Drake Lindsey WILL BE BACK with the Gophers!!!!!!!

We're going into year three of this experiment, which I learned about for the first time when PJ was brought up during the Vikings game in Seattle. It helps explain some of what we've seen in the past two years. I'm curious if it doesn't change if we see similar results in year 3?

Was this change common knowledge? I tend not to listen to Fleck's press conferences, and don't recall seeing it on this board. Is this new news?
I was not aware, either. But it is does explain some of the clunkiness we've seen.

Disagree strongly. He had a very good year for a freshman (redshirt). Plenty of schools would like to have him knowing he's got 2 or 3 years left. One of them to our immediate East.
Maybe Wisconsin will end up with the 3rd highest QB recruit we’ve ever had in Jackson Kollock 4 star, who hit the portal

Roman Voss is coming next year and is projected to be a tight end. I know he's a freshman and that's hard, but if he's like Koi Perich we might have something there for Drake.

I wonder if those kid's NIL ever get's adjusted ....

Raiola got big money, roughly around Drake's level this year and he hit the portal, I assume got "fired".
I'd fire an idiot who lives his life mimicking another player also. That Raiola kid is a clown. Kind of like that stupid alter ego JJ McCarthy had that KOC told him to ditch. Be yourself and just play. It's a game at the end of the day.

Cupito was better than AAK

Personally I thought AAK was better, but they were pretty close. Cupito might have been a better passer but AAK was way more mobile. I'd take Weber over any of them.
I'm always a little triggered by "well he's mobile" when it comes to QBs. Ultra mobile QBs are only great because ... they somehow didn't do their primary job good enough. That first part always seems to catch up to them.

I don't think it's that. The mobility aspect can allow a QB to escape a sack that a more "statue-esque" QB would probably just take. Or designed runs to keep the defense "honest".

AK rolling out ... only to miss a touch pass I think kinda makes my point ;)

Ultimately it comes down to seeing the open guy and making the throw, and if you can do that well enough there's a good chance you weren't running in the first place, if you are running, good chance you're not great at seeing the play / hitting those throws.

I think running QBs maybe would be more valuable if they were involved in called runs more often but generally coaches don't want to do that, for good reason.

I think the argument was AAK, not AK.

In good natured debate (as opposed to typical Gopherhole arguing) I would counter that Athan would have missed that pass anyway, even from the pocket. ;)

Ultimately it comes down to seeing the open guy and making the throw,

I get what you're saying, and we're probably just talking over each other lol, but the threat of designed runs (ala Lamar Jackson, or Johnny Football while in college) does lead to a receiver possibly being a little more open if the defense has to spy the QB.

The Lamar Jackson NFL example was rare, but he had wheels in college too. Deshaun Watson, Johnny Football, Tua/Hurts/Kyler Murray, etc. Game planning for these guys over a typical pocket passer is tougher, I think.

Looking over this among other things it caught my eye that AK was statistically good in 2025 (out in Piscataway) compared to his subpar performance here. Surrounding cast, coordinator, or development.

Lindsey is starting from a higher base with better intangibles and (I believe) will be a top tier QB by the time he’s done. We’ll see.
