and stupid fouls.....does that work for ya?

Somehow I missed the well documented dislike. What is there not to like about a hustle, shot blocking, rebounding, dive on the floor 7' center?

Well clearly Tubby isn't too happy with him, so I'm not the only one.

He probably had one of his episodes at practice.

I wouldn't make a big deal of it. Just a guess - I'm thinking it had to do with him taking his playing time for granted, and Tubby is reasserting that people need to continuously get better and work hard because people are working behind him (Mo, Ingram). Maybe he took a practice or two off??

People can poke fun at EE natural athletic ability, but our success in the B1G has a lot to do with him. Mo is not in shape, he is not the answer until he loses even more weight and works on explosion. He got blocked by people 3 inches shorter and 75 pounds lighter tonight. Mo doesn't have enough explosion yet around the rim and cannot guard people outside from the basket. EE gives us a more mobile backup to Trevor, and a better defensive player than Mo. I hope EE takes this well and works his a** off.

Explain why exactly you don't like a Soph 7'er who can run the court, is an excellent passer, rebounds, blocks shots, dives on the floor for loose balls & always gives 100%? What is it? His offensive game isn't completely polished? He gets in foul trouble? Big guys take longer to develop. Has always been that way, will always be that way. Elliot will be a VERY good player over the next 2.5 seasons.

Agreed. Sometimes a cigar, is just a cigar.

No.

This Mo thing is unfortunate. I'm not going to look it up, but didn't Tubby say he was 324lbs and now down to 297? That is still huge, forget the goal of 290, this kid needs to get down to 280ish if he wants a chance at being dominate.

I'm wondering whether Elliott said something negative or made a face of some sort when told he wasn't going to start. I can see Tubby taking disciplinary action for something like that, as it detracts from the "team first" attitude. My son and I always go courtside after the game to high-five the players, and Goose looked very unhappy and depressed - normally he is all smiles and full of energy.

On another note, Wally was grinning ear-to-ear going through the line. He clearly enjoyed his first two NCAA field goals.

No.

10 lbs is not the difference for Mo Walker to be dominant. If Mo had the intensity of EE, he might have a chance to be serviceable.

Everyone has opinions, which is what makes the board great, my question - what defines "VERY good player"? When I think of Very good player I think of Sam Jacobson, Rickert, Bauer, etc...not a role player. Just wondering? To me guys like John Thomas, Holman, and the older Coleman were good, not very good players.

Thomas was a first round draft pick in the NBA and was an inside enforcer on one of our best teams ever. I would say he was a very good player.

No.

Mo needs to get to 280 or less just to be competitve. He has zero hops in his current condition.

No doubt he has put in a lot of work to get to where he is after his injury. But Mo has mucho work ahead if his goal is to be a decent BIG center.

I need to make sure I hire you if I'm selling a house. You are extremely good at upselling. Have you worked retail? I'll bet you could sell those crappy warranties and credit cards with the best of them.

I don’t really care to explore any of the possible situations of what EE could have done to warrant Tubby’s response. At about half time of the Lafayette game this (somewhat prophetic) post from the good doctor came to mind:

That is exactly what Tubby has been looking for in Trevor's confidence and leadership. Now, it truly is time for Trevor to join RW Jr on the floor for more and more minutes. Just watch, Gopher Fans, Tubby has been testing the patience of his TEAM, and us, the fans, that Tubby knows he has a damn good team, and now it is his responsibility to put it all together. And he will. Will he now try starting Trevor against Lafayette in place of EE just to see how EE reacts? Lots of things to think about, sports fans.

GO #13GOPHERS!!!

Whether or not there is a behavior issue that needs addressing (maybe as simple as tuning his focus), I just hope that EE is motivated to respond in a positive way instead of the “how the hell do you think that I did anything wrong” attitude displayed whenever he’s called for a foul. I have a feeling that he’ll be garnishing praise in March just like he did last year. This team is soooo deep. Granted, this occurred against an inferior opponent, but it’s nice for Tubby to have the depth to make a move like this to help EE (and the team) realize that there are others who are capable of stepping in and being successful at any time. I’m guessing the Ellenson redshirt burning had something to do with Oto’s focus yesterday as well.

* Not sure how to define "VERY good player" exactly, but I think Elliot will score 10+ & grab 8+ boards a night as an upperclassman & perhaps be All-B1G during his career. Once Rodney, Trevor & Ingram leave there's no one else in front of him. I think he'll be our top big the next two years & just on minutes alone his numbers should go way up. Factor in added strength, experience and development and I think he'll be "VERY good".

* John Thomas is the same category as Rick Holman, the MCC transfer?

* EE will not be a "role player" as an Upperclassman. Elliot will be a full time starter the next two years & players get better.

What specific skills in Elliot's game do you see that makes you think he'll be very good? When I read "very good" I think 1st round NBA draft pick. Perhaps that's not what you meant. I'd rather that you explain your evaluation than for me to guess at what you mean.
